Posted: 03 Mar 2020 03:00 AM PST In my effort to go paperless one of the most important things for me to replace was my Moleskine that I write new notes on every day. Here is my monthly version for you - feel free to use it How I use it: Landscape mode Every day I date the top on the left Every new day I rewrite my to-do list (and change colors of some items depending on if they in progress etc but that is for another post) on the Left of the page When someone phones or tells me something I scribble it on the right or do sketches for people on the right. Does anyone think that Sidecar will evolve into a true remoting feature similar to Microsoft RDP? Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:16 AM PST I would love if Sidecar eventually evolved into a true RDP feature which would allow you to remote into your macOS device over the network. I would like to use this in my home and even remote in from a remote network. I use Screens and Screens Connect to do this right now but what I don't like is that the resolution does not natively support the iPad's resolution, creating black bars on the top and bottom. I know this shouldn't be a big deal, but I am a perfectionist and the extra screen space would help when I am working with Xcode. Apple Pencil & Youtube App in iPad 6th Gen and iPad Air 2019 Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:11 AM PST I have iPad 6th gen which I've used for quite some time and iPad Air 2019 bought very recently. For both tablets, I use one Apple Pencil which I usually charge with the original iPad charger. However, I just found out that I can't use my Pencil on my Air when it is charged, which is kind of strange because this doesn't happen to my 6th. There is also an issue with Youtube app. Mine is premium, but it doesn't play in the background (again) on my Air while on my 6th, I can jump into other app and the video keeps playing. I went from Apple Smart Folio to Otterbox Symmetry Series and back in less than 3 days. Posted: 02 Mar 2020 10:42 PM PST I REALLY wanted a case that could keep the pencil secure when in my bag so I got the Otterbox. I've never owned any Otterbox product as I've been a "as slim as possible" guy with all my protective cases. After using the Otterbox for a few hours, I just hated how the front flap and pencil flap kept fighting for position as well as the front flap not keeping its alignment due to the spine's shorter length. The rubber lip that goes around the screen was more annoying than not when swiping especially when held in your hand. It was also loose enough that it would bend if held on the edges. Backups: the importance of being earnest Posted: 02 Mar 2020 07:44 PM PST I have a 32gb iPhone and a 256gb iPad, and was told my iPad is probably going to be replaced in warranty and thus I should do a backup. It's been almost a decade since my previous iOS backup, and I vaguely recollect doing ok also with a couple of third party apps. This time I am using iTunes on Windows and did a test run with the iPhone. The iPhone says I have 9gb available, the iTunes window shows 21gb "free", and the backup is 1.65gb in size. The iPad follows a similar pattern with 25gb available, now 80gb available after offloading unused apps, but a backup size of 29gb. I am on the default 5gb iCloud . Backups may give or take a gigabyte or two based on compression and such, but the 29gb of my iPad looks like a scary, random subset of the media and documents in various parts of my iPad, in VLC, in Adobe Reader, many other apps. Does anybody know why Apple a) is not doing real, full backups b) why they are reporting device storage differently and, most importantly, c) which app does a full backup and can give me peace of mind? Bonus question, if I had the Terrabyte iCloud option, would everything have found its way to the cloud? And/or, if I only paid for the 200gb iCloud, would I be getting a random selection of my 256 or 512gb iPad data? submitted by /u/bonevays [link] [comments]
