Found an ipad air with lte, how do I find its owner? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:18 PM PST About a week ago, I came home from work at 3 AM (I'm a bartender) and found this ipad just laying in my front lawn. I know that sounds sketchy but it's true. Next morning, I ask my roommates if it's theirs and they say its not but that a bunch of kids were busted pulling car handles and looting them with cops and the whole 9 around 1 AM. I call the cops after that and leave a message saying I think this ipad may be related to the event and leave my info. They don't call back so I call again and leave another message. Still no response. I forgot about the thing until I got back from visiting family out of town. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. Can I take it to apple, is there a way to make it call the iphone that's synced with its icloud (text message notifications keep popping up but I can't read them since I don't have the pin)? Any insight would be helpful. Update: iPad was synced with iCloud so it started getting texts when I turned it on after charging and text a number that appeared. Found the owner. Thanks anyway! Airpods Stuttering on Windows 10 + Loud Connection Noise Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:18 PM PST Recently got Airpods (2nd Gen) this week. Really love having wireless and comfortable headphones for the first time, but have two issues. ISSUE 1 - Stuttering Sound On my Windows 10 laptop, my Airpods make a slight stutter/crackling noise approximately every 20 seconds which is a bit annoying. It is enough to miss a whole word whilst watching a podcast for example. Note: The stuttering does not occur on my Samsung Galaxy S9 (Android). ISSUE 2 - Loud Connection Noise When connecting/disconnecting my Airpods to Windows 10 or my Android Phone, there is an extremely loud connection noise (a badung sound). The first 3-4 times I connected/disconnected the Airpods, the connection noise was at a reasonable level, but for some reason it has now increased to a painful level. Is there any way to reduce the connection noise level to what it was before? Some Fixes I Have Tried
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: I have already submitted this to /r/Airpods [link] [comments] |
How can I tell if my AirPods have been swapped? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:03 PM PST I have a feeling that my sister swapped my AirPods with hers (just the AirPods, not the case). I own AirPods gen 2 and she owns the first ones. Is there a way that I can be sure if my AirPods have been swapped? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:27 AM PST Hopefully my title makes sense. The way Firefox handles your previously viewed URL/ pages is far more optimal especially when trying to review a forum thread which has several dozen pages. By example, if I went to: www.motorcycletalk.com/ridingtechniques/throttle management/page1.html and viewed pages 1, 2, 3, ....78. If I wanted to review a page at a much later date, on Firefox, I would type in the address bar "motorcycletalk - ridingtech" and immediately the address bar would unfurl the full url with each page number listed in sequential order below - ie *www.motorcycletalk.com/ridingtechniques/throttle management/page1.html *www.motorcycletalk.com/ridingtechniques/throttle management/page2.html *www.motorcycletalk.com/ridingtechniques/throttle management/page3.html Etc etc. Which for my use case makes directly clicking into the last viewed page very easy or finding a page I wanted to reference quickly easy. On Safari, it's far more difficult. If I type in the same key string, Safari would unfurl the urls but cut off the most important information - the pagination. Safari displays it as: *Motorcycletalk - 2 Wheeled News & Updates www.motorcycletalk.com/ridingtech.... *Motorcycletalk - 2 Wheeled News & Updates www.motorcycletalk.com/ridingtech.... Which leaves me to randomly guess what URL is the latest or the last one. If you select the wrong one too many times it has a nasty penchant for always making the one you selected the first result. “The disk wasn’t ejected because one or more programs may be using it” Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:53 PM PST So, basically this new problem all of a sudden appeared while using my external hard drive (Samsung t5, ssd). I can't eject it. I've tried apples recommendations to log out/log in, restart and even turn the computer off. But nothing is working. I mean, of course I could just force eject it, but that can't be too good, or just turn the Mac off and eject it while it's shut down - but that will be super time consuming. I've already watched the activity monitor but that didn't make me any wiser. I've heard someone mentioning something about Time Machine, but I don't know how that works and I can't seem to find any answers to how that will help me in this particular situation. Computer: MacBook Pro, 16 inch. SSD: Samsung t5. Anyone got a clue? Super thankful for any advice. [link] [comments] |
[Mac] Can't Reset Admin Password, Even Though I Know It Posted: 28 Dec 2019 05:03 PM PST Hello, I'm fairly new to macOS, so bare with me. I recently bought a second hand Macbook Pro 15" 2015, and besides some initial mistakes on my part from not being used to the OS, the system has been pretty perfect. But now I am looking to change the password on my main, and only user account. It is an admin account, and the password is known to me. However reseting it normally through User & Groups menu throws me an error message stating:
So I tried enabling the root user, logging in as it, and when i try to change the password, it again doesn't work and now simply says
(or something very simple and short like that, I only have the first one in front of me to copy accuratly). Now whilst this problem, isn't really a problem, given it doesn't affect anything, I would still like to be able to get to the bottom of this. If need be I will probably just do a hard reset on everything with a fresh install of macOS, though I'd rather not. So any help or guidance would be much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
iPhone XS screen unresponsive to the touch, still able to receive notifications and calls Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:45 PM PST I was snowboarding at Niseko and went to the ski lodge to take a break and have some lunch when I realized my screen became unresponsive to the touch. I was still able to receive notifications and even receive calls but when I try to touch the screen, nothing happens at all. I tried doing the force reset and it still doesn't work. I should mention that while I was snowboarding, I put the phone in my pants pocket so maybe the phone could've been too cold to function, right? I tried to put the phone next to a fireplace to try to warm it up but to no avail. Now, I am thinking about connecting my iPhone to iTunes to do a factory reset or just simply bringing it to a genius bar because I still have a warranty. But, I just still want to know what the cause of this issue could be. [link] [comments] |

Can someone please explain the notes database? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:14 PM PST I have a macbook here running high sierra. Neither time machine nor iCloud were on. The OS stores a database of notes at ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.notes in one of the files: NoteStore.sqlite, NoteStore.sqlite-shm, or NoteStore.sqlite-wal. I looked inside NoteStore.sqlite using a sql viewer but didn't see anything resembling a note.

Quicktime Recovery for a Deleted File that was already saved Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:08 PM PST Hi, sorry if someone's already posted something like this. I was working with a quicktime file that was saved to my desktop successfully and while I was editing, Quicktime crashed and deleted the file. The file simply no longer exists anywhere on my computer. There was never any error message. I was saving the file after editing and I clicked "cancel save" because it was taking much longer than expected and as soon as I did that Quicktime crashed and my file was gone. I know it's pretty weird but the apple support line couldn't explain it and said there was no way to recover it. There is no external drive and the file was way too big for iCloud. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions including but not limited to recovery software that isn't a ripoff or a scam. I know it's a long shot but I really need this file. I'm running macOS Catalina 10.15.2 on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro. Thanks a bunch. EDIT: marked as solved [link] [comments] |
Date of purchase and Applecare does not match. Did I get a returned item? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:41 PM PST Hi guys So I bought an apple watch 12/28 in store at Best Buy . I went home and bought apple care online. But it says on my applecare that the date of purchase for my watch was on 12/26. Did I get a returned item? I don't think it's fair I pay full price for something that has been returned. Could this be just a glitch? Thanks [link] [comments] |
MacBook plugged in but won’t turn on Posted: 28 Dec 2019 05:58 PM PST MacBook plugged in but won't turn on. Screen indicates a low battery symbol. I do not recall my MacBook going through any damages lately so I don't know why it suddenly is not charging/ turning on? It's been plugged in for the last 50 mins and still won't turn on. What could be the problem here? [link] [comments] |

Issue with my iPhone 7 making calls and using the microphone and headphone jack. Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:39 PM PST So some time yesterday my phone randomly said I needed to update my cellular settings before I could get service, restarted my phone a couple times and it went a way, but since then I guess theirs something wrong with my speaker, when making calls it won't let me even select speaker options but I can't hear anything or say anything. Also my Shazam app and Siri aren't working along with my headphones not being able to connect to the phone, is anyone able to tell me what's wrong and how I could possibly fix this? These issues may not even be related they just all started at the same time so I'm assuming they are [link] [comments] |
iPhone 7 overheating and losing battery while using google Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:52 PM PST Hey, I've had a problem recently where my phone will start overheating and losing battery very quickly when I'm using google. I watch a lot of anime on a website on google and when I'm watching it my phone starts to overheat and lose battery. When this happens I just leave my phone to cool down. This only happens on google. If anyone can help me, that'd be great, thank you. [link] [comments] |
Macbook pro Mid 2012 won't start up after being shut down Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:17 PM PST I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012. When i shut the mac off it will not restart unless i unplug the battery and disconnect the power adapter. I tried a different battery and it does the same thing. I tried to reset the PRAM and also the SMC. If i keep the battery disconnected it still will not start from a shutdown unless i pull the power cord and put it back in. A restart will reboot fine. I tried searching online for an answer but i can't find anything. Is there something that i'm missing? There has to be a solution to get this mac running normally again. Also if i boot into a recovery mode the cursor will be really choppy. I'm not sure if that is any help. Any ideas appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Question about iTunes Store request form for UK store Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:09 PM PST I've found an online link to request items from the iTunes store (https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html) but I was unsure if this was the appropriate place to send requests about the UK version of the iTunes store, given that the US and UK stores don't all stock the same items, or that the US store sometimes has items earlier than the UK one. Is there a separate form you can send to request something to be available for users in the UK, or could this form be used by adding a note in the comments section that I am looking for something to be available to UK users as well as US ones? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:03 PM PST I have made a shopping list that i am going to purchase for a party where i do not know everyone, and the only way i have contacts with them is through facebook. And so i just want to add a link to my notes in that group. But i can't. I can only add people i know, and have all of the contact information to. And this may be a security thing. So here is my options: 1: Ask for everyones emails and phone numbers, add them, and send each of them a separate link, feeling like an idiot because it is a shopping list for christ sake, i just wanted to make stuff easy, or: 2: I will write everything in google, as always, because then i can do this extremly basic thing. Is there a path forward? Is there something i am missing [link] [comments] |
