| Reviving an apple tv first generation Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:40 AM PDT Not a frequent Redditor but thought I'll drop a note about discovering an old apple tv. Was in the loft yesterday and found my apple TV first generation, the silver one shaped like a mac mini. It was still in the box with stuff I never got back to after moving house in 2008. Having last bought an apple device in 2012, I thought it would be fun to power it back again. The device comes with hdmi, ethernet and a standard figure 8 power adaptor. It started up with no problems connected to a 4k TV (resolution shows 1080p HD). Internet works fine as well through the Ethernet cable. Shortly after connecting to internet, it upgraded itself automatically to version 3.0.2, with a different UI. The tiny white remote works fine after replacing the CR2032. I've only done limited tests but local stuff works as do Internet radio stations and flickr search. Youtube, Apple trailers etc doesn't work. But beyond the exhilaration of seeing it work, this one had pure magic up its sleeve. These devices had storage that sync'ed to iTunes and that made this one was a time capsule of long forgotten memories. My wife and I have relocated, moved houses, had kids, changed careers and more in the last 10-12 years but turning the music back on was being pulled back into time. We've been singing some incredibly cheesy songs from 2000s all morning and I suspect our eldest thinks the social isolation has got to us. It even had photos from our wedding roughly around the same time I bought this unit. This apple tv was incredibly expensive and impulsive purchase at the time but has more than redeemed itself after all these years in few hours. I also found my old white iBook laptop along with the apple tv. It was pretty much dead even in 2008 so not sure it will boot now. The charger is missing but planning to make another expedition to the loft find it. [link] [comments]  | ||
| Apple TV+ subscription in browser only shows 4 episodes? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:14 PM PDT Trying to watch For All Mankind, the browser player for Apple TV+ only shows 4 episodes, and won't play beyond Ep4. Tried a couple browsers, no difference. My TV is too old for the app, I don't have any apple devices to play it on, anyone else having this issue with the browser player? Or know why it's occurring? Edit: I've managed to 'trick' the player into starting Episode 5, so it's at least working that way. I have no way to directly start any episode later than Ep4 though. Ep5 started by playing EP4, skipping it to the end, then when it just faded to black and never progressed to the next episode on its own, closing the player then clicking the "Play season" button at the bottom of the For All Mankind page has got it to start Ep5. Does not seem to work consistently, the first times I tried this it just went back to episode 1. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Posted: 25 Apr 2020 01:53 PM PDT We are currently paying up to $90 a month for Direct TV and we're thinking about dropping it and switch to a streaming service that is similar to cable, we've looked at some streaming services but Apple TV has caught our attention but we have some questions about the service. Can Apple TV replace cable? Supposedly Apple TV is $4.99 a month which threw me off. If I subscribe will I be able to watch TV shows like I would with regular cable? I can't go over there because I don't want to risk getting her sick. Just explaining to her how to flip the camera and then aim it at the tv during FaceTime is exhausting. She's great with text messages (and is obsessed with gifs), so I want to circle the button that lets you switch to capital letters. My request: I need someone to take a picture of the login screen so I can show grandma how to turn on capital letters for entering the Netflix password. I'm seeing some weird behavior when using a Apple TV with an Yamaha YAS-209 soundbar through HDMI ARC to a Samsung TV. While it works well, it turns off the soundbar when starting the screensaver. Upon turning off the soundbar, it unpauses whatever was just paused and leaves me with a screensaver with the program's sound playing. HDMI CEC is active and works too, but I had to make the Apple TV learn the remote for the volume control to work. Has anybody seen this problem before? Edit: spelling [link] [comments]  | ||

She has a separate Apple email that is linked to all of her contacts and FaceTime. We love the seamless integration of Photos, Notes, Reminders, iCloud storage, and purchased Movies/TV shows. However, we don't like that Podcast and TV merges all of our respective "listening" and "watching" history under the one account. We do want our iPhones and iPads to link this history seamlessly (i.e. husband iPhone to husband iPad, but not cross to wife's iPhone or iPad). How do we separate Podcast listening and TV watching history, and at the same time retain the seamless integration of Photos, Notes, Reminders, iCloud storage, purchased Movies/TV shows? Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:50 AM PDT Hi All, So my AppleTV stopped working - it's not the remote/batteries, it's not the tv, it seems to be the AppleTV "stick." I'm fine with this, I don't watch it much. I already canceled my Netflix subscription (I did so on my computer), but I can't figure out how to cancel Starz since I can't access the AppleTV interface. | Apple TV Content/Frame Rate marching Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:52 AM PDT Hi all, I apologise in advance for my lack of tech knowledge - I noticed what I've googled and believe is called "judder" (choppy/not smooth movement of picture especially noticeable in panning shots etc.) and it had been happening for literally years on my (I believe second generation Apple TV device - would have been bought in 2017 I believe). The advice I received when finally seeking some assistance was to turn content matching frame rate off - this worked for about 2 weeks. Now the judder returned - I then switched it back to match frame rate and the judder is gone. Is there any logical explanation for this? Any assistance is greatly appreciated [link] [comments]  | ||
