    so, the green light next to the camera won't turn off and i've closed down all applications that concern my camera being used so i'm still confused why its on. should i be concerned? have i been hacked? feel like im in black mirror. yikes

    Mac just restarts but does not update

    When i try to install 10.15.3 I have to restart to start the update (after clicking on Install Now). The problem is that after restarting it does not start updating and it still shows the update in System Preferences. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    My mac was working perfectly fine i did a restart it didn’t do anything (froze on the apple loading bar) tried turning on and off and now this is happening and won’t move or do anything

    What have I done?! Stuck on this screen after attempting to install a new SSD. It doesn’t make it too far past this before it cuts out.

    i think my mac has a virus...how can i find out?

    on the latest macOS...when i visit a specific website in safari (www.arstechnica.com) i get fullscreen ads that i cant exit or close...i know that i can use other browsers (which i do regularly) but i am curious if i actually have a virus, or is this something that happened to arstechnica site? i made a video of what happens...how can i even begin to check what's wrong? thanks!

    How to open a new window with keyboard shortcut when ⌘+N doesn't work

    Many times I find myself selecting an app from the app switcher that doesn't have any open windows.

    Finder is like this many times. Most times I can just press ⌘+N and a new window appears.

    However, in apps like Xcode, Notion, and Things the same shortcut means a new project or item. In these apps, I am forced to grab my mouse drag it to the dock and click on the app icon. Is there a way to replace the mouse with a keyboard shortcut in these cases? I am looking for native solutions or 3rd party like Better Touch Tool.

    Any users of GlobalDelight's Boom 2 or Boom 3D's volume booster for MacOS?

    I find the speakers on my late 2013 MBP sometimes too low. So a few years ago I bought Boom v1 from GlobalDelight, and it did a satisfactory job of boosting the volume.

    When Boom 2 came out there was no upgrade path, and I was sort of upset at that, because it came out like 1 month after my purchase.

    Now Boom 1 won't work under Catalina, and try as I might, I could not understand what Picard was saying in the new "Picard" series and so I tried Boom 2. I could better hear what was going on.

    It seems after the 7 day trial you can keep running it with some limitations, but I can't get information from the unresponsive support people at GlobalDelight.

    One thing I was considering was trying to continue to renew the free trial every week.

    But the I got a 75% off offer in the mail today for Boom 3D. So it would be just $10, which might be worth it.

    Anybody use Boom 2 or Boom 3D? Any real difference in the volume booster quality?

    I need help with Second SSD and also bootable to Ubuntu

    Hi im posting here because i need help on adding my second ssd to my mac(im running MacOS HighSierra 10.13)

    I have a 2011 mac book pro and I took my optical drive out and put a second SSD (240gb) but i dont know how to add it to my system. Im new to MacOS so I dont know how but on windows i know exactly how to add a new drive to my system. Also im trying to make my second SSD bootable with unbuntu linux (im trying to learn how to use it as well). Can someone help me with telling me on how to add it and make it bootable with the correct partitions and steps.

    Hi, I'm searching for a driver for brother printer HL-2030 under Mac OS 10.15.3. It seems that there is no compatibility for older printers to new Mac OS.

    Sync old messages to iCloud again?

    So: I somehow managed to delete every conversation older than a month (to save space on my iPad i guess) and didn't think it removed them from iCloud too. My Messages in iCloud went from around 3 GB to 340 MB. I guess this is normal behavior, but what if I get a new iPad with more storage and would like to keep all Messages on that - they're gone then.

    Anyway - I found an old backup and restored that to my MacBook thinking that this would push the old messages to iCloud again. It doesn't however. My iMac, iPad and iPhone doesn't pick up the older messages and the messages size in iCloud stays the same. All new messages are syncing fine.

    Question: How do I get iCloud to pick up the old messages on my MacBook? All devices are set to keep messages forever. I have enough free space on iCloud. I have logged out and in again on all devices.

    Can Mojave be installed on 16" Macbook Pro?

    My seven year old Macbook Air died, and I'm looking at a new machine. I use Pro Tools and Ableton Live, so the six-core base model 16" Macbook Pro would be perfect. Except: many of my plugins are a few years old, and won't work in Catalina (nor will Ableton Live 9). To upgrade all the plugins + Ableton would be about $1000 on top of what I'll already spend for the machine, so...

    I'm wondering if it's possible to install Mojave on a Macbook Pro 16". I know you generally can't install an older OS than the latest when the machine was released, but I'm not sure where the 16" falls. I think it barely predated Catalina? Does anyone know?

    MacBook Pro not working

    Not sure if this is the right sub to post in, please point me elsewhere if it's not!

    I have a mid 2012 model MacBook Pro and about 10 months ago some of the keys on the keyboard stopped working. I took it into Apple to get it looked at, and they told me I could spend up to $800 to get it fixed or buy a keyboard to plug into it and it would be fine. So I did that while continuing to check the keyboard every new and then, sometimes it would go back to working properly, but in the past few months more and more keys just completely stopped working.

    4 days ago, my trackpad started to glitch and stopped working properly too. As of today, the whole laptop is dead and I can't turn it on. The battery was full this morning (I can still check the battery lights on the side), however it felt quite hot and the battery level has been decreasing since then.

    Any ideas on what could be the issue? I can't get an appointment with the Genius Bar until Wednesday.

    Fairly often when I shut down my iMac 27 (2019- running Catalina) I will find that instead of shutting down, it restarted. When I log in I have a pop-up that states there was a problem with the computer, it had to restart and would I like to send the report to Apple?

    This doesn't happen every time but easily 25-30%. Anyone else experiencing this? Any idea as to what might cause this. I'm a relatively new convert to the Apple ecosystem (9 months) and am quite glad to be here. I appreciate any help or guidance.

    Mac shutting down unexpectedly

    So, recently I have been experiencing my MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch, Mid 2015, starting to shut down unexpectedly. Two or three times when uploading tracks/videos to YouTube and one time today after opening HBO on Google Chrome. When starting again today I got the option to open all windows on Chrome, and HBO opened up with black subtitles and it was kinda greyish. Also the icon for volume on the top bar disappeared, which I found very strange.

    I tried to restart my Mac to see if this all got fixed, and HBO/Chrome is running fine but somehow the volume icon have not appeared. There us some space between Wifi and Bluetooth, and between Bluetooth and Time Machine, so I guess the volume icon should appear between there somewhere. To be clear, I have not updated to latest update yet, I don't know if that may have caused this problem with my Mac unexpectedly turning off?

    Hey guys, so i've recently begun using my 2019 13 inch macbook pro (1.4ghz i5) with my external Dell P2312H (1080/60) monitor . Recently I've noticed that video quality (specifically in the dark parts of video) has this odd green effect that is nowhere else to be found. The only way i can replicate this issue is to watch videos with dark borders. I have this monitor hooked up thru a Usbc to hdmi dongle and an hdmi to hdmi cable connected to the monitor's DVID port. How can i fix this

    Dynamic wallpaper timing

    Hey folks — wondering if anybody knows exactly what the start point is between each series of wallpaper transitions? I know it's a gradual transition from one image to the next, but I can't tell at what exact time during the day each of the 16 different photos initiates it's transition, which is what I need to figure out which set of altitude/azimuth data I'll need to use for the wallpaper I'm digitally designing. I'm basing that data on this link, using mczachurski's command line tool, for those of you interested in my process. Anybody know what those points are? Or how I'd extract the .json file from the default .heic wallpapers that come with Mac OS?

    Solutions to missing album art in Catalina Music app?

    I finally upgraded my MBP 2015 to Catalina yesterday after holding off for a while, largely due to the missing album art issue, and sure enough a lot of my album art is now missing.

    - All of the albums I added since 2016 are fine. The first albums with missing artwork I added in 2015, and as I go back in time, the problem becomes more and more common.

    - I left it open overnight, and as far as I can tell nothing updated over that time (the newest albums with blank album art when I went to bed still were blank in the morning). Moreover it no longer reads "loading artwork" in the bottom right. So I don't think it's a matter of leaving the app open longer.

    - I tried starting Music while holding option and selecting my old pre-upgrade .itl file. It went through the same process of loading album art, with the same set of albums ending up with missing art.

    - A lot of my albums are obscure and/or tagged differently than they are in the iTunes store so "Get Album Artwork" won't work for those, but some of the missing albums do work with "Get Album Artwork," so that's not the problem.

    - I've tried closing and restarting the app a bunch of times, to no avail.

    Are there any known solutions besides manually adding art to every album that's missing it?

    I Googled the crap out of this, I got nothing. I use Shift+Cmd+4 to capture part of the screen. I get the popup in the lower corner of my screen and I can open it...but then I have to open the image in Preview to be able to copy and paste into wherever I want it. Is there a way to capture a portion of a screen AND have it saved to the clipboard?

    Mac-Windows Shared Folder over LAN Issue (Privacy)

    A little background, I am a photographer who has a studio setup.

    So I have successfully made my 2015 Macbook Pro as the host (SMB Share) for use over my Local Area Network (LAN) to be accessed by one of my editors on his/her Windows laptop. I have selected using the Sharing option in Apple System Preferences, ONLY ONE folder (Named: "MAC SHARED") to be shared on the network. The connection is successful, as we could view, read and write files, of the "MAC Shared" folder on the Windows machine.

    My main concern is, on the Windows machine, not only can I view, read and write files of the "Mac Shared" folder, but I can also do the same with my Macbook USER folder on the Windows machine. How can I make this stop appearing or from being accessed by anyone on the LAN? I only want my editors to access the only shared folder I created and opted, "MAC Shared"
