Ease & Speed for Multitasking: New Mbook Air vs an iPad Pro? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:20 PM PDT I have a macbook air 2011 that is starting to freeze up occasionally and the display has gone pretty bad. I mostly surf with at least 15 tabs open, download torrents (maybe much harder on ipad?), watch video, listen to youtube music, with some video conferencing. I'm thinking of getting the 13 inch ipadpro (only 6 gb of ram?) with the new keyboard or the i3 macbook air with upgraded 16gb of ram. Any thoughts on which is faster, easier to quickly switch between these things I'm doing? Is the new keyboard really as tactile as a macbook air keyboard? I love my 2011 keyboard and much much much prefer surfing the web on it vs my iphone 6s+ [link] [comments]
Compatible mice for Macbook Pro? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 08:59 PM PDT I'm looking for some suggestions for bluetooth enabled mice with at least 5,000+ DPI and some weight to them. I want a full size mouse as well. I ordered the MX Anywhere 2s but it is smaller than I expected and I find myself lifting it trying to move it around. The main reason for high DPI is that I'm used to it and find it better for gaming, but I don't need anything crazy like 16,000. I'm not interested in RGB but I don't mind some lights if its a good mouse. Also, it seems like the mouse acceleration in macOS is a bit choppy. Not sure if thats the mouse I have or an issue in general. [link] [comments]
MacBook 13” running High Sierra stopped booting up after recent update Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:58 PM PDT Hi all. I bought a refurbished MacBook from a seller on eBay last week. It was sold to me upgraded with 8GB ram, 500GB HD, and is running High Sierra 10.13 OS. Everything was functioning smoothly. Then in the process of creating a new user I accidentally deleted the admin user and was left without an admin. So I followed the instructions here and was able to successfully create an admin user. Everything still functioned properly at that point. Had even rebooted a few times with no issue . Then the OS finished running the latest update. Which was apparently no small update since it presented a pop up highlighting all of the new features. I powered down and went to bed. This morning I tried to power on and it won't get past the boot screen. The bar gets about halfway before the whole thing shuts off. I've tried several different recommendations online, such as resetting the SMC. Nothing changes. Any clue as to what might be the issue? [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:15 PM PDT I have an old Macbook from 2015 that has served me very well, but the battery lasts for 15 minutes off charger, the screen is cracked some keys need to be replaced and the trackpad has lost calibration. I've used every bit of life out of this thing and I'm happy with how it did, considering I'm on it 6-7 hours every day. I'm leaning towards getting the new 16" Pro, because for whatever reason everyone advises against the 13" Pro. I've done some research but i'm admittedly not as tech savvy as I should be. The new laptop would be used for some picture and video editting, general gaming and well, be a glorified Reddit machine. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Are the 16" Macbooks as good as everyone says? [link] [comments]

Is this keyboard behavior normal for the MBP 16'' or did I receive a bad unit? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:41 PM PDT All keys don't register a keypress if pushed down softly from the side of the key even though the key is making an audible key press. Is this normal for the new MBP 16''? [link] [comments]

2019 MacBook Air crashed and webcam light came on. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 04:13 PM PDT I was using chrome on my laptop when it suddenly crashed to a blue screen & the green camera light switched on. Immediately I shut down the laptop and, after a few minutes, loaded it back up with no problems. Strange things have increasingly been happening to it recently involving it freezing & the Bluetooth settings opening themselves. All these strange occurrences have coincided with me having a Netflix tab open in the background in safari (not playing, just paused). I'm not sure if it's got anything to do with it as I very often have Netflix open, but I'm wondering if it could be relevant. Any advice is greatly appreciated! I'm currently downloading total av antivirus. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:34 PM PDT The Music app on my Macbook keeps randomly opening. I'm not sure if I am inadvertently hitting a key combination or this is just Apple promoting their service. Anybody else have this issue? [link] [comments]
Getting ready to transition from Mid-2010 to...? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:09 PM PDT Hey all, So my Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro is probably about ready to give up the ghost. It had a couple of nasty falls over the past ten years that a) killed an internal speaker, b) damaged the optical drive which I took out and replaced with a 500GB hard drive to hold music, and c) affected the battery charging connection such that I have to wiggle it and pray I get it in the right spot so that charging actually happens. It's also such that the fan seems to run almost constantly. I am also plagued with the continued crash of the GPU. I'm doing something and then it crashes. These started last year but have gotten to the point where they happen several times a day. Here are my specs: Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Processor 8GB DDR Nvidia GeForce GT 330M 512 MB Intel HD Graphics 288 MB So, it's probably time to look for a replacement. I think something with 1GB storage would be something to keep in mind, but I don't know if I need all the power that the Pro has. My needs are fairly simple...regular everyday work (correspondence, planning, writing, browsing, downloading) but I do like to game through Steam mostly. Having been a PC gamer for about 25 years before I got the MBP, this took a lot of adjusting. I would probably certainly run Parallels or Bootcamp to access more of my favourite games. I also do things in GarageBand and want to expand it, and photoediting, more. I've looked at the 13" and 16" MBPs. I keep hearing of a 14" release because I'd love to have a 16" but I am not sure I can afford it. I would also try to get this in through the education discount through Apple Canada. I've thought of trying to get a mid-decade off of Kijiji just as a stopgap until more improved models come out, but when I look at this for the 16" model:
I think that looks great, until I see my bill of $3250CDN, and then an additional $420 tax. So, given my needs, given what I've been using for the past decade, what are some recommendations? Thanks for your help!!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:30 AM PDT I need to buy a new MacBook ASAP because I'm working from home during this quarantine and mine just broke. It looks like Best Buy has the $999 option and the $1399 option, but if you look at what that $1399 has, its more expensive for a lower storage MacBook Air sold on the Apple website?? Best Buy: $1399, 8th gen i5 processor, 256 GB storage, 8 gb memory Apple: $1299, 10th gen i5 processor, 512 GB storage, 8 GB memory I really need to buy a laptop and a two week wait is not ideal at all, but am I missing something with this?? Wirelessly extend macbook to monitor Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:48 PM PDT Hey, I'm looking for a solution to wirelessly extend my MacBook's display to a computer monitor. I don't really need the interface of an AppleTV(or the price tag), and I don't want to wire the laptop in directly. I've heard of Anycast/EZcast etc, but I'm not sure about their quality. Does anyone have any experience with these/ any cost-effective recommendations? [link] [comments]

Mackbook not working. What should I do? - Apple Canada Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:22 AM PDT Trackpad is smashed and now computer wont turn on. Can't take it anywhere to fix it because of COVID-19. Anything I can possible do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 05:35 AM PDT My girlfriend tried to turn on her MacBook this morning and at first it turned on, the keys all lit up and I could hear the fan but the display didn't come on. We tried restarting it but now the keys won't turn on, the fan won't come on and the display's backlight comes on ever so slightly (so I'm guessing the screen isn't busted) but doesn't display anything. The only signs of life are the screen, the fact that it gets hot when plugged in (not sure if that's a sign of anything, just thought I'd mention) and that it makes a noise when it gets plugged in ( a little chime). Anyone had this issue before? Normally we would take it somewhere to get it looked at but since everything's on lockdown that's not an option. All her uni work is on it and we don't have another mac in the house so I don't know if we'd be able to recover stuff from the hard drive [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro trackpad suddenly stops clicking physically Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:05 AM PDT Hey everyone. I have the following machine. MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) MacOS Catalina Version 10.15.1 My problem is that the trackpad has stopped physically clicking.. Now I know that the trackpad isn't actually supposed to click and there's a vibration that simulates the clicking but yeah it's not working any more. Sometimes it randomly starts working for a little bit thought. It is very annoying as I am used to clicking and would really appreciate if someone has any advice on this front! [link] [comments]
