I want to upgrade to the latest fcpx release but will require mojave update. As the new fcpx is metal based will my GPU work or will i still have the same issue with it not working once updated? | Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:45 AM PST I made the stupid move to ‚upgrade' my Reminders.app on iOS13 before waiting if I'm actually going to upgrade my Macs to Catalina any time soon. Now, after all the problems Catalina is causing for many users, I'm not going to upgrade in the next months or maybe will even skip Catalina entirely. | Help, MacOS automatically switching spaces. Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:37 PM PST After the most recent update, the spaces on my macbook automatically switch. Ill be typing something on the browser and the next second im looking at finder which is open in the adjacent space. And as I type this, i was talking to my friend complaining about this very thing and the desktop just jumped again. I mention this because my hands were away from the mouse and keyboard and this still happened. Anyone facing similar issues? I feel this might be a very common occurrence in macs. I'll select what I want to sync, playlists etc, and it just spins and spins for hours. I'll unplug it because there's no progress indicator, and no songs since the last sync have been added. | macOS 10.15.1 messed up my MacBook Pro Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:40 AM PST 2014 MacBook Pro I tried to update my MacBook. It turned out that I didn't have enough storage and then it started to boot up and immediately shut down after turning on. I tried to reinstall macOS but needed more storage. After a while, I deleted my data and had to reinstall. Now, it works but it tends to not shut down when I try to shut down. It tends to hang. Now, I must hold the power key manually. Today, it worked fine. BUT it tended to show the Apple logo repeatedly. Now, I am in safe mode and can't do anything until I have WiFi. I can't access anything. What now? Should I reinstall macOS? What now? I also had files in OneDrive that I tried to delete but can't anymore EDIT: I accidentally deleted the Macintosh HD Data disc. it was encrypted and didn't let me reinstall macOS Catalina to it. | I made a Reddit NSFW filter for Safari 12+ Posted: 04 Nov 2019 01:26 PM PST I've always been a big fan of the Reddit Enhancement Suite and was disappointed to learn that the developer has no plans to port it to a Safari app extension. I've been wanting to learn how to develop apps for a long time and was finally motivated enough when I realized one of the biggest features I miss from RES is the NSFW toggle. Enter redditweaks. Right now the only feature it has is the NSFW toggle but I do plan on cherry-picking more features from RES as I continue to develop the extension. Sadly the app (extension) can't be submitted to the App Store since having a NSFW toggle is against the guidelines, so I instead I uploaded the source and the notarized .app file to my GitHub. | Unable to sign in to "iTunes" services Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:21 PM PST Hi there. I had to completely wipe and fresh install Catalina yesterday (basically, I think I had a memory leak, notification centre was consistently using 60GB of memory no matter what I tried - rendered my iMac useless). Anyway, everything went okay with the install, but now I can't sign into any of the "iTunes" services - Music, TV, Podcasts etc. When I try to sign in, it just hangs on the screen for a few seconds and disappears without actually doing anything. Also, when I try to go to the iTunes Store, I get a 11556 error. After doing some googling, a lot of the times that error seemed to be linked to parental restrictions, but I don't have any of those. Restarts/shut downs don't help. Safe mode doesn't help. Created a completely new admin user, that didn't help. All other iCloud services work. The Mac App Store works. Apple Music via a web browser works. Don't know if this is relevant at all, but when I close the Music app with the iTunes Store tab selected and re-open, the store loads properly and I can browse it. But when I go to "account" in the store, it just gets stuck on a "Connecting to the iTunes Store..." screen (that tells me to download iTunes or try opening it from my Windows taskbar... lol) Halp. 2017 iMac (5K, 27-inch) with 10.15.1. | MacBook Pro Early 2011 - Shutdown/Restart is stuck at black screen with cursor Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:50 PM PST Hey guys, Been crawling the internet for an answer for this one and called Apple Support but had no success. Last night I did the latest security update for my MBP 2011 and went to restart it to finish the installation. MBP went to a black screen with my cursor able to move around but wouldn't complete the full shutdown/restart. Ended up having to manual shutdown with the power button and when I come back to my desktop I still have the "need to restart to compete installation" prompt. Here's what I've tried as suggestions from other forums, but had no success: -entering recovery mode > terminal > deleting the AppleLogin.plist -resetting the PRAM and SMC -reinstalling the latest OS via recovery mode, this completed the installation of the new software but the problem with shutdown/restart was still there. At the moment I'm doing a restore from before I did the update from my backup, hoping that the problem will go away and I'll just stick with the previous OS. However if it's an easy fix I'd like to stay up to date with the software updates that come out periodically. Has anybody had this before? Any insight/advice is appreciated! | Windows in dual boot mess up BIOS everytime it boots? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:55 PM PST I installed MacOS on SSD-1 and Windows on SSD-2. EFI separate too. I found that even though windows wont touch the EFI on SSD-1, it still do something to the BIOS and mess up with the MacOS boot (for example nvidia web driver not loading properly etc) everytime windows boots. I can recover everytime from clearing CMOS, but it's sort of troublesome (i do have cmos clear button on the backplate which makes a bit easier). I tried:
None of these work. The symptom is that everytime i boot windows, no matter which way, after restart or shutdown-cold boot, the motherboard logo startup screen will become low resolution and unable to load nVIDIA webdriver. reset CMOS always fix this. I checked BIOS setting didnt noticed anything changed before and after i boot windows. Anyone has idea? [link] [comments]  | ||
| Strange Problem Copying Emails in Mail.app - No Attachments! Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:12 PM PST I imported an old mbox file (an old mail.app archive of my google account) into mail. When I try to copy or drag the emails within it to my active gmail or my icloud accounts, it copies every message in a thread EXCEPT the ones that have attachments. The attachments are there - I've double-clicked on them and viewed them in mail. But if I drag them to, say, gmail, when I go my gmail account it'll have the entire thread but missing any emails that contained attachments. Any idea how to solve this problem? | Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:12 PM PST I recently restored from Time Machine after downgrading back to Mojave when I saw firsthand what a mess Catalina was. But it took me awhile to realize that FileVault was now turned off, although it had been on before. I did some googling, and it looks like this is always the case. So if you use FileVault and restore from Time Machine, make sure you manually turn it back on! I also found that Find My Mac was disabled. Not sure if that's related to the TM restore or not. | clean install and restore files Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:30 AM PST Hi guys im thinking of clean installing catalina on my 13" mbp 2015 because multiple apps such as preview been running quite slow for a month or so now. However, i would like to somesort restore only files and apps from a backup and not reinstalling the whole OS from a backup. I do have TM and i know if i were to restore from TM in recovery mode, it would first format all data in the ssd and then restores the exact os + files from the backup. Hence, making it not a "clean install", instead just a "reinstall of backup" and all of the previous files and slowdowns might still be there.So any suggestions how this might be possible?
