OLED PWM Results: 290.7 Hz on iPhone 11 Pro Posted: 25 Sep 2019 04:08 AM PDT It doesn't matter to me if you're affected by PWM flicker, or if you believe it's a collective delusion that some portion of this population experiences. This is just presenting the information collected in the wonderful review over at notebookcheck. Here's the relevant part, emphasis mine:
I believe all their reviews are translated, so ignore any quirky language. Here's a comparison:
Note that there are a few conflicting reports on whether OLED iPhones using PWM dimming for all brightness levels below 100%, or if it only kicks in under 50% brightness (or something in-between). It could be based on how it's being measured, or it may have changed between generations. The frequency measurement also doesn't factor in the amplitude of the modulation (and also maybe duty cycle?), which may or may not affect the level of fatigue experienced. From here, which gets its figures from this review. Apple seems to be trying to follow the right steps to mitigate eye-strain caused by PWM flickering (duty cycle mentioned in this REWA article). Note that the iPhone 11 does not use PWM dimming. That shouldn't need to be said, but if these results are to be believed, Apple implemented PWM dimming in the updated (LCD) iPod Touch this year, for whatever reason. [link] [comments]
Apps are launching ridiculously faster on iOS 13.1 on iPhone 8 Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:57 AM PDT It's like having a brand new phone. It is amazing how much faster the phone is running in all areas, since upgrading to 13.1. The change is obvious. [link] [comments]

Impressed with performance of iPhone 6s plus Posted: 25 Sep 2019 05:20 AM PDT Hi everyone. I am using iPhone 6s plus with iOs 13.1 (two weeks have passed since i took the phone). This is my first apple device. I used couple of different brand android phones between 2010-2019. I want to say, i am very impressed. This is a phone released back in 2015 and it is still so smooth and fast. Its battery (with %90 health) lasts all day. Apps are launching almost instantly there is no lags, freezes or hiccups. If this is so fast i can't imagine performance of the ones released in 2019. Using an android device which is released back in 2015? I bet it would be a very slow and painful experience. I am kind of broke so i just wanted to get a cheap second hand phone. I am happy I got this instead of giving my hard earned money to an android phone. Seems like iphone 6s plus will handle me for a long time. I don't want to start an android apple war here, i just wanted to share my opinion. I don't know how Apple did it, but it's like this phone never gets old. [link] [comments]

iOS 13 completely ruined 3D Touch on my iPhone X Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:47 AM PDT Hey everyone. I haven't seen anything regarding this topic so I thought I'd bring it up. Ever since updating to iOS 13, it feels like 3D Touch is completely gone on my iPhone X. Everything feels like a long press (I compared it with my brothers XR) as opposed to actually pressing on the display. Peeking/Popping does not work on Twitter or Instagram. Even the shortcuts for apps is a long press, as if I never had 3D Touch. All I do is long press and it brings up a small preview window, but doesn't let me press in to go further. I mean, everything from the iPhone 6S to the XS have the physical hardware for 3D Touch, so did they disable it or am I just crazy? Anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Sep 2019 09:17 AM PDT To distract myself from constantly staring at UPS tracking and following my yellow 11's every single move (that just left Alaska) I've been shopping for cases. But seeing that this is my first non-grey/black iPhone Im concerned that it just won't look right in some cases and I saw that casetify has options to see every iphone color in their cases I just don't like their over the top cases. Is there anywhere else with good quality cases and similar features? [link] [comments]
Siri on iPhone 11 Pro only listens to it's owner.... Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:29 AM PDT Has really no one noticed? Can't find anything on the web about this... on iPhone 11 Pro (and only Pro, not the regular one or any older one), once you train "Hey, Siri", it would appear that phone only reacts when called by it's owner. Neat! :) [link] [comments]

Series 5 Watch shows the future iPhone's Always On Display Posted: 25 Sep 2019 10:08 AM PDT It was probably obvious to everyone else, but I just realized that the Series 5 watch shows us how Apple will likely implement an Always On Display on the iPhone. The watch is usually a testing ground for Apple's screen tech (OLED, Force/3D Touch). With the addition of an adaptive refresh rate display, they'll probably have the AOD in color (unlike the black and white of most phones), running at 1hz, just like the new watch. I would guess that we will see that added next year, with a bump up to 120hz in 2021, since they obviously wont add both major features in one year, especially if there really is a design refresh. I also figure we will see the watch get a 120hz display next year. [link] [comments]

Siri & Suggestions - iPhone disappointment Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:55 AM PDT Hi, I am very disappointed with my iPhone. It seems Apple is taking a new aggressive step in advertising akin to Facebook and Google. Under settings>Siri & Search I disabled all the tabs to turn off Siri & Suggestions. Or at least I thought I did until I was using Safari and noticed that Siri is suggesting products via my recent text message conversations. I learned that even though I turned off the toggles on Siri it did not actually turn off Siri. Instead, Apple expects me to waste half an hour (or more) to go through each app independently and turn off Siri&Sugestions per App. This is not only deceiving, it's also tedious for users. What is happening with the direction Apple is taking here? Is this in an effort for Apple to comb through all my apps and take my information in preparation for the Apple Credit Card to be marketed towards me? I can't overstate how frustrating this is. It seems like a tactic Facebook uses with deceiving privacy options. Thanks for listening to me vent! [link] [comments] |
