    Projector suggestions for iPad 6?

Having fast switch within the slide over is a welcome addition while training. I can turn on my fan, change music and text without ever getting out of the cycling app.

Difference between new iPad pro and older version.

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:28 PM PDT

Any artists here that would like to tell what's the difference between the new pro and older versions. Does it feel different while drawing? Anything major missing from the older version that is in new one? I'm planning to buy one just for art and I'm not sure if I should go for new or older version.

Who wants the option for space insertion notability

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 08:57 AM PDT

Why on earth they did not add this option. It is a must for note taking ( or for refining your notebook after class). I know that onenote has it, but i don't like it, and like many free things- there is a cost of privecy in the future

    Logitech crayon pencil

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 01:25 PM PDT

Any of you guys have the logitech crayon pencil? and would you suggest it for note taking? I am a student (not an art student) and will only use a pencil for note taking. I hear that the absence of pressure sensitivity makes lots of difference while some say that the logitech pencil is perfect for students. Thank you in advance.

Practical way to store 1st gen Apple Pencil?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 01:16 PM PDT

I thought the case I had ordered for my mini came with a pencil holder, but it doesn't. I have a regular pencil case that I use to store pencils and pens, would it be ok in there without any additional protection? Not sure how durable the pencil is so idk if it needs a proper case/holder or if that's more to keep it from getting lost.

What are your thoughts on the new Surface Pro X targeted at the iPad Pro?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:56 PM PDT

edit: Yeah just forget it guys, too much fanboying in here to have a decent discussion.. 😒

I'm a big lover of /r/iPad and /r/Surface .. I think both platforms are exceptionally well but I'd also like to hear what your current opinions are of the new Surface Pro X that was released hours ago from Microsofts' Surface event. It's starting price is $999.. I'm currently an iPad Pro 11" user (alongside a 13" Mbp).. I think it'll be a cool discussion just to see what everyones thoughts/opinions are ..

    The way I see it:

    Surface Pro X benefits:

    • It's running full fledge version of W10
      • Need to run Android Studio? R? Proprietary Windows software? Need more than basic printing options?
    • It finally has an 'always on' iOS like feel.
    • That unlimited multiple angled hinge is just light years ahead of the iPads design.
    • Keyboard is better than the iPads.
      • It also has a trackpad which makes productivity a bonus
        • Which also got a 20% size increase.
    • Better starting storage (128 vs 64) [Cheaper]
    • Removable battery/hard-drive (A BIG ONE)!
    • 2 USB-C ports.
    • More integration if you are an Android user.
    • Fast charging 80% in under an hour.

    iPad Pro benefits:

    • The display is still superior with double the refresh rate.
    • The pencil 2 is still better (assuming they are using the same technology from the first pen since they didn't talk about it much) and according to journalists that famous stuttering was still present when that lady demonstrated on Adobe Fresco.
    • iOS has a LOT of polished apps on the App Store, LumaFusion, Notability, Procreate, Affinity Photo, Goodnotes etc ..
    • I think iOS as a platform is a benefit (for its simplicity and ease of use), but really I don't know anyone outside of Reddit who actually has a problem with W10 in 2019.
    • Apple ecosystem cohesion with other Apple products.. It is much more tightly integrated.

I'm on a mixed bag here, I love my iPad Pro to death and its my main device really for working/studying but I also have to keep a 13" MBP around for when I need "desktop stuff" or when I'm trying to work quickly (working on iPadOS is lovely but its painfully slow at multitasking compared to MacOS/W10.

Personally if they released the Surface Pro X with Thunderbolt 3 support .. I pretty much may have sold my MBP + iPad for that. I really just want ONE device in my life.. Even sacrificing all the amazing ecosystem benefits I gain out of the iPad.. Which is a good thing for all of us consumers; competition is always great >:) Lets not forget Apples next update could potentially be a big new update to the iPad Pro and the 2020 rumoured redesign as well!

    So.. What are your thoughts?

EDIT: Yeah just forget it guys, too much fanboying in here to have a decent discussion.. 😒

I want to upgrade from new iPad Air?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:41 PM PDT

Hello, I bought an iPad Air 10.5 about two weeks ago, and I love it, but I would like to upgrade to the iPad Pro 12.9, for the pro features and bigger screen. Unfortunately I am 2 days past my return time at Best Buy and can not return it for a full refund, how can I upgrade without losing too much money? Thanks for the help!

Right arrow key working backwards in Pages only?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:02 PM PDT

This is driving me nuts. Only in Pages my right arrow key is as if it's a left key. Every other app works fine so I though I would delete and reinstall Pages, but no luck. It only started today, so I though the new update 13.1.2 would fix it, but it's still happening.

People with BOTH notability and goodnotes, how do you make use of them?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 01:53 AM PDT

I know there's been much debate between which app is the better of the two, but I do enjoy using both of them at the same time. Typically I use notability for annotating on lecture slides or for other classes due to the recording function. I also use goodnotes for creating notes or annotating on and summarizing textbooks. I'm not exactly sure if I'm maximising the usage of both apps, so I'd like to hear from you guys. What do you guys use the apps for?

Apple pencil doesn't work when tilted

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 11:47 AM PDT

Thought i'd note my experience with apple support concerning malfunctioning apple pencil. The pencil (gen2 with ipad pro 2019) only works correctly when perfectly vertial. With any tilt the pencil has a nearly one second lag before it writes. If held vertical it writes instantly. It took me a while to realize what was going on (since i didn't know what to expect in the first place since it was all new to me). I found absolutely nothing on the net about this problem which i thought was a little weird.

I called apple (getting a very fast return call response btw) and the first level person ran me thru the standard resetting routine but couldn't figure it out, and then handed me off to a more experienced person. While i was waiting i figured the vertical only solution, and told the second person what i found. The second person was really irritating, very officious and mechanical, but also didn't seem knowledgable about tilt problems. They offered to have me send it in by mail to troubleshoot it since i'm a long ways from an apple store. Instead, i'll just wait til i go into the city and take care of it in person. At any rate I haven't found any info about pencil lag only when tilted anywhere. I wonder how often this malfunction happens with apple pencils. I'm assuming it's the pencil not the ipad, but i may find out otherwise when i get into the apple store.

Mini or Air? Which form factor do you think is better?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 11:43 AM PDT

I can't make up my mind.

I had the 10.5 Pro for a few months but sold it for a used 12" Macbook just before the iPadOS rumors because it just wasn't as convenient as an actual laptop. Now I'm kicking myself since iPadOS is a thing and I imagine it will become more capable as it diverges from iOS. Now I've sold the 12" and looking at the iPads again.

I was thinking about getting a Mini since it's size should be better for on-screen typing and using it as an eBook reader in bed. I found that the Pro was a little too big and heavy for reading in bed.

Besides those two things, I think the larger form factor would be better for general productivity and multitasking. This would be my travel and around-the-house device when I'm not at my desk on my MBP.

    iPad behavior home screen shortcut

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:22 AM PDT

Sharepoint shortcut added to home screen. seems like just recently each time sharepoint shortcut is loaded on our iPads it asks the user to sign in. this seems normal, but even after checking "remember this pw" it asks the user to sign in everytime the shortcut is loaded. hopefully, i'm just missing an iPad setting. Any help is appreciated. Oh, sharepoint app is garbage. you cannot upload files to document libraries on mobile. so we don't use it.

This behavior doesn't occur when safari is reopened. It seems to remember the user fine. Also the browser bar is gone when launched from a shortcut.
