I bought a Macbook Pro after hearing that Macs never crash for years - it crashes daily Posted: 05 Apr 2020 08:34 PM PDT My $4,000 Macbook Pro crashes daily. Absolutely daily. Timeout IO fault panic. Am I really this unlucky that my first ever Apple product is broken? [link] [comments] |
Could I use a prepaid phone as a iPod? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 10:01 AM PDT There's really cheap deals on prepaid iPhones at my local store, but they're locked to carriers. So could I just buy one and not use the carrier and use it as a iPod? [link] [comments] |

Apple ID prompt keeps popping up Posted: 05 Apr 2020 07:08 PM PDT Hi, I keep getting the Apple ID password prompt. I have been pressing decline, but recently I decided to enter it and it was wrong. To fix it I'm told to reset it through email, however it's and old email through Yahoo that no longer exists as far as I am aware. I also have the option the enter answers to security question but I do not remember them. I have tried to just delete this apple I'd and restart with a new one but I'm told to sign out, which I need my password even though I'm not even signed in. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro, black screen but keyboard and keyboard touchscreen lights up; what’s going on? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 05:54 PM PDT I have a MacBook Pro from 2016 that "died" on me last night. I'm not positive what the OSX was but I believe I had it updated to as recently as possible. Last night I was browsing online when my screen went completely black. I plugged in the charger to check if the battery had simply died. Nope. The laptop appears to turn on and off like normal. I've heard the little boot up chime come on, and the keyboard clearly lights up. The touch screen bar on the keyboard also lights up, but is unresponsive as far as I can tell when I touch it. I have not dropped the laptop, sat on it, or spilled any liquids on it. I tried various suggested reboot methods provided online, none of which have worked. I'm about the least tech savvy person I know so I don't feel comfortable opening up the computer myself (not that I reasonably could lol). It seems like the screen has somehow disconnected from the hard drive and isn't responding to input from the keyboard or track pad, since everything else seems to turn on fine other than, of course, my big black screen. My partner suggested I try to run the BIOS, but I'm worried about trying anything more without an active screen. I don't want to lose all my data forever if it can be avoided. I'm going to try and reach out to local tech places in the area this coming week to see if anyone will take it to have a look, but if possible I'd like to avoid that (the current social climate doesn't seem to lend well to "nonessential" repairs). If anyone has any suggestions please help me out! [link] [comments] |
iPhone 6 randomly started overheating Posted: 05 Apr 2020 06:23 PM PDT I've only had it for maybe 6/7 months (brand new). I had it left unlocked on my homepage for maybe 20 minutes but then in the corner of my eye I started to see the screen brightness flickering darker every couple of minutes (as if I was on battery saver mode and it was getting ready to lock itself, but I wasn't on battery saver mode), after seeing it happen maybe 3 times I picked my phone up and it was scorching hot for no reason whatsoever. Before I could even look at it it came up with the temperature warning and I had to wait until it had cooled down. This happened a few hours ago and hasn't stopped since, the second I pick it up, even to unlock it and click on something it immediately starts heating up and continues to do so until either the temperature warning reappears again or I put it down and stop using it. It becomes scorching hot. I have no apps running, not streaming anything, not playing any games, I've taken my phone case off, turned off optimised battery charging, iOS is all updated, all apps are up to date, I've checked my battery usage (nothing unusual) and analytics (again, nothing unusual) but it's still burning hot for seemingly no reason whatsoever and the battery is rapidly draining - I can't use it. The second I unlock it it becomes burning hot within seconds without me even having done anything. Due to the current world situation I'm not sure what to do as it's not like I can go and get it fixed...any ideas on why it randomly started doing this and how I can stop it...? [link] [comments] |

iphone 11 crackling sound from the speaker Posted: 05 Apr 2020 05:12 PM PDT so i've had my iphone 11 for 3 weeks now and as of late i've noticed a very low crackling / static sound when any kind of audio plays. i haven't taken it near any water so it can't be water damaged and i've also tried cleaning the speakers with a cloth but the problem still persists. i'm also on the latest version of ios and it's in perfect condition other than that. of course i can't take it to an apple store right now but is there anything i can do? or has anyone else experienced this? anything would be appreciated. thanks [link] [comments] |

Problem with windows after deinstallation went wrong Posted: 05 Apr 2020 06:39 PM PDT I am sorry about the possible misuse of terminology. Since I am not a computer person, my knowledge on this topic is limited, so if there's anything I need to clarify, then please feel free to message me. I tried to delete windows off of my mac about a year ago and messed up. I remember deleting the partition without deleting windows itself off of the hard drive. I tried to install windows again, thinking that the problem was gone (and since it didn't show up on disk utility), but it wouldn't install, and when I try to open windows from my hard drive, an error 0xc0000225 pops up. Most of the tutorials on youtube about this problem mention a windows disc, but I don't have that. I'd appreciate any help I can get to resolve this issue. I have a 15 inch 2016 macbook pro running the latest software. [link] [comments] |
Is my MBP ready to sell after deleting my information this way? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:41 PM PDT I deleted all sensitive files like my photos, CC information, etc. then restarted, deleted the drive via Disk Utility and ended up with container disk 2 and Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD - Data. Then I installed Mac OS Catalina and see the initial setup screen. 1) Why container disk 2 instead of 1? 2) Did I need to turn off File Vault before deleting the drive? I did not do so but it seemed like the drive was all deleted fine [link] [comments] |
My old Macbook Pro heats up doing the simplest of tasks. Posted: 05 Apr 2020 10:09 PM PDT This is a mid-2012 MBP. Obviously old, it was given to me by a relative and it still works great (except for the battery but that's alright), the only annoying issue I have with it is it heats up like CRAZY doing the simplest of tasks (browsing with Safari or playing music on Spotify). It's so uncomfortable whenever it's on my lap, not to mention the fans get so loud as well. What repair should I be doing? Or is this just a sign of old age and I should just get used to it? MacBook Pro 13” 2015 water damage, is it salvageable? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 09:53 PM PDT MacBook recently had water spilled over keyboard, some of the keys don't work I have opened the case and cleaned as much as I could without removing components. I have dried the MacBook for a few days with the power off and am able to boot to the login screen. The password is rejected, however when entering it in the startup disk app to decrypt the ssd it is accepted. I am not able to boot into recovery mode or into boot menu for some reason. Is it worth dismantling the whole thing and cleaning it all out? [link] [comments] |

Having issues getting Macbook Pro to recognize USB SuperDrive Posted: 05 Apr 2020 05:20 PM PDT Hello r/applehelp, I'm having an issue getting my Macbook Pro to recognize a USB SuperDrive I just bought. I purchased it via Ebay & it was brand new. My Macbook Pro is an early 2015 retina display 13 inch running catalina os 10.15.4. I am trying to run backyard baseball 2001, its a WinMac CD-Rom and it does not have any scratches on it. I am obviously not super tech savy but when I open up finder the USB SuperDrive does not show up in the vertical panel. I did some research online and have tried re-setting the SMC per apple's instructions and pulled up the Macbook Pro system information and when I click on the USB option under the hardware drop down, it does show the SuperDrive and it shows that Backyard Baseball 2001 is in the Drive. I'm kind of lost and this has brought me here. I have no clue where to go from here to get the Drive to work or to even try to get the disc out of the drive. I'm not sure what the problem is. Any ideas or help is welcomed. Have a nice day. [link] [comments] |
Iphone 11 pro max speaker test Posted: 05 Apr 2020 08:41 PM PDT Hey guys. I need some ways to diagnose my Iphone 11 pro max speakers. I feel like my speaker is low when being used for calls in loud speaker or when I play high quality music from spotify. I have an old iphone 7 and it is louder and clearer compared to my new phone. Sometimes when I am talking on the phone the loud speaker is just so low. How do I diagnose this? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Late 2015 iMac - Bad Logic Board Posted: 05 Apr 2020 07:58 PM PDT iMac 27-Inch "Core i5" 3.3 (5K, Late 2015) - A1419 (EMC 2834) Have a Late 2015 iMac, no display. Family member attempted their own upgrade. He replaced the HDD with an SSD, and the screen no longer worked afterward. I checked it and the Logic Board shows the power led on the board when plugged in. Light 2 illuminates when the system is powered on. However, no LED for the GPU nor the Display when connected. Suspect GPU to be bad, and accordingly the Logic Board needs replaced. I am trying like crazy to find the 820-00134-A Logic Board for under $550. Is it possible that a logic board from a Late 2014 or mid 2015 system will fit this system? Advice/Help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

The Cmd-V on my 2018 MacBook Pro stopped working out of nowhere? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 07:54 PM PDT Cmd-V seems to no longer work on my MacBook. Option Cmd V works no problem, but when I try to rebind paste to Cmd V in my code editor, it doesn't detect it. It reads Cmd and V perfectly fine separately. Or if I add another modifier with it it works. Keribener Elements can detect the Cmd V. And before someone says anything about that I shut it down and I still have the problem. It doesn't work with and Cmd key. Neither of the two on my external keyboard nor the two on the MacBook itself. Doesn't work with or without the keyboard plugged in. I don't know what could have triggered this. I was messing around with the resolution of my secondary monitor, and then I go back to development, and all of a sudden, my paste no longer works. I don't know how they could be related. Hitting Cmd-C highlights the edit menu, hitting Cmd V doesn't. If I go into the edit menu, Cmd V still says it's bound to Paste. I'm wondering, is it possible I accidentally turned on a setting that overrides the Cmd-V keybinding? Here's an image of cmd-v being clicked, keyboard viewer built into Mac detects it, but not VSCode. [link] [comments] |
