After years of windows laptops, I splurged and got a 2019 MacBook Pro for $800 on Craigslist! Posted: 26 Dec 2019 02:18 PM PST I figured that I was tired of having a windows laptop for only 1-2 years at a time, and I've heard that MacBooks last forever. I got the 128gb 2019 MacBook Pro core i5 8 gb of ram. (I have a portable hard drive, and I have a main desktop for all of my data) I'm on dev ops on my team and I go to school for computer science, and MacBooks are top notch! Found a deal on Craigslist, basically new 2019 MacBook Pro, he needed it gone before Xmas, bought it for only $800! [link] [comments]
MacBook pro 16 inch i9 battery life Posted: 26 Dec 2019 11:22 PM PST I've recently bought the new MBP 16 inch with the i9 processor (the 2.4 GHz version) and so far I am very happy with the overall performance and experience (I'm mostly using it for development). From what I've managed to see these few days, battery life seems to be around 4 hours (maybe 4.5) with Spotify, Edge browser, Visual Studio Code, some terminal instances and Station (see the app here) running non-stop. Since this is the i9 mode, I am thinking that CPU is obviously more "hungry", so it consumes more battery overall (even in light-to-moderate use) I am curios about your experience with regards to the battery life on the i9 model. Am I having a bad experience, or is it normal? [link] [comments]

First time Macbook owner, impressions and question. (hope you don't mind) Posted: 26 Dec 2019 08:41 AM PST My job gave ma a MacBook Pro, even though I'm a 100% Linux guy and I protested loudly... :) (16G i7-9750) So after a month, here are my impressions: The good:
The not so good:
OSX: To me, it's just another GUI environment, and I'm sure I will customize it to my liking in time. It's not better or worse than KDE, Windows or Gnome, just different. I've installed brew and zsh, so it is basically very Linux-like. Most of my tools are of course available, databases, IDE's and the usual *nix tools. I need to get used to the command keys. My keyboard layout is Icelandic, and I usually write '@' with Alt-Q on Windows/Linux, and I don't know how many times I've quit programs when writing an email address. :) I'm still looking for a quick image viewer/editor. Something that allows me the browse image folder and make quick adjustments. Any recommendations? Also, lightweight editor. Most of the time I just use vim, but I would like some nice GUI version with basic features. I expect to see you more in 2020. :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Dec 2019 02:50 PM PST I had my mbp 13 inch screen replaced and now there is a strange issue where sometimes upon turning it on the lowest part of the screen is black but will receive color if i drag a white window down, the line of the damage will increase vertically over time over a few days of use, but if i leave the laptop completely off for a few days the line goes away and the screen returns to normal. ??? Multiport connectivity problems? Posted: 26 Dec 2019 02:27 PM PST So I have the 16in-MBP running Catalina and just bought an IntelliArmor LynkHubHD+ multiport adapter because of obvious reasons. When I connect my Microsoft Arc Mouse to the adapter via USB 3.0 (it has a little USB thingy to which it connects wirelessly) it doesn't work, even though I use it on a non-glass surface. I plugged the same mouse into another MBP that supports USB 3.0 and works perfectly. Has anyone encountered similar problems with adapters and/or wireless mouses? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Dec 2019 09:56 AM PST I'm sorry since this have been asked multiple times, but I'd like to ask for my specific scenario. I have a MBP 13" mid 2012 16GB RAM 500GB SSD that I've had for 7 years now. It works like a charm but the battery doesn't last as long, I find it heavy, fans spin like crazy and it heats a lot. On 2020 I'll start working on a research project and starting a masters degree. I saved a little money thinking on buying a new MacBook. Where I'm from (Chile, SA) there's no Apple Store and they're expensive (not many discounts either). I saw a store selling a base MBA 2019 for U$1140 USD (it usually is at $1340 on most stores). I was wondering, would it be enough the base MBA for: - Statistics software like IBM SPSS, R statistics - Office suite - Multitasking (I usually have Safari with ~10 tabs, Music, Word, Excel and Mail running at the same time) I have an external 128GB SSD and a 500GB HDD to use for backup. I don't think I use too much disk space since I have lots of stuff on the cloud as well. So my options are: - Buy the base MBA 2019 for discounted $1140 usd (haven't seen it go any lower) - Try and save up for the base MBP 2019 (at $1480 usd) - Wait and keep using my current MBP Thanks in advance! If you ever wonder why MacBook Air throttle a lot... Posted: 26 Dec 2019 12:26 PM PST https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiCBYAP_Sgg MacBook Air 2018 and 2019 does not have a proper cooling system. Just a heat sink with a meaningless cooling fan. A fan does not cool down the CPU. It just pull airs out of it and it's not even efficient. Oh yeah, previous versions of MacBook Air had a proper cooling system with a heat pipe! Clearly, Apple is joking on us. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Dec 2019 08:27 AM PST Hi, I know this is kinda of an overused question, but I'd like your opinion on whether I should get a MBP 13 or 15. This is the 2019 edition. So, my wife is gifting me either a MBP 13 or a MBP 15 with i9 and AMD 560X. She has got a discount from her employer that she can only use in a specific store and these two are the only options for sale there (that's why I can only chose between these). I want to be considerate to her, because this is a very expensive gift, so I don't wanna take the MBP 15 just because it's the overall better one. I have my own desktop computer and I game in it. If I would game in the MBP, would be League of Legends and probably 1 out 10 times. The Radeon 560X is really seducing me, but I'm not sure I will be using quite that much horsepower overall. Most of my time I will be browsing, reading articles and remoting into Linux servers. I can't quite decide yet, to be honest, I like the idea of the 13 being lighter and smaller, but I also like the idea of the i9 + a discrete GPU. Thoughts? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Broken main screen ; How to factory restore without any issues? Posted: 26 Dec 2019 01:41 AM PST So my MacBook pro screen is cracked and i can barely see anything on it. Right now i am running two monitors from it but I am looking to factory reset it. I am afraid that my external monitors which i am connected to won't display anything during the reset. Is there anyway to factory reset properly with a totally blacked out main screen on the MacBook pro? I don't want to have to fish for the dialog boxes when i reset it bcus that would be such a hassle. thanks! [link] [comments] |
