TIP: Hold the 'option' key and tap the Notification Centre icon to toggle Do Not Disturb Posted: 05 Sep 2019 10:01 AM PDT Just discovered this while playing with menubar items. Not sure if it's well known or how long it's been here for but thought I'd share! [link] [comments]
SECURITY Question. I'm genuinely concerned...Pls help Posted: 05 Sep 2019 09:33 PM PDT The problem is on my MBP 13, 2017. Running Mojave Version 10.14.6 I created a separate password protected drive on my mac. It contains personal information, and I seldom access it. However, ever time I do, it requests my password, which when I enter, I'm allowed into the folder. Then I eject when I'm done using it. I've had this for several months now. But ever since today, I randomly get a pop-up asking me to enter the password to access "Personal.dmg" (which is what I named it). This is only supposed to happen if I click on the drive to open it, but I haven't touched it at all. I haven't gone to any fishy sites or anything at all, except yesterday I downloaded a large PDF doc (for school purposes) through a public Google Drive. Google Drive scans for viruses before downloading, and I have no clue how a .pdf file could contain harmful content.. could it? I've also recently plugged in a few USBs, which I never do. This pop-up requesting my password has started right after both these things, which I imagine could be the only two reasons for this. Either it's a virus issue, or it's glitching out. Either way I'm worried, this is my main computer, and I really need it. More than that, that drive contains seriously revealing info, and now I don't know if I should log in to delete the docs or what. I'm sry for long post, but I'm concerned and freaking out. Please tell me it's just a glitch. [link] [comments]

Free MagicPrefs type Magic Mouse Middle Click alternative? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 11:14 PM PDT Hello all, I'm still hanging on to my installation of 10.12, but Magic Prefs has started acting up, so I'm looking for and alternative now, and when I update my OS I'd still like that same middle click functionality that Magic Prefs had. Many thanks. [link] [comments]

Bluetooth on my Macbook is apparently dying as I can rarely ever get anything to connect Posted: 05 Sep 2019 05:15 PM PDT So does anyone know of a USB bluetooth dongle that will work with Macs? I've got a mid-2012 Macbook Pro and everything else seems to work perfectly fine so still going to hold on to this. Looking to buy it off Amazon. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Sep 2019 02:45 PM PDT I am wanting to downgrade from Mojave to El Capitan, so I need to make a boot disk. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help with. I backed up using time machine on a 1tb external drive.
Any help is appreciated!! [link] [comments]
Why is there such a long delay from when my iPhone gets texts to when my iMac sees it? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 06:29 PM PDT I'm running iOS12 on my iPhone XR, iOS 11 on my iPad Pro (Wi-Fi), and High Sierra on my 2017 iMac. Every instance where I get a text message to my iPhone my iPad also gets it almost instantly, but my iMac still has to wait a few minutes before I get the notification. Why is that? How to catch on MacOS? (Former Windows User) Posted: 05 Sep 2019 07:38 AM PDT I need some help Redditors, I have been dabbling in Windows and computers since pretty much the day I was born. I grew up not to like Apple and it's products honestly. Things have changed and their support and streamlined everything has put them on top. Went from Android to iOS in 2015 and made the switch from Windows to Mac early 2019(I have both) I don't feel like a computer whiz the way I did on XP/Vista. I started going outside :( But now I want to catch up and get hip to all the little keyboard shortcuts, handy third party apps, terminal commands, all that other cool stuff I forgot :( :( :( Where do I start? What are some resources to help me get up to speed to a Mac whiz?(Even down to the hardware if that's important) [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Sep 2019 09:39 AM PDT FileVault is said to be an FDE yet it can be turned on and off way after initial instillation; how is this possible? I understand with FileVault 2 it now encrypts not only the Home directory but also much of the boot process but then how does it differ from LUKS (An Ubuntu FDE) or Bitlocker (for Windows); both of which have to be installed at OS installation time? And yes know there are the partial Disk Encryption methods now like LUKS In-Place Encryption. Also, if you turn these two on after the fact they erase the current data stored, but this is not the case on macOS; why is that? In summary, I want to know how/why FileVault (2) is still considered a Full Disk Encryption method if it can be switched on and off even after OS installation? [link] [comments]
2012 MBA - Any way of increasing battery life? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 04:13 AM PDT I understand this may be a lost cause given the 600+ battery cycles but even then this laptop drains battery WAY faster than expected - lucky to even get 1 or 2 hours on lowest brightness with very basic programs open (no chrome). Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to reduce it? Thanks. EDIT: On MacOS 10.14.6, 4GB RAM model with i5-3317U and 64GB storage. [link] [comments] |
