Reviewing the Uogic Stylus and comparing it to the Apple Pencil Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:00 AM PST Hey everyone! Today I want to review a possible alternative to the Apple Pencil - the Uogic Stylus. I own an Apple Pencil, but was offered to test this one. It was great to receive it, but this won't bias my opinion at all, in the following you can read my real opinion about it as detailed as possible. Let's dive right in: Package: The package is similar with the typical Apple package. Looks good, nothing wrong here. The charging cable is put in a separate piece of paper, together with the manual. Feeling: When unwrapping, it looked good, but nothing like the Apple Pencil. Compared to the real Apple Pencil, it feels a bit lighter, a bit thinner and overall a bit cheaper. It costs only a quarter of an Apple Pencil though and for that price it's alright! Now let's get to what surprised me the most: The feeling when writing. Many people use Paperlike on the iPad to imitate writing on real paper. I don't do that, because I feel like the „real" writing experience is nothing I'd seek for. But when testing this stylus, I actually really enjoyed that it felt more natural. The tip is smaller and the pencil thinner and overall it felt more like writing with a real pen. I'd go as far and say that I prefer. the writing experience with this one over the Apple Pencil - can't speak for drawing or similar stuff, but for taking notes, I really like it. Connectivity: But here's why I will still stick to the Apple Pencil. While writing with the stylus is really fun and I thought about changing to the stylus, the connectivity of the Apple Pencil is unbeatable (not surprising, given the fact that it was made originally by Apple for their own product). I'm so used to double tapping on my Pencil that I do it all the time to switch between the eraser and pen tool. This is something I can't do with the stylus, because it's not connected via Bluetooth. It is just a stylus. What I like on the other hand though, is that I can turn bluetooth off and I'm still able to write with the stylus. The stylus has to be activated to write with it - otherwise you can hold it on the surface and nothing happens. I don't really know how this works, because, as I said, there is no bluetooth connection. But somehow it works. Charging: Again, the real Pencil is unbeatable. Just slap it on the top of your iPad and it charges automatically. It's super convenient. Unfortunately, the stylus can't do this. You have to charge it via USB. I didn't own an Apple Pencil of the first generation, but I'm aware that you have to charge that one via USB as well. So compared to the Apple Pencil 2, it would definitely annoy me. As far as I know, the real Apple Pencil is the only device which can charge by sticking it on top of the iPad though. Colors: While the Apple Pencil is available in white only, the stylus is available in black too. Cool option and the black one (the model I received) looks good. No issues here. Price: Here we have one winner, obviously. The Uogic is way cheaper than the Apple Pencil. Conclusion: If you don't want to spend a lot of money for a stylus, I'd say this is the device for you. It works really well, it doesn't need to be connected via Bluetooth and the feeling overall is really great. For taking notes (my use case) it's an excellent writing experience. If you didn't use an Apple Pencil before, you won't miss that double tap to switch between tools. If you did, however, that might be an issue that's going to bother you. Overall, I didn't have high expectations and was really surprised when I tested it. The feeling is great, the price is good and you can take notes perfectly. If you need that double tap function or bigger lines when tilting the Pencil, then you might need to spend more and buy the real Apple Pencil. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:35 PM PST I'm sure you've never heard this question before...;-) I'm looking for a 10" plus tablet to stream movies/TV shows/sports, read books, and browse the web. Those will be my 3 most likely uses but I wouldn't mind drawing a bit too. I currently have an iPhone XS and have had many iPhones in the past so I have many apps. I've decided that an iPad is probably the best bet for longevity and quality - however, which should I get? My big issue is - the idea of an iPad bending irks me so much to the point that I might be better off without one. Even with AppleCare, what happens if the iPad bends after the warranty is up? Out of luck. I just wish these devices were made properly and not so fragile. I'd keep it in a case and be ultra careful with it anyway, I've never broken a phone, never use screen protectors, and have never had AppleCare. All of my phones are always fine, *knock on wood*. So, do I wait for the new iPad Pro line to be released in 2020 and hope they're made of more durable materials? Are iPad Air 3's more durable than iPad Pros? Also, I understand that MOST iPads, even ones that have been tossed, laid on, dropped, etc., are not bent nor broke. That's anecdotal, however. I have been obsessing over this for a day now trying to figure out what to do, all I know is I'd really like tablet. Or, do I buy a $150 Amazon Kindle HD 10 and sideload missing Google apps on it? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Am I the only one who finds the YouTube apps share->copy functionality not working? Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:38 PM PST I'm just trying to share YouTube links on whatsapp, it never seems to work. Earlier I was able to click "paste and go" in safari and copy the link from Safari and share it on whatsapp now even that seemed to stop working [link] [comments]

Need to choose about book’s rights. Posted: 06 Jan 2020 01:35 PM PST Hello folks, I have a weird question but honestly I found little help on the internet so I'm asking reddit hive mind. University book, I can buy the ebook version for few money and as I study a lot on my iPad I'd gladly buy the ebook over the standard one (saving over 160€, incredible deal) The problem is I can choose between an ebook [epub+pdf] protected with adobe DRM or an ebook that I can only access through an app called bookshelf I saw that I can read "adobe drm protected files" through a reader called blue fire which seems to have a lot of problem and even cost 5€, but I know nothing about this app, I don't even know if Apple Pencil is supported (I like to write, highlight and do stuff on pdfs when studying) and bookshelf's seems to be similar, I don't see anything about Apple Pencil support nor any updated info. So in the end the question is, bookshelf or an adobe drm text? If you said adobe drm, should I pay for bluefire reader or the acrobat is good? Does it work offline as a lot of time I don't have an internet connection? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2020 01:16 PM PST Seems like every other stylus uses capacitative tech, which doesn't have palm rejection technology. Are there any alternatives to the Adonit Pixel? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2020 12:56 PM PST Im using an Ipad in school and was wondering wether i should by a paperlike screen protector or not. Someone here who has every used it and can rate it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:39 AM PST I run a small business and do pop up shops and local delivery. I have been using my personal iPad to accept credit cards at pop ups, map out delivery routes/gps and also have Shopify admin open to mark orders delivered etc. I want a mini because my iPad Pro is clumsy to do this and prefer to keep my $900 pro reserved for home use. I can get a mini 4 for $299 refurbished or mini 5 brand new for $519. Is there a huge difference while using both with the new iPad OS? All of the things above will usually be done at the same time so I'm sure the mini 5 would multitask smoother, but $220 smoother? [link] [comments]
Cellular calls / SMS without relay: How many people would like to have this feature? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 08:24 PM PST Apple decided to segment the iPhone and iPad by not allowing cellular calls and SMS on the latter. The only option to have those on the iPad is to use the relay function on an iPhone. I'm curious: How many people here would actually like the iPad to support cellular calls and SMS natively without an iPhone as a relay in between? As for myself, I haven't owned a phone since 2013 and have been using VoIP apps on the iPad instead which usually do a good job, but there are times when falling back to cellular would be useful. The feature being available on Android tablets and the fact that telephony could be unlocked on the first iPad via jailbreak once upon a time shows that this is not a hard limitation but simply a design decision that Apple could change one day. Unknown Background Process on iPad Pro 12.9 Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:03 AM PST I have owned iPads since the first and this has me perplexed. My iPad Pro (newest model) shows the spinning circle next to the wi-fi signal all the time. I have no idea what it is doing. I assume it is downloading a movie I may have bought but I don't know how to check it. iTunes Store used to have a "what is currently downloading" section but I don't see that anymore. I'm also certain it isn't doing a backup. It is starting to drive me crazy, It is chewing battery I'm sure and would love to be able to stop it. Is there a list of things I can check to stop it. Recommendation for a good OCR app - Want to digitize my paper notebooks Posted: 05 Jan 2020 07:48 PM PST Hey everyone! I have a habit of carrying my notebook around to scribble down notes and have a collection of notebooks now. I picked up an iPad Air 3 and an Apple Pencil this October and have since completely shifted to note taking using GoodNotes. I now want to run an OCR process on a few of my tech notes and digitize them so they're on the iPad. Is there an app recommendation that I can use to get this done nice and quick? OCR as text instead of plain PDF images would be preferred as text is always more searchable. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2020 12:46 AM PST Is it normal that it is hard to plug the charger in and out of ipad pro 3rd gen??? Plugging in is somewhat okay, but I have to use some strength to plug out. It's been only a week since I bought the ipad. [link] [comments]

iPad Disabled, Connect to iTunes Posted: 05 Jan 2020 03:03 PM PST My sister's friend's iPad received that screen "randomly" (that's what I was told) and they don't know how to fix it. I researched the issue and found the resolution of turning it of, pressing the home and power button together while the iPad is plugged into a Mac or PC, and it should prompt a restore or upgrade. My sister did both options and nothing changed. Even with the restoration the iPad is still disabled. How do they resolve the issue? Edit: This is what they've done and what the situation looks like. Edit 2: DFU mode did not work either [link] [comments] |
