PSA: theatre mode is not only for cinema. You can also use it if you wear your watch in bed.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 12:19 AM PDT

Veterans must know this already. But as a new user for Apple Watch and specifically S5.. I found out that theatre mode is a very welcome feature in bed. It turns off your AOD and disable raise to wake. Also turns brightness to low for those times at night when you wake up and check the time. And of course puts the watch to silent. So an alarm will surely wake you up without disturbing other people around.

Issue with S5 AOD going black, flickering, and then showing the clock app icon.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 11:24 PM PDT

Has anyone seen this before? It just started doing it tonight. When it would normally show the AOD, it'll instead go black, and only show the watch face every few seconds. When I turn it towards me to wake it, the screen shows the clock app icon in the middle of the screen with spinning dots around it for a few seconds before showing the normal display. It does not do this when the AOD is off. It will wake instantly then. I've already restarted it several times.

If no one has any ideas I'll spin by the Apple Store tomorrow and see what they can do.

watchOS 6.1 seems to have addressed the 'slow to wake on raise or tap' issue

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:15 AM PST

I have an S4 (stainless, cellular) and since the 6.01 update, I found two things, like many other redditors:

    1. During the day, my watch was sometimes sluggish in responding to a wake-on-raise, and,
    2. Wearing my watch to bed, when I use DND + Cinema mode, it was always sluggish in responding to a wake-on-tap—I'd usually have to tap it two or three times.

Now, with 6.1, those issues seem to have disappeared. I've had a couple of nights with it and it wakes on a single tap every time. And during the day, I never notice it responding sluggishly to me raising my wrist.

Are other 6.1 upgraders seeing the same improvement?

Just curious. How many of y’all are paying for the Cellular service and actually use it often without your phone? I’m paying for it and am rarely without my phone.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 04:26 PM PDT

I even workout with my phone as it's much easier to change music and find new things to workout to. I thought the watch would let me workout without my phone but I can't seem to make that happen.

    Series 5 AOD Desired Feature

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:18 AM PDT

Just upgraded to the S5 and love it. Wish you could change faces when the AOD kicks in. When I want to engage in the Apple Watch, something like infograph with a lot of detail is necessary, but as the watch goes into AOD mode, I would like something more like Numerals Duo until I need to wake again. Of course this would be automatic based on raise of wrist.

    Got the S5

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 05:46 PM PDT

I have had an S4 that I was not looking to upgrade because my wife wanted my watch since she doesn't like to get the newest watch so I got the S5 with cellular. I was not expecting to like the AOD but now that I have it I love it.

S4 serious battery drain when not wearing

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:20 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I've just updated my S4 to watchOS 6.1 and noticed a serious battery drain issue. I've charged the watch on my nightstand all-night and took it off the charger 2 hours prior to wearing. When I wanted to wear it the battery had completely drained.

Anybody who knows a fix for this?

2-in-1 Charger Works With Series 5?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:10 AM PST

Whenever an app is running the AOD shows a digital clock in stead of my original watchface. How to change that?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:11 AM PST

For example when I am in my car, I want to listen to spotify. Bluetooth via my phone. My watch notices this and then your aod changes to a digital clock on the top right with the spotify app in the back (faded). It is annoying that I have to touch the crown to get it back to my normal watch face.

    When I play spotify

How I want it to be

    Apple Watch 5 for Runners

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:53 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

After running for almost 4 years with a TomTom Runner 2, the battery life is getting really bad and therefore I am looking for a new watch for running/day-to-day use. During this time I also fell in love with the Apple Ecosystem and I am a proud owner of an iPhone and iPad now!

As for the Apple Watch, is it good for runners? Can you track everything you can with a normal running watch with it? (heart rate/distance/vo2max etc.) and how is the battery life? I would like to start training for a marathon again, does the battery last with GPS+heart rate for 4-5 hours?

Edit: One more question: Should you get the 44mm or 41mm variant?

    Thanks!

AW S4 44mm battery - normal or bugged?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:56 AM PST

I've got an AW S4 44mm around 3 months ago. Ever since, I've been having some battery issues. Prior to this, I've had an S3.

Battery barely lasts me a day. I start wearing it at 10, and by the time I get home (10 pm), I'm on 10%. No workout. Only checking time and some notifications.

Last night, I factory reset it, paired it as new, disabled location. Do Not Disturb, Theater mode. 8 hours of sleep with the watch, no sleep tracker, woke up with 42%. Usage showed 8 minutes, standby was 8 hours 2 min.

I am running WatchOS 6.1 and iOS 13.2, both on official release. Is this normal? My S3 would easily last me 2 days with 4 workouts and sleep tracking.

    Thanks in advance!

Apps already installed but watch app not showing as installed

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:54 AM PST

I have a series 4 on watchOS 6. The apps under available apps say install but just keep spinning. They aren't updating to the latest version and removing them from the phone just removes them from the watch. They do not install again after installing them to the phone. Is this a known bug?

Is the S3 still worth it as a first Apple Watch?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:43 AM PDT

As the title says, I'm thinking of getting an Apple Watch S3 38mm soon as of the reduction to £199 in the U.K. I just wanted to know if it's still worth the money as it's a couple of years old.

I would only really use it as a watch, for fitness/activity tracking, messaging, Apple Pay, and as a supplement to my phone.

I'm not getting the cellular version as my mobile provider doesn't support the Apple Watch, and I'm not using it to replace my phone.

    Thanks!

All day with only Apple Watch LTE

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:18 AM PST

Will the battery of the S4/S5 last the whole day without the phone - only using cellular? I won't do anything crazy, just respond to notifications most of the time. If it can't last the whole day, then cellular doesn't fix any problem for me and is useless...

    Problems with series 2

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:59 AM PST

Having some issues with my series 3* for a few weeks now. It has become quite unresponsive to touch and when lifting my wrist. It is now locking itself even when it's on my wrist. I unlock it, put my wrist down, Lift it again and it's locked. I had to turn wrist detection off to stop this. But obviously I would prefer to have wrist detection on. So not ideal. Now it won't update to the newest iOS it just keeps failing. I've looked online and tried pretty much anything I could find to fix the issues but doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Apple Watch 5 battery?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:29 PM PDT

I switched to the 5 about a month ago. I am so disappointed in the battery life. Today it only lasted 12 hours before completely dying. Any advice to extend battery life?
