Iphone 11 battery health at 98% Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:17 PM PST Purchased the device two months ago. Battery was at 99% last week and as of today, 98%. Anyone else experiencing this as I don't think it's normal. Has anyone spoke to Apple about this? [link] [comments] |
Change minimize behavior so that command+tab works without chording option? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:24 PM PST In case you're not sure by the title: press window frame yellow button (minimize?) and then try to command+tab, in Windows and most Linux environments the previous window will be brought up. In macOS that window is made active but it isn't visible. To make it visible, you need to command+tab then release only tab and then press option before releasing command. Is there some setting to make macOS behave like everyone else? Perhaps an elusive Also curious if anyone sees the point in this, I do not see any value in it. Oh also any option to make non-option green button (maximize?) maximize within context of the menu bar and dock and not do full screen? Sometimes I want to maximize but I never want to full screen. edit: should point out I know about command+h to hide stuff [link] [comments] |
So both of my computers are acting unresponsive as of this morning. Posted: 01 Jan 2020 01:27 PM PST Is anyone else running into this issue? Both my machines running the latest Catalina release have become almost completely unresponsive. It seems like a hell of a coincidence. Hardware checks seem ok as well as disk first aid. Spotify keeps closing in the background Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:20 PM PST I have been having trouble with my previous iPhone 8 Plus and now my new Xs closing Spotify in the background. Whenever I jump in the car and try to stream music via Bluetooth I have to open up Spotify and manually hit play. This never used to be an issue and only started happening when I came back to Spotify after trialling Apple Music for a few months. I have deleted Apple Music from the phone and the problem persists. Any advice would be appreciated! iPhone Xs on 13.3 [link] [comments] |
Does the Apple Store Accept Visa Gift Cards? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:55 PM PST So not a hardware or software question but hopefully this is still an okay spot to ask this. Can you purchase an Apple Store card with a Visa Gift Card? I'm trying to use credit card reward points toward an Apple Store purchase. Right now the only way that seems possible is redeeming points for Amazon gift cards, using those for Visa Gift Cards, and then using that for Apple Store gift cards. Seems crazy, and I'm not even sure it would work, but I haven't really come up with anything else. My credit card company does have App & iTunes gift cards, but Apple won't guarantee those can be converted to Apple Store gift cards. [link] [comments] |
My iPad won’t turn on or charge Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:29 PM PST My iPad won't turn on or charge. I've tried some methods and charging it a little more and it still doesn't turn on. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Can dropping a macbook cause battery swelling? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 05:05 PM PST I dropped my Macbook air 13" on new years day (day) and everything works fine except that the trackpad no longer clicks. I'm located remotely until Monday so can't get it check out at the Apple store until then. I have tap to click on so I can still use it in the mean time. After doing some research I'm a little worried that the battery might have swollen, as apparently this can cause the trackpad to stop working. I can't see any physical signs of swelling at all, it looks totally normal. Would it be very obvious? I really need to use it if possible as I have a lot of deadlines coming up before I can get it fixed, but obviously safety first. Can dropping a mac cause the battery to swell or is it more likely to be that the tuning screw is misaligned? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:03 AM PST Just to expand a little, about 5 years ago the screen died but the computer still worked so since then I've used my tv as a monitor and the Mac works fine. I've just got a MacBook and wanted to get rid of the Mac, so I've signed out of everything and wanted to wipe it. The Mac to tv screen only works on the desktop and normal apps, once you try and play a game or something that changes the resolution it won't display it, and that's the case for restarting it and holding cmd and R for the disk utility stuff. It says you can do it over the internet by holding shift, cmd, R but it still comes up as a grey screen on the TV and I can't access anything. Is there another way to do it from the desktop? I want to sell it on eBay for parts but I'd rather wipe it before it goes anywhere [link] [comments] |
Compatible external thumb- and hard-drives not recognized Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:17 PM PST External thumb- and hard-drives not showing up on my Mac Earlier today I tried to connect my external hard-drive (that I've used plenty of times before on my current 2017 MacBook Pro running on 10.14) and it wouldn't recognize the drive. Not know what to do next, I unplugged the drive and as soon as I did, the drive appeared on my computer, but without any data inside of it. I then attempted to see if my computer would recognize a thumb-drive that has nothing on it and had the same exact issue as before. Could someone please help explain Whether this might be an issue with either my computer, my hard drive, or if there may be corrupted data on either device? Thank you in advance [link] [comments] |
Years after purchasing used MBP on Craigslist, it's now showing device enrolment prompts... Posted: 01 Jan 2020 01:22 AM PST I purchased a used MBP on CL back in 2016. I wiped the device as soon as I got home, and no "device enrolment" popups were present from the time of purchase until a few days ago. Recently, I sold it after wiping it clean. I used the network recovery installer instead of a regular USB / DVD installer, if that matters. As the buyer set up his account, he noted that the device is now asking for device enrolment from a North American computer store. This popup shows up repeatedly. Doing some googling, people are saying that the message can indicate a lost or stolen device - but were that the case, I doubt it would take over three years show up... Something feels amiss here. I'm not sure what to do, but I have no idea how to track down the original owner and it's not in my possession anymore. I can help the buyer disable the notifications using guides online - but if possible I'd like the device properly removed from whatever policy is enforcing these notifications so that it's settled. If anyone has experienced this issue or knows what I should do, I would very much appreciate your input. [link] [comments] |

What second-hand/used Mac vendors can you recommend? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 05:54 PM PST I'm looking to buy a second-hand Mac (something like a Macbook Air). If you have purchased a second-hand/used Mac from a vendor, would you mind sharing your experience? (I'm not looking to buy refurbished). [link] [comments] |
Macbook wont turn on without charger, and I cant log in Posted: 01 Jan 2020 05:37 PM PST Hi. I just encountered this problem with my Macbook Pro, model number A1398. It won't turn on unless I have my charger plugged in, and when it starts, I notice the battery icon has a caution (triangle with a !). After some research I figure this might be a battery service issue, but I can't seem to find a resolution. Also, every time I try to enter my password to log into my account, the computer just resets entirely, so I cant look at any computer details or diagnostics. Any suggestions or help would he greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Possible to start up from external ssd Drive? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 05:05 PM PST I have a late 2012 mini and its starting to slow down on me. Ram is maxed out and I'm trying to get 3-5 more years out of it if possible since I don't really use this all that much. This computer is mainly used to do some word processing, web surfing and holds all of my media from iTunes. Can I move the operating system to an external ssd and boot from that? I'm not too good with computers so trying to switch out the old hard drive and replace it with a ssd is more than I'm comfortable with. Any suggestions on what SSD to get would be great. Also looking to place all of my media on this drive as well since my old sea gate external hard drive that had all of my media just died on me. [link] [comments] |
Help or advice with downgrading OS (without ext.drive?) needed for a recent convert from Windows Posted: 01 Jan 2020 04:05 PM PST Hello all, forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place or if it is a dumb question: I bought a 2012 MacBook pro off of a friend and it has been working wonderfully - a million times better than my newest Windows PC, which I got in 2018 I think it was. I am a musician and music student and bought it because I was so taken with Logic pro. Anyway, I have had it for a year or so, but only dared to make it my main computer very recently, and put off the new OS update until a week ago or so. I didn't realize until after the fact that it seemed to be a rather significant update. ...and it seems to have been. I have a lot of problems since I updated; Shorter battery life, the computer works more slowly and freezes more frequently, it becomes INCREDIBLY hot at times, searing hot, strange colour issues with the screen, and worst of all, Logic barely works anymore. The only way I can run it is if I unplug all external hardware; audio interface(s) and midi controller(s), then if it successfully boots, plug one in at the time and wait until it is ready before proceeding with the next. Then I have to sort of "ease" it into playback, where it -will- freeze many times. If I accidentally do two things at the same time, like press R and accidentally hit the "E" key, opening up the piano roll, the program seizes completely and must be force quit, and I have to repeat the whole tedious process. I am aware that it is an old computer, but I have never had these issues before - I mixed all my exams and "produced" all my demos on this computer without incident, and without having to kill any buses or heavy vsts like keyscape or nothing during. I would like to downgrade to the previous OS, and from reading about it, it seems to be pretty complicated and requires an external disk. I'm still very much a mac noob, and my disks are formatted for windows - the long and short of it is that I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do it, and if there is a way to do it where I don't need to buy external disks and to reinstall all my software - I'm not trying to be a knob and stingy with money or nothing, but having bought a 2012 macbook in late 2018 surely is indicative of my financial standing (or lack thereof) - just hoping there's another way, and one that I understand...! Any answer and advice is appreciated. I am in Norway, if that matters. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Trying to use Hotspot with Switch - Not Working Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:59 AM PST Hello all, I recently moved to a rural area with only DSL internet available, but surprisingly good cell reception. Usually when gaming I would use the DSL since it's pretty snappy, but when my wife is home and is on the television watching Netflix online gaming becomes untenable due to lag. I thought an easy solution would be to try to connect my Switch to a mobile hotspot - Smash Bros takes up very little data and I have unlimited hotspot thru Verizon anyway. However, the Switch will not connect to the network no matter what I do. I've tried inputting the information in the manual setup portion of the console, still nothing. The iPhone hotspot has very little easy modification, it seems, so unlike an Android I can't try to mess around with settings to see if different bands or security types would get along better. That is, unless you fine folks know of a way to do such a thing (that's within Apple's guidelines of course)? My laptop connects to the network just fine, no issues. I've heard the Switch might like 5ghz connections better than 2.4 but like I said, no idea how to change that. Any thoughts would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
7th Gen Nano won't connect to Windows 10 anymore Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:27 PM PST I've been using my 7th gen iPod Nano on Windows 10 with iTunes for years. A little while ago, iTunes stopped letting me purchase new songs in the store. Today I updated iTunes, and now my Nano won't connect at all. It doesn't even charge when plugged into my PC. I've tried resetting the Nano and the PC multiple times. I've read that Apple is no longer supporting iPods, but is there any way to connect it so I can still put songs on it? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Air not recognising keyboard/touchpad in MacOS but OK with Linux and Windows Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:14 PM PST My macbook air is not detecting the keyboard when in MacOS but is fine in Windows/Linux or in some bootup modes. Its a strange case as I'd assume it is not a hardware problem given it works sometimes, but resetting/reinstalling software isn't helping. Full details are: 1) All normal in 'choose boot device' mode (using 'alt/option' key on startup). I can choose which device to boot with using either keyboard or touchpad. After this step, either booting into MacOS or to a recovery USB, they stop working. 2) All normal in diagnostics/AHT mode (using 'd' key on startup), no errors reported. I can use the keyboard/touchpad to select a language and initiate the test. 3) Inputs not recognised when trying recovery mode ('cmd+r' on startup). 4) Inputs not recognised in MacOS itself, even when booting from an external SSD with a confirmed working OS on it. 5) Inputs not working in Safe mode ('shift+control+alt/option' on startup). 6) Inputs and laptop generally are normal when booting from an Ubuntu live/trial USB 7) The machine is a Macbook Air A1466 2015 with the i7 processor and 8gb RAM. I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM/NVRAM but it made no difference. If anyone knows why it would work under some conditions and not others with possible fixes I'd be very grateful. My last resort either to use it as a linux machine or give it away as a bootcamp/windows machine but ideally I'd like to get it working normally as a mac. [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro mid 2012 Battery question Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:09 PM PST Hi, Happy New Year! So I bought this macbook pro laptop used on craigslist to use this upcoming year for school, I'm checking the battery and the temperature looks high but I'm not an expert. Could someone please look in the screenshot and tell me if the battery temperature is okay or not, I saw a video on YouTube and the guy doing the battery test has a much lower temperature so I'm thinking maybe theres something wrong with mine. Could someone tell me what temp is dangerous (overheating) and also when it's a good time for me to get the battery replacement? When I bought this laptop, the girl said that the laptop warns that the battery needs service but for some reason I'm able to use the laptop without a charge and so far it's been okay and i have not ran into any batter service warnings like the have mentioned. Airport Express flashing yellow after updating settings Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:18 AM PST My airport express in my bedroom disappeared from my network earlier. I've reset the box completely and was able to set it up again. I use my AE to extend my 5Ghz network not my 2.4, so when it was setup I edited the settings to change which network it was extended. It reset as normal and has just gone back to a flashing yellow light again. This happens each time I do those steps. It worked fine before and the one in my kitchen works as expected with the same details, any ideas? [link] [comments] |
