Apple Mail causing significant power usage and drain Posted: 15 Apr 2020 05:16 AM PDT Hey guys/gals, So for the last couple months I've been having serious issues with my pro overheating and battery drain, sent off to apple twice and they couldn't diagnose/resolve the issue, so I finally did some digging myself this morning and it seems like the mail app is causing the problem (according to activity monitor), is anyone else noticing this issue? Im on Catalina 10.15.4 Any help is appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How do I add Folders to the System/Library/ScreenSavers Folder in Catalina Posted: 15 Apr 2020 05:48 PM PDT Before Catalina, I used to have all my custom screensavers, all just folders with png's, to create different themes, in the Macintosh HD/Library/ScreenSaver/Default Collections Folder, ... But then apple for some reason decided to go an move it to the systems folder ... now I can't customize my screensaver for easy access in the list in sys pref. So can anyone tell me how to add files/folders to this location: Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Apr 2020 04:50 PM PDT Bought my first Mac on 1 April. It is set to be here on the 21st. Any tips, tricks or app recommendations to someone who has never used Mac outside of an Apple store? [link] [comments]
MacOS Catalina sound effects (bin etc) muffled Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:51 PM PDT Hi I'm running Catalina 10.15.4 on a MacBook Air 2015 and just updated to it... is anyone else experiencing muffled sound effects like screenshots or trash empties? I know it's not my speakers because music plays out of them just fine. Any help would be appreciated :) [link] [comments]
Hangs when waking up from sleep Posted: 15 Apr 2020 03:56 PM PDT I have recently upgraded from High Sierra 10.13.6 to Mojave 10.14.6 on my early 2013 mbp 15". I seem to have issues with the machine waking up after it goes to sleep. Usually for longer periods of time ~3 hours+. (It could be shorter. But I don't seem to see this issue if it goes to sleep and I wake it up a few minutes later...say ~5minutes). Battery levels are sufficient for startup. Issue happens whether on battery power or plugged in. I have reset the SMC as well as the NVRAM but the issue persists. This was never an issue on 10.13.6 prior to updating to Mojave. As for the waking up part, all I see is the arrow from the cursor and a backlit dark grey screen. The cursor moves, but none of the keys seem to have any response apart from the power key. Are there any Safari adblockers that don't slow down launch? 'One Bounce' launch is gone :( Posted: 15 Apr 2020 02:19 PM PDT The reason I use Safari is because it typically opens in one 'bounce' on the dock - but now I've been forced to update to Safari 13 and use Apples neutered App Store extensions, it takes about 5 or 6 bounces, which genuinely makes my entire macOS experience about 25% worse :( I've tried AdBlock and AdGuard and they both slow down launch considerably, is anyone using one that doesn't? I don't plan on switching to another browser. Anyone else obsessed with having apps open in one bounce? [link] [comments]
Logitech M325 Scrolling Problem on MacOS 10.14.6 Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:54 PM PDT I'm having major issues with my mouse, Logitech M325. I can't really scroll up or down, if anyone knows the solution, please comment it down! [link] [comments]
Logic Pro X told me to delete itself and wouldn't open Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:49 PM PDT Unfortunately I didn't take any screenshots. But, the error message stated something along the lines of "Logic Pro X won't open, you must delete and re-download it". I couldn't find anyone else with any similar problem as me on the internet, I'm extremely pissed off, because for some reason It removed Logic Pro X from my purchased tab in the App Store, so all I can do is spend 200$ again to "redownload" it? Has anyone had a similar error message? Please let me know... Info: MacOS High Sierra, Macbook Pro (Early 2011) [link] [comments]
Booting from external HD doesn't always work Posted: 15 Apr 2020 03:51 PM PDT Using the "Install macOS Mojave" APP, I installed Mac OS on an external hard drive. I plugin at boot time, the Macbook recognises it , and the OS starts from the external drive. Doing the same procedure on other modern HD, it doesn't work. I can install Mac OS on the external HD, but at boot time it is not "recognised". I have to buy a new HD to be used in this way (booting Mac OS from external HD). Is there any known technical specification I should look for, to make sure, it will actually work? Thank you [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:03 PM PDT Im running 10.15.4 MBP 13" w/ Touch Bar In Mail I constantly get a pop-up if I am not using Mail, but it is open. Here is the error: This account (Mailbox Title) appears to be offline due to a network problem. Do you want to try to go online now? OPTIONS: Open Connection Doctor, Stay Off-line, Take All Accounts Online There are no 'lightning bolt' next to any mailbox denoted it is offline. Is there a way to 'always reconnect' or prevent this dialogue from opening up? When it opens it causes the Mail App to jump in my dock forcing me to go click the stupid button. Any thoughts? What are good screen recording software? Quicktime screen recording files are way too big Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:24 AM PDT I've used the built-in quicktime player but it's insane how big the files are. I don't know HD quality, I just need good enough quality and much smaller file sizes. I'd consider 1 hour of recording at a couple GBs to be reasonable. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Apr 2020 11:56 AM PDT I'm looking for a powerful text editor that can open and edit multi-gb text files, search/replace, macro record/play/edit, etc. Should be able to use all available ram and cpu, and be fast and efficient. All editors I tested are amateur toys, running on single thread, unable to do any editing in a large file. edit: thank you for recommendations. Bbedit will work for me, at least until I find something better. It's quite slower than my main windows editor EmEditor, but it survived my testing with 10gb text. looks like it can use all available cpu and ram. Sublime is a toy for a megabyte or less, and vs code is for code and too heavy for plain text. As for vim and emacs, ... I'm not a masochist, but I'll test them too and if they prove to be able and fast with monster files, then maybe they are worth learning. edit 2: never mind, bbedit sucks too. I thought it was using all available cpu, but I thought wrong, it is using single core only. I am completely new to Mac, and I mis-understood the activity monitor cpu readout. [link] [comments]
Can I disable the disappearing min/max/window effect? Posted: 15 Apr 2020 05:18 PM PDT Does anyone know how to enable/disable this annoying "feature"? Yes I've used reddit's shit search bar. Yes I've googled this time and time again. I want to disable the disappearing min/max/close (three dots top left). It always takes forever to reappear when I need to swap apps while working in fullscreen. [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 2015 Fan runs to max speed at random intervals Posted: 15 Apr 2020 04:47 PM PDT Hey, I bought my macbook in mid 2016 and for the last year it has been running quite weird. Without any intensive programs (on idle), my macbook would ramp up the fans to maximum speed for around 5 mins. It happens regardless of any program being used or whether my laptop is closed and not in use. Edit: it also doesn't enter a deep sleep mode and the battery will go from 100-0% overnight if not charging. That might actually be the bigger problem. Any idea what might be going on? I've already checked the temps and its not running hot. What ive tried: Reset PMC and SMC Clean install of macos. Cleaned the fans/chassis [link] [comments]
DosDude Catalina Patcher works on Radeon Grahpics!!! Posted: 15 Apr 2020 08:43 AM PDT Is there something I'm missing here? I just bought a 2009 iMac and before I could check the graphics I assumed it was Nvidia, And went right ahead installing Catalina. It wasn't until I installed Catalina and checked everything out that I realized it was running the Radeon graphics. Long story short everything works perfectly fine.!!!! There doesn't seem to be any lag or issues with the GPU or hardware acceleration in any form. If I'm missing something here please let me know. [link] [comments]
Updating from 10.14.4 to 10.14.6 Posted: 15 Apr 2020 11:29 AM PDT My mac is running 10.14.4. I dont want to update to Catalina yet as I hear there are still compatibility issues with some apps. Is it possible to upgrade to 10.14.6? If so how? [link] [comments]
WHY is the hidden photos folder not password protected? Posted: 15 Apr 2020 02:11 PM PDT WHY and HOW is the password protected folder not password protected? Not on my phone, not on my MacBook, not on my iPad, anyone using my device could go into my hidden photos without my password. Or is there one and I'm just overlooking it? If there isn't it's ridiculous how it isn't password protected. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:33 PM PDT The newest Catalina update has broken the native Mac mail app for our business. It's requiring our admins to grant unknown permissions to "Apple Internet Accounts". Apple has been "more than helpful" /s in helping us identify exactly why it needs permissions or given us the terms of service and we can't approve it until we have those details. So far all our Google-Fu has come up with no explanation as to the change and requested permissions apart from " OAuth authentication support with Outlook.com accounts for improved security". Does anyone have any insight? [link] [comments]
Apple Mail client Smart Mailbox criteria "message was replied to" not working as expected Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:24 PM PDT My goal is to create a system whereby emails to which I am expecting responses are automatically flagged with a yellow flag (completed by creating a rule using the criteria that my email is in CC) and I would like a smart search to find all emails with this yellow flag which do not have an email response. I was expecting the smart mailbox criteria "message was replied to" and "Message has flag: yellow" to catch the emails but it's not working as I expect. Does "message was replied to" only mean I replied to message or can it also mean someone else replied to message? Anyone else have this issue? If you have another solution using the Apple Mail client, please let me know. [link] [comments] |
