    Run NFC Siri Shortcuts on your older iPhone!

    Hello everybody. Those of you on r/shortcuts have already seen this firsthand so if you are interested please join that subreddit to everything about shortcuts.

    So, as you know, Apple now allows you to run shortcuts via NFC Tags........if you have an iPhone XS or later.

    I was so disappointed when I learnt that one of the most anticipated features I had for iOS 13 would not work on my iPhone X that I immediately started investigating how to get around it.

    Turns out, I found a way! I didn't like that 'hack' where you write an URL, so I found a way that is more elegant, and allows me to have multiple shortcuts on a single tag. It's an app I made and it allows you to just write one or more shortcuts to a single NFC Tag. You just write the name of the shortcut on the tag (you can write as many as you want), then, the app prompts you to pick which one you want to run (if you have more than one) and 'talks' with the Shortcuts app to run it.     Of course you still won't have background reading, but there's nothing we can do about that :( However the app does provide a today extension widget for quick launch.

    Some use cases I, myself, absolutely love:

    • Put a NFC Tag on your television or Apple TV to turn it on, open a specific app, resume a show, play any song, playlist or podcast, or even turn it off.
    • Put a NFC Tag on your bedside table to set the alarm to ring at a specific time or for example 7 hours later or even just turn on Do not disturb automatically.
    • Put a NFC Tag on your speaker to automatically set the volume to 100% and play anything you want automatically.
    • Put a NFC Tag next to your cup and every time you fill it in, record it on your favorite water measurement app.
    • Put a NFC Tag on your iPhone Car holder so every time you place it there it'll for example start your favorite playlist, get directions to a specific place or even share an ETA.

    I'll leave here some codes for you to redeem the app for free, but Apple limits the amount of codes I can provide, so ... 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Also don't forget to check out my other app, QR Shortcuts where you can store a shortcut on a QR Code and run it just by pointing your camera at it! (I'll leave some codes for it too down below)

    PS: If you have any issue you can PM me and I'll be glad to help, of course. iOS tends to be very picky about the NFC tags you can or can't use (the ones I tried always worked but I know some don't). Also, don't bother asking for an Watch version of the app. I, as a customer, would love that but unfortunately for now, Apple just doesn't allow it. Maybe next year ;)

    OLED vs LCD?

    Very stupid question but I want to know why OLED is better than LCD. I understand that OLED screens have a higher contrast ratio than an LCD but having tried the iPhone 11 Pro I felt kinda underwhelmed. I compared it to the LCD screen on my iPhone 8 Plus at max brightness with the same settings and the colours on the OLED screen had less pop than my iPhone 8 Plus screen.

    Does OLED work towards better colour accuracy for HDR?
