I have a question about the "why" of iPhone SE's low price

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 06:16 AM PDT

From a personal perspective, today's smartphones are consfusingly large, and have too many ugly cameras. And just like it is with everything else, I always assume there must be more people like myself, and therefore a market place for those with the same criteria for smartphones. So then comes iPhone SE for this exact audience, to fulfill the much needed "normal smartphone" requirement.

But then the price sounds low, because it's announced as a $400 device, when I personally would pay a "normal" price for it, e.g. $700 (is what I expected it to be). Because even though the body is "repeated", the phone (both software and the hardware specs) is still new.

So what is this phone actually? Is it just a way to get rid of all the iPhone 7/8 bodies that didn't sell when they were launched? Or how does this thing work from "their" perspective (as a business)? Because I'm happy right now as a consumer, I'm just curious about how it came to be...
