"Wi-Fi: No hardware installed" and "Bluetooth: Not Available" on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)

I was replacing the CD-ROM drive on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13" with a hard drive, and apparently I must have done something to trip up the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi system, as I now receive the two error messages mentioned in this post's title, despite not having really done anything to the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi iSight cable or AirPort card.

I bought a replacement iSight cable, but when I went into the computer to try to replace it, I realized that the iSight cable actually also extends to the webcam in the LCD monitor behind the glass (I hadn't realized the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi cable is connected to the webcam cable). I really don't want to use a heat gun to remove my LCD screen, so I was wondering if anyone here thinks replacing the WiFi AirPort card might do the trick, as that would be much easier to replace (wouldn't need to remove the LCD screen). I don't remember if I initially just bought a replacement cable to see if that might fix the problem because it's cheaper than replacing the card, but I'd rather pay for the card if it means I won't have to remove the LCD screen (but of course, I don't want to buy it if the problem is really the cable).

That said, again, I didn't really tamper with the cable (or the card) when I replaced my CD-ROM drive with a hard drive, so if there is any non-hardware approach to fixing this problem, that would be heavenly.

    Any thoughts?

How to optimize my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 10:26 PM PST

    Here's what I'm working with:

    Edition: 13-inch, Mid 2010

    macOS: High Sierra, Version 10.13.6

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Memory: 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB graphics

Storage: 1 TB Solid State SATA Drive (54 GB available)

Main functions: Excel (lots of data), Internet browsing (lots of tabs), and iTunes (lots of audio files)

I would have thought that upgrading my memory to 16 GB and upgrading my hard drive to a 1 TB SSD would result in lightning-fast performance, but I suppose my outdated processor (which I believe can't be upgraded) is the bottleneck that even makes Excel run slow. Still, I'm willing to do just about anything (that's cost-efficient) to keep using this computer rather than buy a new one, so I'm open to any suggestions on how I might be able to give it new life.

Incidentally, I recall my MBP was lightning-fast before I upgraded the OS, and it was dramatically slower after the OS upgrade. Still, OS upgrades can't be avoided (need to upgrade so I can continue using Dropbox and certain other applications), so I don't think going back to an older OS would be the solution.

    Thanks in advance!

    HAT SSD for MacBook Air?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 01:08 PM PST

I've been looking into thinking of getting OWC for my MacBook air but it is costly for me, but I happened to see about a cheaper cost effective method Hat SSD on eBay. My understanding is a small business based in Alabama and appears to have great reviews. Does anyone recommend them? Thanks.

Can't use chmod properly on my MacBook Pro

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 01:38 PM PST

Hi, I am trying to learn how to use the terminal.

I need to make it so my folder look like the one in this picture :

    https://imgur.com/T18L19k

When I use chmod 504 test2 it works the first time I use ls -l then it goes back to some random permissions I don't know why ( see this picture )

Could this have something to do with the fact my folder is inside the base documents folder ?

    Really need help

    Cheers

Thoughts on the MB AIR(black Friday deal)?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 06:08 AM PST

So, looking to get my 11th. grade daughter a MB AIR for the holidays. She will be using it for the junior and senior year of high school and than into her college years. Just wanted to get some feedback on this one. My main concern is the 128 GB SSD, but she doesn't save a a lot of stuff as in high school, everything a majority of not all is cloud based. Thank you!

A few questions about the MBP 2016

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 01:24 PM PST

Hi, I have a few questions on the 2016 MBP

The 2016 Macbook Pro 13 inch only has 2 cores. Does anyone know if that will be enough to power a few Virtual Machines (via Parallels)?

Next question, currently I am using a Cherry MX Blue mechanical keyboard, how will the keyboard compare, I just want to know whether it's clicky and tactile.

Thanks for the help in advance

Apple removed a cool feature in stickies in catalina

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 07:34 AM PST

So the ability to select text like a paragraph from an app or safari or something like that and then command + shift + Y would transfer that to a sticky note. That being said, anyone knows an alternative for stickies that supports this feature? Would appreciate any help!

My 'R' key keeps phantom repeating itself. How can I disable my macbook keyboard altogether and just use a bluetooth one instead?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 07:58 AM PST

I know that this is pretty common with 4+ yr old Macbooks. There are a lot of possible solutions on Google, but none of which have worked for me yet, and I am not sure about which commands are safe and not safe. If anybody has a solid answer for me, it would be very appreciated.

For now I'm at work and have to periodically pound the crap out of the R key to make it stop. It's a very fun inconvenience in our open office.

    Thanks in advance.

(Help)I renamed my home directory and now I have two user folders

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 06:25 AM PST

So I followed apples guide to rename my home directory and it worked. The problem that I'm having is now there are duplicate user folders, the old name and the new name. Doe this take up twice the space on my MacBook and is there something I should do or should I not worry about it.

Thank you, have a MacTastic day.
