Remote session like RDP for Windows Posted: 25 Sep 2019 12:37 AM PDT Hey there! I want to remote control my iMac. Normally I could do this by using Teamviewer or VNC or something like that. Problem is, that when I use one of those, the main screen is "visible" to any other person in the room and they see what I am doing. Is there any software, that will lock the main screen and just make the screen visible to me like Windows with their RDP session does? Best regards [link] [comments]
Uninstalling default fonts (too many fonts causing slowdowns ?) Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:41 PM PDT Is it possible to uninstall default fonts from macOS which I basically never use? Also, does having many installed fonts cause any slowdowns to my MB (MBPro 13") I have many additional .otf/.ttf font families (really a lot 😃) on my MB because I make a lot of posters, presentations and graphics overall. I've read somewhere that the MB must load all its fonts at the startup and during some processes. Is it true? Would it help if I uninstall the fonts that I don't need at the moment and install them back when necessary? I suppose that there won't be any cache memory left after repeated adding/removing fonts, would be? I know when you install third party apps they usually store some data in the library folder even after its removal (I don't use anything like CleanMyMac or such because its usually even worse, imo). Does fonts work the same as apps? Thanks! 🙂 [link] [comments]

Is there any way to increase FaceTime audio volume? Posted: 24 Sep 2019 05:45 PM PDT Hey all, My FaceTime calls on my MacBook Pro are super quiet compared to those on my iPhone 8. Is there any way to increase the volume? Maybe it's because I'm used to using Boom 2 for my audio and it disables itself when FaceTime is active, but it's just so quiet. So, is there any way to make these calls louder? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Downloaded video screen rotation Posted: 24 Sep 2019 06:49 PM PDT Downloaded the Catalina beta today. Everything is running smoothly. Downloaded video from internet. Video plays but screen is rotated +90 degrees. Has this happened to anyone else or know how to fix it? [link] [comments]
Any remote desktop / remote access programs that still support Mavericks 10.9.5 in 2019? Posted: 24 Sep 2019 06:07 PM PDT Anyone know of any programs that I can use to access Mavericks systems? TeamViewer doesn't work and AnyDesk doesn't either. Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Cannot play any music purchased from Bandcamp in the Music app? Posted: 24 Sep 2019 04:51 PM PDT I'm on the latest Catalina beta and it still does not play any music from Bandcamp or other sources. Any help? [link] [comments]
Does anyone have MacOS 10.14.3 install Posted: 24 Sep 2019 04:25 PM PDT I need to downgrade a MacBook to MacOS 10.14.3, does anyone have a ISO of it? Cheers in advance. [link] [comments]
Stuck with El Capitan 10.11.6: What could happen? Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:41 AM PDT My Macbook Pro 15" Mid-2009 still works like a charm, despite not being able to upgrade to more recent versions of Mac OS. I appreciate being able to use my own copy of Photoshop CS4 (to create digital art) instead of having to subscribe to Adobe CC. However, being stuck with El Capitan has its issues:
I'm looking to get a new 13" Macbook (Pro or Air) but would like to hang on to my old MBP for a little longer. Do you guys can predict how long it could last? [link] [comments]
How do I cancel an iCloud folder being downloaded to Finder? Posted: 24 Sep 2019 09:54 AM PDT I was trying to attach a file to an email, and when I was searching the file browser I double clicked on "Documents" because the file is in a sub-directory but for some reason Mail just attached the whole unzipped Documents folder to the email rather than let me continue browsing through the contents. I removed the attachment and just used drag-&-drop to attach the correct file, but this mistake initiated iCloud Drive to start downloading the entire Documents folder. I have tried quitting Finder and even restarting my laptop altogether but Finder seems determined to download all documents which would take hours since it's quite large. How to do I cancel this? Everytime I google my problem I just get 101 webpages about cancelling my iCloud subscription. Also when I click on the progress pie-chart on the tab for iCloud Drive in Finder, it opens a small pop-up window but the circular x-button to cancel the download is greyed out? Magic Trackpad doesn't zoom right in Safari Posted: 24 Sep 2019 01:34 PM PDT I'm having problems pinching to zoom in Safari with a trackpad. I can zoom in once, but then I have to do the gesture twice to zoom back out. Then I have to do the gesture twice to zoom back in, etc. It doesn't do this with stuff like Preview and pictures. It happens on Mojave and Catalina, across user accounts, and I don't remember it being like this before. Is it just me? [link] [comments]

Compiling MacPorts on Catalina Posted: 24 Sep 2019 11:22 AM PDT I started playing with Catalina a couple of weeks ago, and and the first thing I started missing were my third party command line tools from MacPorts. There were some slight tweaks to the hand-compile process, so I did a quick write-up in case anyone else is having issues. https://www.ghostwheel.com/2019/09/05/installing-macports-on-macos-10-15-catalina-beta-7/ [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Sep 2019 09:41 AM PDT This is a small annoyance, and I am wondering whether I can save myself a few clicks when receiving student work. When I download all assignments from my university Learning Management System, I get a zip file with a separate folder for each student. Is there a way of opening all the folders at once, so I can start grading the files inside each folder? Not that it should matter, as this is a Finder function: my mac runs Mojave. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide. [link] [comments]
Why is my iPhone getting a "Reddit from "X mackbook pro" on it when I double tap home? Posted: 24 Sep 2019 09:33 AM PDT I double tap the home button on my iPhone and for the first ever, I see this bubble/notice at the bottom of the screen that has the Reddit icon and says "Reddit" on one line and "from Karl's MacBook Pro" When I open it, it brings up Safari with a page loaded on it. I don't use Safari and it is the name of my MacBook Pro. Somehow Reddit is sending me a link or something and I've never seen this happen before and I'd like to know what it is and how to stop it. Seems like some link passing thing. Now as I write this, it just went away and I did nothing to make it go away. I was on the double tap home (app switcher) screen on the iPhone. iOS 13 / Catalina [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Sep 2019 08:22 AM PDT Hey everyone, looking to buy a 2019 MBA for college. I'm not sure if I could get away with the 128gb or 256gb model. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
