Catalina crashes when in sleep mode Posted: 22 Nov 2019 05:25 PM PST I have a 2017 iMac that updated to Catalina awhile ago without any issues. Everything was great until the last two updates where , now all of a sudden, the iMac just crashes randomly. It crashes when using any app or it could be in sleep mode and crash then. Apple support isn't much help but I haven't really run and diag checks on hardware. Anyone having similar issues? This is also happening on my 2013 MacBook Pro too...so I'm thinking it's a bad build. Posted: 22 Nov 2019 02:33 PM PST What is the easiest way I can I find out what command line utilities are included by default on a given version of macOS? I don't want to have to make a fresh install to find out. Is this documented anywhere? Examples:
I think all of these except curl are included by default but want to confirm. [link] [comments]
Changing the names of the keyboards on Ctrl-Space menu? Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:11 PM PST I often switch between English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese keyboards, but when I switch between them, they display as Ideally it'd be something like how they display on an iPhone or iPad, i.e.; English (Canada), 日本語ãƒãƒ¼ãƒžå—、í•œêµì–´, 简体拼音 or English, 日本語、í•œêµì–´、ä¸æ–‡ or even English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Basically anything other than the current setup would be an improvement. Thanks!! [link] [comments]

Bootcamp - need to manually assign backup drive letter every time I start windows Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:29 PM PST I'm starting here because I assume this win10 (1909) problem is unique to my bootcamp setup on Mojave. Every time I boot windows I must manually assign the drive letter for my backup drive. It doesn't matter if I have just switched from macos to windows or if I have been running windows and restarted. https://i.imgur.com/gW2M0FS.png 2017 iMac with fusion drive apfs format for macos startup with ntfs bootcamp partition (disc 0). The WIN10BACKUP (disk 4) drive is a bare drive in a OWC USB 3.1 Gen 2 dual 2.5/3.5" drive bay plugged into one of the thunderbolt 3 ports. No drivers required. It works great, I use it for File History and Macrium Reflect but it is a bummer I must assign the drive letter each time I start windows. First world problems. :) I'd appreciate any help. Happy to provide more details. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2019 02:29 PM PST When opening a folder in Finder and minimize it, the window disappears. Is there a way to just minimize it and recover to the last opened folder when I click the Finder app? [link] [comments]

It appears OSX Catalina resized the custom vid I use as a screensaver. Any tips? Posted: 22 Nov 2019 12:25 PM PST Using Websaver on a 5k 27 inch iMac circa late 2015. The video was exported in Premiere to the correct dimensions (5120x2880) but when it plays now it is 1/3rds the size with a greyish border surrounding everything. Minor quibble, but aggravating none the less. [link] [comments]

How can I get information with out knowing the password to the MacBook Air Posted: 22 Nov 2019 03:41 PM PST Hey guys, Can I download files (the photos) for the disk utility page on MacBook Air with out knowing the password? Or some how finding out the login password? I'm just trying to prove to my mom that my stepdad is cheating on her, but I don't want him to know anything. I only have one day to do this after he's coming back [link] [comments]

Any way to customize MacOS Look Up menu? Posted: 22 Nov 2019 11:48 AM PST I know I can add my own dictionary on Look Up with adding dictionary file in MacOS. What about to add a new online search in Urbandictionary or Reddit etc.? Btw I know I can make this search with an automator service, however Look Up menu seem like neat and native. Why might Apple ID not be working only for Apple Books? Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:22 AM PST I have a 2015 MacBook Pro (the one with the good keyboard) running macOS Mojave. When I open the Apple Books app and try to sign in, it doesn't recognize my Apple ID and password no matter how many times I enter it correctly. I know I'm entering it correctly because I've logged into iCloud with that same Apple ID and password without a problem. What could be causing this problem? Is there a way to fix this other than changing my password? Thanks. [link] [comments]

BootCamp - Bluetooth Audio Drops Posted: 22 Nov 2019 10:03 AM PST I was pushed to purchase a MBP instead of a PC for the purposes of running almost exclusively Windows due to hardware requirements (needed an 8 core, in a laptop) and dozens of battery and other hardware problems on PC devices from the vendor we buy everything else from (Dell). I have had a pretty good experience, but I cannot use MacOS X because it is not allowed by the security team and I need to do Ethernet based computer account and EAP-TLS Certificate based authentication to even get on our network with the access required for my job. I am getting regular bluetooth audio drops (only happens on the BootCamp side) with the BootCamp drivers installed or the latest Broadcom drivers from Windows Update. I have a 2019 MBP 15" with the i9-9980H, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD. I am also having an issue with the internal microphone from the BootCamp side. The microphone routinely starts playing static during any sound coming through, which is very awkward on meetings, where I randomly sound like a Cylon apparently. I have been able to resolve this by disabling the internal microphone device in Windows, leaving the meeting, and rejoining. I have discovered that the internal microphone on this model appears to be a Bluetooth device as well. I suspect that these issues are related, but haven't found a solution. Most of the places I have asked questions thus far, I've been flamed for buying a Mac to run Windows, but the alternative was to continue having devices being RMA'd on almost a monthly basis, and two of the battery issues resulted in all data on the device being lost. Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:55 AM PST Lately iTunes randomly closes every 10-15 minutes without any error message, while I'm listening to music. What could the cause be? Is there a way to reinstall iTunes? I'm currently using Mojave, but I'm thinking of upgrading to Catalina just to solve the problem. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Nov 2019 03:44 AM PST I was sat downstairs in my house, my iMac is upstairs, when I received notification on my watch that it had unlocked my Mac. Has anyone else experienced and random unlocks like this, if so what is the best way to prevent it from happening again and also figuring out why it unlocked in the first place? 🤔 Thanks, [link] [comments]
iCloud Drive Files Not Uploading from MBA Posted: 22 Nov 2019 05:12 AM PST Got a new MBA and a weird issue. I can access all of my iCloud docs from the new laptop. Everything seems to work fine... except uploading to iCloud. All files stay at Zero KB uploaded. Files I upload to iCloud from iPhone or web app all sync fine with new MBA. If I make a new folder in documents or desktop on MBA, the folder updates in iCloud but none of the contents. I've tried toggling iCloud Drive off and back on. Logged out and back in of iCloud, even wiped the HDD and started over. No luck. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Apple remotely killed Safari extensions? Posted: 22 Nov 2019 06:56 AM PST Hello, I deliberately kept Safari on 12.1.2 in order to keep vital extensions working until I've found a reasonable alternative and fully configured that, which takes some time. (Which essentially comes down to having to move away from Safari entirely as it doesn't offer any useful extensions anymore since Apple killed that and forbid us from toggling a flag to sideload them and secure our browser further.) As of today, those extensions are suddenly missing and they refuse to install as the redirect to the old ext. gallery is dead. They appear to have been removed from Safari and no longer show up at all. No updates to Safari have been installed. I guess that means they cannot be recovered and Apple finally decided to do something to remove still running installations? Not sure if I'm happy about Apple messing with my existing installation. Was wondering if more people whom held back for this reason are experiencing this problem. [link] [comments] |
