Posted: 23 Oct 2019 09:07 PM PDT I do not like what they've done to iTunes. Dividing one program that while admittedly a bit clunky, was actually just fine, into 3 different programs is just a pain to navigate. I liked having movies, audiobooks, and music all within one app. Now it's across 3 (4 if you count Books), so if I'm listening to music and I decide I want to pull up an audiobook that I've imported, I have to open another RAM hog app that takes 87 years to load. But wait, I feel like watching a movie that I have on here. Guess what? Another app! And syncing with Finder is so extremely slow. With iTunes, I could sync my 128GB 7 Plus in under 5 minutes. With this update, I started a sync at 8:30 and now at 9:06, it's not even halfway done. What gives? It's the same phone, same cord, same MacBook and it's looking like it'll take 10x as long. Come on Apple, get it together. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:25 PM PDT Hi! I accidentally erased a treasured messages thread from my iPhone--the thread was many years old and had several links/photos in it. Luckily the thread is still available in its entirety on my Mac via the Messages app. Is it possible for me to sync what I have on my Mac back to my phone? The iPhone search mechanism is a lot more user-friendly than on Mac so I'd like to sync it back if possible. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:33 PM PDT Since upgrading my iPhone 7s to iOS 13.x, the mail app has not functioned properly. 1) headlines don't download to my inbox. I'll see 3-4 headlines, the 5th will appear blank (despite an actual email), then the 6-9th will appear. 2) I'll read an email, then go back to my inbox, and the recently viewed email appears as unread. WTF, Apple?! Consider testing your products before launch?! I've bought every phone you offered, but am seriously considering breaking up with you. I also dislike the you can't comment about Mail in the App Store. 1 star. [link] [comments] |
Message badge not disappearing after upgrading to MacOS Catalina Posted: 23 Oct 2019 10:30 PM PDT I just got MacOS Catalina and the notification badge on the messages app icon won't clear when I respond to a message straight from the alert, as I would be prompted to do the photo below. When I click "Mark as Read" the notification badge on the messages app icon does go away, but when I click "Reply" and respond to the message right from that little box, the notification badge on the messages app icon persists until I open the actual app. https://i.imgur.com/2xN38CD.jpg I am really hoping this isn't intentional, because it is really annoying. External SSD Suddenly Slow Write Speeds Posted: 23 Oct 2019 10:27 PM PDT Hey /r/applehelp, I've been using an external SSD plugged in via a Thunderbolt 3 cable for a few months and it has worked fine until today. I was trying to update a program I have installed on the drive and it was taking an incredibly long time. Out of curiosity I ran Blackmagic Speed Test and got this result showing the write speeds are slow but the read speeds are completely normal: I plugged in another drive into the same enclosure, and the write speeds were normal: So then I tried switching the cable to a different Thunderbolt cable, same speed. I tried running the First Aid tool in Disk Utility on it, said it was fine. I tried completely backing up and erasing the drive and reformatting it, same speed. I tried formatting it as an APFS drive instead of MacOS Extended Journal (suggested on a post found on google), same speed. I then tried to boot into recovery mode and run fsck -fy on the external, that showed that it seemed to be fine and didn't make a difference either. I'm willing to accept the drive might just be failing, but wouldn't that likely be affecting the read speed as well? The drive still seems to work fine when accessing and running programs and games from it, but trying to update the relatively large program I was trying to update was just painfully slow. Seems like something is throttling the write speed in particular. Any other suggestions of things to try? Or should I just go pick up another SSD? Thanks all! [link] [comments] |
External HDD keeps spinning up and down, sleep mode isn’t really a thing Posted: 23 Oct 2019 09:58 PM PDT Hey everyone, I got myself an upgrade recently and bought a 2019 27" iMac. My external HDD broke shortly before that, so I got a WD desktop elenents 4tb. Here's the Clou: With my old iMac (late 2012 21.5"), the drive was behaving completely normal. But with the new one, I sometimes have it spin up and down the whole night. Which is not very helpful when you're trying to sleep right next to it... So what happens exactly is the drive spins up, keeps spinning for some time (occasionally it actually makes a backup) and then it spins back down. Usually around 30seconds later, it spins back up and the cycle continues. From last night to this morning I even had the iMac wake up by itself (screen turning on) after the hdd spin up. So generally, I have the feeling, something's off with the sleep mode...... I have no idea where I should start looking for a problem, so can anyone please point me in a direction? P.S.: I installed Catalina a few days ago and that didn't change anything with the problem [link] [comments] |

AirPods case battery depletes exponentially fast? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 05:08 PM PDT Hello, I don't know if it was mentioned here before but I have an issue with the battery case for the AirPods. My boyfriend recently got them for me and I've noticed that the battery drains really fast. I used one AirPod and it is at 100% while the battery case is at 50% for an hour. After an hour, I placed it back onto the case and now it is saying it is at 14% to charge that one AirPod to 100%. Is this normal? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:44 PM PDT Hello, i'm having a problem with my macbook air, i was using it completely fine in the afternoon, i closed as i usually do and a couple of hours after i tried turning it on, it would just make the start up sound but won't turn on, i thought it might be the battery so i charged it, but it keeps doing the same it's making the start up sound and keeps doing it every couple of seconds but it won't turn on, i'm wondering if there's anything i can do by myself or if i should just take it to get diagnosed and fixed [link] [comments] |
2019 MacBook Pro won’t turn on Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:21 PM PDT My MacBook wasn't charging, so I decided to reset the SMC. However, instead of powering the Mac off, like you should, I just pressed the key combination while that Mac was on and It shut off. Trying to turn it on again does not work. The Mac still pings when the charging cable is connected. I have tried power cycling and resetting the SMC again, now that it is completely off, but the screen remains pitch black and nothing hardware-wise kicks on. I can't even start it in recovery/safe mode. Just got it a few months ago. Apple support suggested scheduling an appointment, but I live very far away from any of their stores. Any suggestions to get it working, or have I completely killed my MacBook? [link] [comments] |
Headphones broke off in iPad jack and now they’re glued in Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:55 PM PDT My headphones broke off inside the jack of my iPad (model A1893) a few days ago and instead of taking it to get fixed at an Apple store I tried to find solutions on google instead, which I now sincerely regret. The method I found suggested the use of a toothpick and superglue. It didn't work; the glue couldn't bind the metal to the toothpick. Furthermore, I seem to have been overzealous with the use of the glue and it's run down into the jack, binding the broken headphone piece in there. I've since booked an appointment to remove the piece from the jack on Saturday but... it's superglue and I don't even know if they'll even be able to get it out. Is there anything I can do to weaken or remove the glue? Is this even the right sub to be posting on? (If there's a better one for this situation, please let me know.) I do have acetone nail polish remover but I'm scared it will damage the plastic interior of the jack. I've only had the iPad for a few months and I'd Rather Not have to replace it already. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro 2019 13 Inch 1.4 Ghz 128 GB vs 256 GB? Huge price difference Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:41 PM PDT Hi, After a lots of discussion and thinking, I decided to enter the Apple eco system by choosing my first ever Apple product. I am kinda confused here now, because of the vast price difference in our country between those two models. The 128 GB model costs me around - 1625 USD The 256 GB model costs me around - 1838 USD Sad truth, the price includes import duty and taxes. Converted from my currency to USD. The base model already has an exorbitant price tag, do you think it's worth to get the 256 GB model? Even tho we could spend that extra money on a faster SSD and connect it via USB? I am just new to this thing overall, hope some experienced can help me choose the right one for me. P.s - I also read lots of threads regarding this topic, I just couldn't end up in a conclusion. why is it i can never use the app store because my ID never seems to work twice? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 03:06 PM PDT i have had a Mac since 2007. i have pretty much stopped using the app store because of this issue. it just happened again. when my new upgrade went through i had to re-enter/ change my ID....tried it just now and the password i just entered is invalid. i am about ready to give up on Apple. because of this. or at least stop using the app store. i always wright down the ID so as not to forget it so i am pretty sure it's not me. now if i could just get Apple to do the same. anyone have any idea as to the cause of this? it's driving me nuts.....and Apple is no help. they won't acknowledge the problem exists. I've got a bizarre issue with apple id/2 factor verification process Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:46 PM PDT Heya, listen I'm gonna be upfront about being pretty new to apple tech and the systems around it, but I got this very strange and incredibly frustrating thing that's happening. So here's the skinny. I got an iPad the other day. Brand new, not second hand. Activated it no problem. Now here's where it gets funny, over night the thing doesn't allow me to use my finger print for unlock and I have to use my passcode which is thing that happens usually apparently? Idk. Of course I forgot my passcode. So I try to do the restore thing with find my iPhone from my phone, get to the two factor verification, code they send over text works fine but I accidentally exited out of the so I do it again but this time the verification code doesn't work. Now when ever I get to that on anything the verification code doesn't work. Eventually I restored my ipad through iTunes but now when I go to enter my credentials for the apple id activation (that I know to a T is correct) it says it's wrong. Thought changing my password would help, but again the 2 factor gets in the way and still doesn't work. This is over the course of a day and I'm at a complete loss, I feel like I'm loosing my mind. Sorry I know this is long and probably annoying but I need help asap, I'm a tattoo artist and I bought the pad for doing artwork and I'm kinda depending on it atm. Any help is really appreciated. Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:51 PM PDT I've switched to an android for now (not that I hate iPhones) and decided to take out my old iphone I haven't touched for over a year to test something about the camera. When I plugged it in I knew it was gonna take a while before I'll start seeing any action. 1 hour passed I didn't see anything light up on the screen when I pressed the power button, so I just left it there for a little longer. 1 day passed Everything was still unresponsive (it isn't the screen because I'm not getting feedback from the home button) so I decided to take it to the apple store to get it checked. They plugged it in to their little gadgets and said it wasn't working and gave me a vague explanation that it could be the motherboard. I did some research because I know the motherboard doesn't just "stop working" so I did some research about phone batteries because it had to be the culprit. I read in a forum deep in google search that leaving batteries without using them can cause permanent damage, but I wasn't so sure about that. So does storing an iphone without using it for a long period of time cause damage to the battery? TL;DR: Plugged in iPhone that's been stored away for a long time (almost a year) and didn't turn on. Don't know if it's the battery or something else. [link] [comments] |
Is there a trick to getting “hey siri” to work? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:42 PM PDT 99% of the time, I'm in a quiet room and speak in a normal speaking voice to a device (iPhone or iPad) within 6 feet and it doesn't wake up. I have the top 3 options turned on in settings - including listen for hey Siri and listen when locked. I don't know that I can speak louder or clearer so I'm baffled here. I feel like the problem is with me though because it has hardly ever worked at all. The one instance siri always hears me is in the car when I say hey Siri take me home. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:26 PM PDT hello all, I posted this in r/MacOS about losing battery in on Mojave and I thought I'd also post here because none of the fixes seem to be working. I did a little more digging to see if I could find any other solutions and I found a video which prompted me to enter this command into Terminal: After entering, I got this:
This is the first time I've been able to clearly see something is draining my battery overnight, until it eventually dies and I plugged it in earlier today. Does anyone understand any of this? I tried googling some of the words but I can't really understand much of it. Sorry for formatting and if this isn't the right place to post this, thank you for all your help! [link] [comments] |
Drawing software without flashing or blinking elements? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:21 PM PDT Hi, I have a strobe sensitivity and visual motion sensitivity. So flashing and blinking elements can trigger my migraines, as can animated zooming, animated rotations, and so on. I use defaults write -g NSTextInsertionPointBlinkPeriod -float 10000, and similarly with PeriodOn and PeriodOff, which works for some blinking and flashing in some applications. I also use certain apps with their own settings, or which use the reduced motion pref to disable blinking. I also have coordination problems and repetitive stress injuries. I used to use LibreOffice for writing and drawing. I later switched to NeoOffice for writing, because the defaults write fix works with text in NeoOffice. But I still can't use it for drawing, because the defaults write fix diesn't work with blinking around selected objects. And I have trouble using it for spreadsheets for the same reason. I also tried Graphic, but had to give up on it due to blinking cursors. I also tried Ink, but could never get it working. I currently use nanDeck, inside Wineskin, to design cards. I can use Wineskin's win.ini to disable cursor blinking there. I figure I need:
I am having a lot of trouble finding accessibility info for drawing apps, and I have unusual accessibility needs. [link] [comments] |
Should I replace my MBA (mid-2012) battery? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:34 PM PDT Battery info: https://imgur.com/a/pxZyc7t It's a Macbook Air (13 inch, mid-2012) and it's done me so, so well over the years. However, it has gradually had issues. The 'Service Battery' warning has been displayed for the longest time, and the battery certainly doesn't last as long. I went into a repair shop nearby and asked about it, but the repair tech shrugged it off and said a couple of hours is still good. I used 'Battery Health 2' to get some more info about the condition of the battery and attached the results. 889 cycles, 6.6 years old, 5011 out of 6700 mAh remaining. Surely that's enough to justify a replacement? I'm also experiencing ghost touches on my trackpad so I've had to switch to a bluetooth mouse. The speakers no longer work, either. Rough ballpark, but what should I expect to pay for a battery replacement + potentially a trackpad and speaker fix? Thanks! Edit: the current max increased after I took a screenshot of the battery app. The very same app is saying I have 15 minutes left, but I just got the low battery warning and am now at 4%...
