Is there a command line utility to get the size and position of a window on macOS? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:46 AM PDT I've been searching for hours for the answer, and have struck out. You people are my best hope. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Improve magic mouse pointer tracking/accuracy Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:08 AM PDT I've just switch (back) to a Magic Mouse—a black one to match my setup—and have found its accuracy to be... well, not quite as precise as the ~$20.00 Logitech mouse for which I just replaced it. I remember there being some utility to improve the mouse pointer/tracking accuracy making it almost more—dare I say it—Windows-esque. Has anyone experienced something similar, or will I just simply need to readjust? [link] [comments]
Help! Catalina update is making my Mac crash! Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:42 PM PDT Hey there, I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. A few months ago, I installed a brand new SSD Samsung, and upgraded to 8GB of RAM. Since then, everything has been peachy. Fast speeds, ran smoothly.. A few days ago, I got a notification from the App Store to upgrade to Catalina 10.16.4, so I did! (Before that, I was running 10.12.6 Sierra - I was excited to upgrade so that I could finally download Logic Pro & other apps that require 10.13+) Once Catalina installed, everything was great! Until 2 days later, I started experiencing EXTREMELY slow speeds. Anything I clicked on gave me the spinning color wheel until it eventually restarted back at the username/password screen, and sometimes would restart entirely. I ended up erasing my disc and reinstalling MacOS via Command R / Recovery. It automatically put Catalina back on, and the same thing happened. Fast speeds and back to normal for 2 days, then boom - slow & restarts. What did I do wrong here? Why is Apple saying my Mac can support Catalina but then crashes? Can I downgrade to something else that won't give me these issues? Any good videos on what it takes to do that? At this point, I'd love to just go back to Sierra 10.12.6.. Ugh. Thanks for the help. - Tanner [link] [comments]
SOLUTION - Youtube 4k video stutter and colour shift in full screen (Mac) Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:47 PM PDT So these are two issues that've plagued a lot of Mac users for a while now (myself included), and I think i might've found a workaround for this so i thought i'd share. Background: The problem is that basically if you try to play Youtube videos in full screen on Chrome on Macs, the following will occur:
Tested working Solutions:
Specs: Macbook 12" (2017), 1.2HHz Dual-Core Core m3, 8GB RAM - connected in clamshell mode to a Samsung U28E590 4K display. macOS Catalina 10.15.4. System UI scaled to 2560 x 1440. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:32 AM PDT I'm still fed up on whether I should install all my apps from brew or not. If I was given the option to install from a dmg/app/pkg or brew, which do I pick? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:15 PM PDT My wife used and loved Picasa. Unfortunately with the upgrade to Catalina it stopped working as it 32 bit. Any recommendation for an app that does. 1. Photo album organization. 2. Photo enhancement and correction. She doesn't like the stock Photos app as all photos are inside a DB and cannot be manipulated as regular files. Thanks [link] [comments]

Is there any way to install newer software on El Capitan? Posted: 27 Apr 2020 12:43 AM PDT I had versions working before of the same stuff working on different macs but now when I install them it says my Mac is no longer supported Stupid things like excel [link] [comments]
Problem with using magic keyboard on windows side of bootcamped macbook pro Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:46 PM PDT This is really frustrating. I restart the comp and connect the keyboard as a new Bluetooth unit, it works if i constantly type on it. If i stop typing for 7 seconds (i timed it), the connection stops. Any ideas? There is nothing online at all about this. Please help!!! SOLVED: Went to https://magicutilities.net/magic-keyboard/download and downloaded driver. Works great! I think the problem had something to do with a power saving setting. [link] [comments]
Microsoft Office 2008 no longer works on Catalina - can I downgrade Posted: 26 Apr 2020 07:52 AM PDT I upgraded my OS to Catalina. Microsoft Office 2008 (the primary software I use on my Mac) no longer works. Can I downgrade my OS. Any fixes? [link] [comments]
Probably a dumb question from new Mac user Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:26 PM PDT Okay this my be a dumb question but I just got My first Mac this week. I know Mac is more secure then windows and has a lot of built in security features but should I install a third party antivirus/malware software for an added layer of security? My ISP offers Norton free to customers so I was wondering if I should install that or not. I'm leading toward no do to Mac being so secure but wanted more advice on the matter. Especially since it's free and wouldn't be paying for it. Is it worth it? Or are Macs built it security features enough? [link] [comments]
Automatic switch to darkmode - catalina - not working Posted: 26 Apr 2020 12:43 PM PDT Hello, Since Catalina I was using automatic switch to darkmode after sunset. But it seems like since I installed bootcamp (few weeks back) this feature stopped working. Do you have any idea how to fix it? When I choose a light mode and then switch to automatic then it switch to dark mode. But otherwise no ... its pretty irritating. [link] [comments]

How often do you guys reset you install? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:46 PM PDT I'm a relatively new Mac user with a 2015 MBP I bought 2 years ago and use very heavily for work as a software engineer. I've spent the vast majority of my life on Windows (from 3.1 to Win 10) and Linux sporadically. Since Win98 days, I would use imaging software to reinstall Windows about once a year or two simply because the registry would get bloated and Windows performs far better when it's in more pristine shape. I think i started with High Sierra on my Mac, and have now been on Mojave for a while as I am not interested in Catalina as it seems to be very buggy based on reports. I've installed a lot of programs and then uninstalled, and there is definitely junk hanging around Lib folder and also with launchd settings. Do you guys ever blow away your machine and start from scratch with a reinstall of macOS? [link] [comments]
Trying to help the person who bought my iMac Posted: 26 Apr 2020 07:30 PM PDT I would really appreciate any help on this, as I want to do all I can to help the person who bought my iMac desktop today. I followed instructions on the below website to erase all of the data, but then stopped before reinstalling Mac OS because it was asking me for an Apple ID. https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-factory-reset-a-mac The buyer just messaged me saying it's stuck on installing os, giving a message saying it can't install. She sent me the below picture. https://imgur.com/gallery/XAv7hP2 Would anyone happen to know how to fix this? More information: I believe the computer is from around 2010. [link] [comments]
2015 MPB always running hot, fans very fast Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:07 PM PDT My 15" mid-2015 MBP (dual graphics, id:MacBookPro11,5) is ALWAYS running hot. smcFanControl (which I use only to monitor, never to adjust fan speeds) shows fans hovering at around 6.2k rpm and temperature around 65c. It gets this way after about 5 mins from cold boot. Nothing but Chrome is open right nowwith 5 tabs and i'm looking at 64degC and 6151rpm. This started a while ago, I took it a few months ago to get diagnosed but was told that the hardware is in great condition and shows no issues. I'm concerned. What can it be? Can't seem to find anyone with my model whose fans are running so fast. Thanks in advance for any advice. [link] [comments]

Recent folders is always empty Posted: 26 Apr 2020 05:49 PM PDT Not sure why, but in the Go menu, it does not show any recent folders. Any idea how I can show the recent folders I have had opened? I am not referring the the "Recents" folder that shows all the pictures and documentes I have recently opened but the actual folders that I have recently opened. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Fresh Catalina install: how to backup Music so album artwork isn't lost? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:49 AM PDT I would like to install a fresh copy of Catalina on my MacBook Pro 2017 TB. I tried doing this a month ago by backing up my music folder + .musiclibrary file, but on the fresh install, ALL my artwork was missing (only way to bring it back was by going to Get Info and moving the artwork around for EVERY album). It was so frustrating I ended up restoring from Time Machine. I read that the artwork might be stored somewhere in ~Library. Is this true? Is there anything else I need to backup? Was anyone able to bring back their music + artwork successfully on a fresh install? Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments]
Any good iTunes / Music.app replacement options? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:37 AM PDT Been using iTunes for about 17 years, but it's time to retire. I've had too many problems with Music.app and Retroactive just isn't solving some issues I have. Has anyone found a good iTunes replacement that is more like how iTunes used to be several releases ago when it just handled your music and audiobooks very well and without the additional fluff / cruft? Monitoring Internet Bandwith on MacOS Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:16 AM PDT Hello, Some times i see that the internet bandwidth is much consumed by my Mac why i'm not using anything. I doubt about some apps doing updates. But i want to be sure of that. Is there any app that can monitor the internet usage of all processes on my mac and give daily statistics and monthly ... per process. [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:02 AM PDT Hey folks, Just wondering if any of you out there can help - I deleted a big chunk of files from my MacBook, to make space inadvertantly including a bitcoin folder. I've got a hunch there might be a small amount of coin in the folder from about 7 years ago... I've spent the whole.weekend trying to get it back - I had no joy with any of the free software, either they don't find anything, or are beyond my technical expertise. I have managed to find them with the free version of Easeus but I can't preview the wallet + don't want to spend the $95 as A, I can't afford it and B, I think it will jinx me and the wallet will be empty! I had read that the free version allowed you up to 2 gig restoration for free, but I guess they changed that policy. Does anyone know how I can restore the files using the Easeus license, or can anyone recommend a genuinely free program that will actually work? Any advice would be hugely appreciated....
