What's the best way to get an even trade for my 2015 15'' macbook for a 2015 13'' with the same RAM and storage space?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 11:41 PM PST

I ruined my 13" 2013 macbook pro, which I loved but the processing speed was holding me back. I decided to spring for a 15" with more working memory and higher storage. That's all great but the thing is huge, heavy and just ridiculously cumbersome to be carried around.

I live in NYC. I miss Tekserve. What would be the best way to get an even swap for a 13" (preferably 2015, the last before they messed up the keyboard)?

Also, how can I properly wipe my computer? I am guessing I do it on my own and then check at the Genius Bar.

    Thunderbolt Problem

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 03:27 PM PST

I have an early 2015 macbook air and over the past few months I have successfully connected my laptop via thunderbolt to an external monitor. Perhaps it was with the last update, but now my thunderbolt no longer displays to external monitors. It continues to do the flip to black screen then whole screen after I connect the thunderbolt cable. Does anyone else have this issue? Any fixes?

    Screen Issue

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 09:06 PM PST

I've got a 2017 MacBook Pro for a couple years now. When I was given the opportunity to purchase this computer, I was told I'd have a year to buy Apple Care given that Apple had totally botched the repair on my previous MacBook. However when I called around the one year mark, I was told I couldn't buy it and it had to be bought within a month or so of purchase. Customer Relations never informed me of this. But I digress, I now have this display issue and I can't tell if its a burn in or something else. Can someone pinpoint this for me and let me know what can be done about it? I did spend around 8 hours working on it this morning though so I'm thinking it may be temporary.

    Camera icon menu bar

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 05:50 PM PST

I have a basic question about my Mac I just bought..

What is the camera icon in the top menu bar? I'm assuming it has to do with my webcam, but I have never used it. When I click it, it says "pause" but nothing happens...

    Anyone?

Do you use a mouse with your MacBook?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 01:10 PM PST

I recently started using a Logitech mouse with my MacBook Air 13in because I noticed stains on my trackpad. I have been enjoying it so far & I just wanted to know if any of you who may be reading this ever considered using a mouse. If so, what kind of mouse do you use?

What is the most maxed-out MacBook Pro 16" that Apple maintains in inventory in Apple stores?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 12:10 PM PST

I know that Apple tries to keep the "top-of-the-line" maxed-out iPad in stock at Apple stores.

I configured a maxed out MacBook Pro 16", hoping to find it available in the store, but instead, it had a delivery date of March 2. I'd like to get a new Macbook 16" sooner than that.

What is the most maxed out configuration Apple sends to stores?

    Credit card stolen

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 06:37 AM PST

I do a lot of online shopping but I do most of it from my phone, I had to make a purchase off my computer and the next day my credit card was stolen. The site is a trusted (TurboTax) site. Could someone have "hacked" into my computer. I know it's rare for Mac's I just find it odd the first time in years that I've used my computer for a purchase my account gets stolen. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

[Question] Would a Macbook 12 2016 - 8gb be ok for submitting apps to the AppStore?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 10:56 AM PST

I apologise in advance if this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find any specific information on this. I am developing applications with Unity. I have a good windows laptop, which can handle everything, but I need a Mac in order to submit the applications to the AppStore. I found a pretty sweet deal for a Macbook 12 from 2016 with 8gb ram and 256ssd. I just wanted to ask if anyone has used it for this and could let me know if it would do the job? If not, could you please recommend one that would be ok for this? I've never owned a Mac before, so I don't really know what to look for.

    Edit: spelling

[QUESTION] Can a USB Wifi Dongle help me get 1000Mbps on my 2012 Macbook?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 10:53 AM PST

I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro. I recently got a fiber connection to my house (woohoo), but alas, even though I pay for 1,000 Mbps, my Mac can only manage about 200-300. Can a USB dongle (like the Edimax Wi-Fi USB) help me improve my speeds, or am I stuck?

[OS X] MacBook Air (2019) won’t recover OS X via internet recovery after downgrade from catalina to mojave

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 08:59 AM PST

    Hello r/MacBook

I bought my first MacBook Air 2019 a few months back and i am/was very happy with it. I upgraded it from the initial Mac OS Mojave to Catalina and instantly regretted doing so... Well i wanted to downgrade it back to Mojave via a bootable drive after i backed up all my data on an external hard drive. After i did downgraded the OS and 'apparently recovered my data' via the first launch and start up of Mojave, i was surprised that none of my previous data was on the MacBook itself. So i wanted to boot back into the Recovery Menu with CMD+R but all i ever got into was the internet recovery menu. I tried again a couple of times and after a while i couldn't even boot up the MacBook properly to login at all (which previously worked just fine).

So now i'm stuck with Internet recovery which won't even properly load/work because after the download bar is full it says 'apple/support -2003F' and i am unable to boot from a external hard drive, even with OPTION key held down during start up. Did i brick my Mac...? I would love some help from you guys and gals here, thank you in advance! (If i left any questions unanswered please say so, i will reply fairly fast!)

Anyone have luck with the macbook adaptors for the thunderports?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 07:53 AM PST

I bought a 2017 Macbook Pro and needed to buy an adaptor to connect my usb for my drawing tablet, HDMI for my second computer monitor and usb for my mouse. I've bought 2 different adaptors so far and they either didn't work or don't work well (keeps disconnecting and connecting). I bought both of them on ebay and amazon. The first one for $15 and then next for $35 after I assumed paying more would solve the problem (surprise - it didn't). The products had good reviews. This is very frustrating. Anyone nailed this down? #thunderports.

Weird step that I can't get past, when setting up a used MacBook on an erased disk.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 03:53 AM PST

Hey, I've had a secondhand MacBook Pro 2015 13" for about a year now. When I got it, I just put my previous time machine backup on without any problem.

I'm trying to do a clean install right now, and I have some problems. I went to recovery and erased the disk with disk utility. Then I installed the OS (Mojave). After that, I went on with setting up the macbook. Then after the "connect to wifi" step, this popped up. Now, everything you'll se will be in my language, because I can't change this weird default language ( Czech (USA) ) no matter what I do. I'll always translate everything on screen.

    It says:

    Remote Control

Remote control allows the administrator of Stripe, Inc to set up email addresses, internet accounts, to install and configure applications, and to change the computer settings.

Stripe, Inc" can set up your computer automatically

Then there is a link saying: More information about remote control

If you click the link, this pops up.

    It says:

Stripe, Inc, IT, 3180 18th St, 94110 San Francisco, USA

Remote control allows the administrator of Stripe, Inc control your computer remotely.

It also allows the administrator to set up email addresses, internet accounts, to install and configure applications and to change the computer settings.

Thanks to remote control, the administrator of Stripe, Inc can turn off functions, install and remove applications, monitor and restrict your internet activities and erase your computer remotely.

You can use the contact information above to get information about what will the administrator of Stripe, Inc do with your computer specifically.

When I click continue on this step a loading wheel will appear with the text: Retrieving enrollment profile.

After a while, this error message will pop up:

    Enrolling with management server failed.

Couldn't connect to the MDM server of your organization.

I have never seen this, and have no idea what it could be. I also cannot get past this step. I've tried booting from a time machine HDD of my other MacBook and installing Catalina from there, but the same thing came up. I also tried unmounting the Base OS X disk and installing from internet recovery, but the same thing happened.

Anyone has any clue what this could be, and how to resolve it? Thank you.

Anyone find a reliable/comfortable workaround for the dongle issue?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 05:40 AM PST

I've got a 2017 Macbook Pro, and I've got two different solutions. Neither are ideal. I can either take off my nice UAG laptop case and use a little rectangular port thing with all my USB ports and whatnot, or I can put the nice case on and use a similar port rectangle but this one has a slight dongle so it can actually be plugged in when the case is on. It hangs to the side all ugly-like. The nicer rectangle port box looks better but won't work with the case because it won't plug all the way in since the case gets in the way.

Anyone find a comfortable/reasonable solution? This whole dongle debacle is a dead horse, but dammit I'm gonna beat it cuz it annoys the hell out of me.
