If your CPU goes above 90℃, you should consider repasting CPU Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:22 PM PDT I have an i7 Macbook Air 2017 and I noticed while putting my Macbook to F@H at full load, the temperature easily goes above 100℃ and it absolutely fries my macbook. So I ordered new thermal paste Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and applied to it, and the result is so pleasing. It stays between high 70 to 85 max while pumping F@H at full load. So, high quality thermal paste, 100% worth it. It will save your macbook for long time with very little cost if CPU goes very high temperature. For those who wants to go with liquid metal, I highly suggest going with good thermal paste first, and then liquid metal, as liquid metal might seep out to the motherboard and it might ruin your macbook. To me, reapplying thermal paste did the good enough job. Edit: one thing to mention is that if you're not an expert on what you're doing, I highly suggest to look for step by step guide for reapplying it, because I had quite a hard time for it. Does anyone have info or rumors to the 14" macbook possibly coming in may Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:40 PM PDT I remember seeing a post in r/Apple but i can't seem to find it. I'm just waiting for the next i gen because of the keyboard and also is the air got a nice upgrade and lower price I'm hoping this one will too. [link] [comments]
Upgrading to Macbook Air for Development & Research Posted: 29 Apr 2020 03:17 PM PDT I really want to! I currently have the Huawei Matebook X Pro, 2018 edition. The current things holding me back right now are the following:
But! I need to do some development on GCloud, and macOS seems to be much more reliable and usable for that. I also have an iPhone 11, iPad Pro 2018, and watch, so this would mean that I'm fully taking advantage of that ecosystem. I'm about to be a grad student in EECS or public policy, and either way I'll be getting intense usage out of my laptop. I'm certainly enticed by the concept of having a natively unix environment for development, and the possibility of Sidecar to keep my iPad as a usable external display on the go. Also, honestly, the keyboard on the Matebook is really good! But I guess Mac's keyboards and trackpads are considered great. The one thing I'm somewhat averse to is that I prefer to navigate everything without *ever* touching the trackpad, and that doesn't seem to be the philosophy of macOS. Can anyone speak to their experiences with the enticing features I mentioned above? Would it be idiotic to swap down to a worse processor and no GPU? Is macOS that much better for development. MBP Late 2011 - Fans randomly running at 6200rpm and gaining heat? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:22 PM PDT I've recently just bought this MacBook preowned (I have a pc so it was just for university work and chilling etc) but I've noticed that the fans are running at 6200 rpm out of nowhere suddenly and it is increasing the heat of the system, it is not hindering performance at all and is running quite fast still with no issues. I've ran the apple diagnostics test and it could find no issue's, so I no it's not a sensor issue. I've also ran a SMC reset which fixes the issue temporally. It's has a Hitachi 500gb HDD with 4gb Ram, it is model A1278. Notes to add: It has no feet and the battery today has recently turned to "replace now" if these have anything thing to do with. Quick note before I post, force terminating photoanlaysis seems to bring the fans down and the heat temporarily. Thanks for the help in advance :) [link] [comments]
Bluetooth input sounds distorted Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:12 PM PDT I use Sony WH-1000XM3 and AirPods pro on my MacBook Pro 13 inch I just bought less than a month ago and everyone tells me I sound distorted and robotic when I use my headphones. I tried them on my iPhone and iPad and they tell me I sound way better. I'd I use a wired headset I also sound better. Any solutions? [link] [comments]
Macbook Air USB Docking Station Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:47 PM PDT Ok, so I currently use two laptops: Work Laptop (Surface Book 2) and Personal Laptop (Macbook Air 2013, will probably upgrade next year to the latest model). I am now looking for a USB Docking Station so that all I need to do is plug in a single usb cable from the dock to my laptop and I will then be able to use my monitor. The question I have is which USB dock will work for both Macbook Air and Surface Book 2? Will any USB Docking Station work with Macbook or do I need to buy a specific one? Thanks! Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:13 PM PDT Coming from an Android and I'm switching over Apple. I'm going to buy a new laptop soon for Graduate school, would you guys recommend the Air or Pro? Along with which iphone? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:03 PM PDT Currently have an air 2019 128gb. Storage is not enough for my work and I should've realised when I bought it but I'll need something with at least 512gb now. I've got an offer for $1250AUD and someone else is also simultaneously selling a pro 2018 512gb with dongle and case for $1600AUD. Is it worth it to buy that now or wait until the end of the year for 2020 pro? [link] [comments]
Need help specing a MBP 16 inch for music production Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:42 PM PDT So i'm planning on buying a high end MBP that will primarily be used for music production in Logic Pro X. I use a lot of VSTs, Kontakt stuff etc, so I want something that will last me for years without any real inconveniences. I know Macbooks aren't optimal for gaming but i'd also like it to be able to handle some stuff through boot camp like Half Life Alyx. I'm thinking one of the i9 processors, at least 32 gigs of ram, and the highest graphics option, but i'm not too well versed in these parts and I don't know at what point it becomes overkill. This is my first new Macbook in 5 years and money isn't really an issue so I want to be satisfied. Any advice helps. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 04:17 PM PDT I've had this MacBook basically since brand new. The last two updates have really played a toll on the laptop. It's a stock laptop, no upgrades. It's running hot CONSTANTLY, and it's taking forever to do small tasks like opening Safari. What's going on? Do I need to just bite the bullet and upgrade to a SSD? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:30 PM PDT I am considering buying a macbook for the first time. My Lenovo has served me well for the past 8 years, but I think it is time for an upgrade. I am seeing some macbooks air's on amazon for $500-$700 refurbished, but I am also seeing a lot of horror stories from buyers getting a less than mint product. Any suggestions on where to start in the buying process? If you bought refurbished, how satisfied are you with your purchase and where did you purchase from? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:16 PM PDT Since school is all online this quarter I've been spending way too long on on my laptop everyday. I hate to see it cycle all the time and I also hate to see it sitting at 100%. Honestly I don't really need to hear all the "it doesn't for batteries matter now a days" because I agree. It probably doesn't matter. But I would still prefer to have my laptop battery sit all day at 50% unused rather than keep it at 100. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:00 PM PDT She's a school teacher, used her MBP for Microsoft Office, Zoom, Lesson plans, and occasional web browsing like Netflix, Youtube, etc. My initial budget was around USD 750, but if another USD 250 is worth a brand new, future proof replacement for her needs maybe the gap is worth it. Plus, although Apple is very reliable I am concerned how lucky we would be with a used model. Regardless, I would love your opinion and value it very much when dropping so much cash. Thanks. Is it a bad idea to get the 1.4GHz 13” 2019 Macbook Pro atm? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:32 PM PDT Currently I have a windows laptop and I've been planning on upgrading since forever. Are there any cons to upgrading to this model? [link] [comments]
Micro scratches on screen. Do you ever get them ? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:09 PM PDT I think mine is being caused by a microfiber cloth somehow. Possibly has microscopic particles in it. Has this ever happened to you ? Do you have micro scratches on your display ? [link] [comments]
Is it worth attempting to replace wife’s 2011 MBP with a refurbished screen? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:30 AM PDT Screen acted crazy last night then was dead. Can confirm everything else works fine. I saw some refurbished screens on eBay for as little as $40. She's a school teacher and doesn't need top of the line. Otherwise if you recommend another MacBook under $800 we can try to make it work. Question about MacBook Air and Apple Pencil. Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:44 AM PDT Wonder if anyone could advise. I want to learn how to use adobe illustrator (I've dabbled but want to learn it properly to try and improve my career prospects), and was wondering what my best hardware set up would be? I have a 2018 MacBook Air, and have been considering the options. Can I use an Apple Pencil on the trackpad, or would I need separate hardware? Was also wondering if learning on an iPad would be better, or is the desktop version with a mouse just as good (or superior)? Any advice greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 09:52 AM PDT My MacBook Air just came in brand new and when I was setting it up I couldn't connect to the internet because it said I didn't have an IP address. I had no idea why so I clicked around and ended up getting it connected by manually imputing the ip info from my old laptop which is connected without a problem. Now only google and Facebook work. Other websites can't "connect to the server" I don't know what else to do, this has never happened especially with a new laptop. All help is geared toward people who have suddenly experienced this issue. Not with a brand new product. Any ideas?? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Apr 2020 03:22 AM PDT I love the 2019 16 MacBook Pro. This is a beast. I am thinking, would there be a refresh of this model and should I just wait it out? [link] [comments] |
