    Hi,

    So I'm running boot camp on my machine and before the update I had ReFind(ReFit) installed and it worked great. But since the update it doesn't work and I haven't figured out a way on MacOS Catalina to make the same thing happen. I work with my macbook pro and when I'm at home I work with it connected to a screen, keyboard and a mouse. So I close the lid. And the keyboard is recognized to late to press the Option key (got a Corsair K68). And it's really annoying to have to open the mac and hold down the option key every time I have to boot into windows. (the mac is in a stand)

    So if any of you guys have a simple solution to this very irritating problem I would be so happy. It's been driving me nuts...

    Making a Bootable USB on macOS 10.15.1 Catalina

    Hello, I want to know how to make a bootable USB of windows on macOS Catalina. The thing is, I already found BalenaEtcher which works well for making a bootable Linux distribution. I already tried Unetbootin but it still wouldn't work. I also wanna stay away from the terminal because I find it a little complicated and might do something wrong.

    Display arrangement

    I have 4 monitors on a Mac Pro Running Catalina. On my main monitor I switch inputs regularly to use my other computers for work related purposes. Due to this, I'm trying to write a script in automator that allows me to switch between a 4 monitor arrangement to a 3 monitor one with a keyboard shortcut. I'm trying to find out where Catalina saves the display configuration files but I'm not having any luck so far. Anyone knows where that is?

    The app constantly looses connection to some of the mail accounts. I rarely close the mail app, I just hit the x but its still open if you know what I mean. So when I pull it up, it has to connect to some of the email accounts. Other times, the mail app will be jumping in my launch bar at the bottom and when I click on it, it shows that one of the accounts "appears to be offline due to a network problem. Do you want to try to go online now" I hit take all accounts online, and it does so without issue. I have tried to rebuild database, and even tried deleting every account from the mail app and re-logging in to each one

    Im on Catalina the latest version and this has been happening ONLY on Catalina

    Cannot remove items from dock?

    I recently updated to Catalina, and I have an issue where the items of the docks cannot be removed or moved around. New applications fail to show up on dock when opened which means that dock might be frozen? Anyway to fix this issue? I've tried restarting the dock. Thanks in advance.

    [Help] Fans wont work unless I use a 3rd party fan control system

    So, I've got a Macbook Pro 15" 2017. About a week back, I updated it's software to Catalina from the beta. Everything has been working smooth up until about an hour ago. I noticed it was running super laggy and quiet. As soon as I touched the housing of my macbook, I realised it was overheating badly. My instinct told me to immediately stuff it in the fridge for like a minute (no longer as I was worried about humidity building up and eventually causing corrosion on the motherboard).

    This helped with the lag, but my fans were still not working at all so i knew I was only fine till it overheats again with no cooling. The only thing I could think of in the moment was to try a 3rd party fan control system to try set the rpm manually. THIS WORKED and man was I soo happy, but when i quit MacFanControls, my fans still stop.

    Any help? I don't want to have to rely on a 3rd party app for something so basic and essential.

    (Note: Ive tried basic troubleshooting like turning it off and on again, and restarting smc...)

    Why does my MBP 13" 2018 have so many problems

    First of all, I am generally an apple fan (love my iPhone 8, iPad Pro, AirPods, Apple Watch s4), but I just can't take this MBP anymore (its so buggy!!!). And none of the problems that I described below happened when I was using my $600 second hand 4gb ram surface pro 3 previously - like literally NONE. It might be a little slower, but it just did not have so many bugs. Just wondering if its only happening to me or do other people face some of the issues that I just described. Sorry for the rant :P

    There are SO MANY problems with using safari

    • I get this weird green flashing fits while watching Netflix full screen that makes me think my screen is spoilt (And there isn't even a Netflix app for Mac ugh)

    • At times when I try to go to youtube it will refresh multiple times and result in an error page saying "A problem repeatedly occured with https://www.youtube.com."

    • Small issues while watching a video on certain webpage (including youtube) - such as not being able to bring up the video timeline when u hover your cursor over the video

    • And using Chrome sucks because 1. it drains my battery. 2. it heats my MBP and turns the on fan all the way (while watching a youtube video nonetheless....)

    Secondly, beyond safari there are so many bugs that just keepings happening every now and then

    • Once I had my M.Word just malfunctioned - I cannot type anything, I can't open my previous docs, I can't save anything - until I updated my MacOs to the latest version

    • Sometimes I would Cmd+C (Im sure I pressed it well) and Cmd+V to paste but it just comes out the previous things that I have copied as though the Cmd+C was not recorded.

    • If I have 2 PPT opened and I go into full screen of 1 of them - after leaving full screen and pressing ESC it goes back to other PPT (like ???)

    Hi guys, if this is the wrong subreddit I'm sorry and can repost elsewhere.

    I am looking for a MacBook Pro time machine solution. I have a 256gb so not a huge space concern, but I'm horrible at plugging in my backup drive, and I just lost a lot of data from a MacBook motherboard failure, so I'm looking into solutions.

    The airport seems like the ideal solution, but it looks like it's discontinued. I want an option that will passively backup my computer to a Seagate external drive when I'm on the same Wifi network as the drive is at my house.

    I'm pretty tech-capable (work in software and it) so any directions or tutorials are appreciated, even if it takes some heavy lifting. I have a raspberry pi and a desktop windows pc that could be used to manage the drive if that would work best. I've tried connecting to my desktop as a server and partitioning the drive with disk utility, but can't get the formatting to allow for me to use Timeline on a windows drive on a network. Any automation tool, scripting tutorials, or raspberry pi server examples you guys could link me?Any other solutions for offline backup that don't require the same mental awareness as birth control? I'm too spacey to remember and crashes always happen at the worst possible time.

    Running latest version of Catalina btw.

    I seem to have discovered the solution for all of my missing album art.

    Shortly after upgrading to Catalina, [and syncing my iPhone for the first time](https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/df4fr4/did_anyone_else_lose_a_truckload_of_itunes_album), a ton of my album art was either mixed up, or missing entirely. I check my music library on my laptop, and everything seemed fine. Eventually, I went into the Finder > iPhone, and I unchecked the options to sync all of my music, movies, and television shows. I then synced to force-remove everything. I then went back and re-checked the options and re-synced all of my content and magically my album art was back!

    I have a variety of sources for my music in particular. A lot of it is legitimate iTunes purchase, some is from ripped CDs, and some is from *other sources*. The inconsistency of what was missing and what was intact did not really lend much to my theories of "why", so in the end it was one step short of a complete reset of the device. Also, because I have close to 200 GB of content, the re-sync did take some time, though as of tonight it does seem to be worth it.

    If anyone else is also running into this issue, and you sync with a Mac, please give this a shot and let me know if it works for you as well.

    Difference between system Python and Homebrew’s version?

    I'm confused on what the difference is between the two. If I want to enable Python support for Neovim (installed from Homebrew) should I use Homebrew's version of python to do "pip install neovim" or just the system version of Python?

    Mac password - security iCloud

    Hello everybody,

    Some weeks ago I tried to login my iCloud account and I was asked for my Mac password during the login process. I found it very strange cause it had never happened.

    I tried three time and it was wrong. Eventually I tried my old password and it worked.

    Since then I have been trying to understand what password is this and how I can change it.

    Is there a way to get Hazel to extract an archive if the contents hasn't been extracted already?

    IPv6: Setting the source address to use

    With enabled IPv6 privacy extensions MacOS will generate at least two IPv6 addresses: The secured and temporary one. So far so good. MacOS is using the temporary address to initiate connections. However I'd like to tell MacOS to use the secured address for some destinations. On linux it's pretty easy:

    ip route add theprefix via gatewayaddress src thesecuredaddress

    I'm struggling to implement the same on MacOS. I tried it with the route command, but it seems like you can't specify the source address there. My hope was to find some answers in the FreeBSD handbook. I googled around and found this. Reading 8.1.1.6. Source Address Selection the first point mentioned is "If the source address is explicitly specified by the user (e.g., via the advanced API), the specified address is used.".
    So FreeBSD seems to support it via the "advanced API". I hope that means MacOS is also supporting it. However I was not able to find the magic "advanced API". I hope somebody here can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

    Restoring OSX on an iMac with Windows 10 ?

    I was using my GFs iMac for a while and I formatted it and installed Win10. Now that I got my own PC,I'd like to restore it back to MacOS but I have no clue how. I tried downloading mac os .dmg and making it bootable with rufus,doesnt work. I found an ISO version,but still again,doesnt work. Anyone got a clue to help me out ?

    I'm running 10.15.1. It's been a nightmare. I finally downloaded Etrecheck and this is what it found:

    Cannot download pages on iMac mid ‘11

    So my grandparents have this Mid 2011 iMac that they use every once in a while to send some emails, surf on the internet, and every once in a while create a document.

    The preferred text editor was Pages from MacOS, however after formatting the iMac, it could only install up to OSX 10.13 (high sierra) since this version of iMac is not supported for 10.14.

    Sadly, the current version of Pages in the appstore requires 10.14 or higher. Is there a way to install a backdated version of Pages?
