Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - September 23, 2019

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 09:10 PM PDT

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Testing new controller update on iOS 13 with GTA x Xbox controller

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 06:37 AM PDT

I think ‘WHAT THE GOLF?’ is becoming the next Ridiculous Fishing! Loving the attention to detail, changing and silly gameplay, and easy touchscreen controls.

[Meta] Can we get an Arcade flair?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 09:30 AM PDT

It would be nice to know at a glance whether a game being discussed in a post is exclusive to the Apple Arcade or not.

Does iOS 13 support “off brand” PS4/XboxOne controllers? My kids have a bit of amazon money and would like controllers but if we can get them a little cheaper it would be nice. (We don’t own either system.)

While everyone’s freaking out about Arcade, I finally decided to get this beast of a game and love every second of it. What a time to be an iOS gamer!

There’s a whole load of great text-based games out there. What are your faves?

Love this genre doesn't get nearly enough attention. Who needs graphics when you have your whole imagination? :-)

    Controller clip recommendations

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 09:15 AM PDT

Somebody please recommend us all some good controller clips, hopefully ones that you can personally vouch for.

I am personally looking for a clip to use with my PS4 controller.

What have you been playing on Apple Arcade?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 03:19 PM PDT

So Apple Arcade has been out for a while now and I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are so far. What have you been playing and what else would you recommend from Arcade? Any games you perhaps didn't like or having issues with? Let's talk about it!

The game I've been hooked on the most is Chu Chu Rocket Universe. What a great little puzzle game! It reminds me a bit of Lemmings with a dash of Super Mario Galaxy. You control little Chu Chu's back to their spaceship using directional arrows you place on the floor tiles. I'm on the 3rd constellation and things are starting to get a bit tricky.

Also I've been loving Assemble With Care, a short narrative game where you play as a repairwoman. The actual gameplay is a bit short, you only fix one item per chapter, but the story and characters are very charming! I'm about an hour in and halfway done with the game so it's fairly short, but it's just very relaxing and calming to play.

    What have you been playing?

Any games out there that are:?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 01:03 AM PDT

Any games out there that throw you out into the world after a mini tutorial (or not) and leave you there to fend for yourself? Kinda like a Skyrim mmo? Where you don't choose a class and level up what you use? Kind of like runescape? I don't care if it's isometric or 3D but I don't enjoy pixel art graphics

    Oceanhorn2 guide?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 02:43 AM PDT

Does anybody know if a guide for it has been made yet? I've honestly never felt so lost while playing a game before.

DS4 to iPhone X mount / clip recommendations?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 04:31 PM PDT

Having just gotten the iOS 13 update, and bunch of Arcade games to play, I'm now looking for a decent clip for my DS4 controller. I mention that it's for the X specifically in case some clips might have an impact on the larger screen.

Anyone got any advice or recommendations? I don't need anything fancy, it just has to (physically) support the phone. I use a case; I don't know if that needs to be considered.

How's Apple Arcade if you only have a touchscreen?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2019 10:01 PM PDT

So like I said, I only have a touchscreen and generally don't like twitchy reflex games on mobile. I didn't even like Severed all that much. There's a couple that look cool, like What the Golf and Assemble with care, but it seems like the focus is more on games copying more traditional video games and are better suited for a controller.

Those of you on the Arcade, do you use controllers? Are there enough games with touch controls and no fast reflexes to make it worthwhile, or is it really geared more to people with more of a "gaming setup?" Thanks.

Is Apple Arcade finally available for the iPad?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 02:16 AM PDT

I'm using iPad OS Dev Beta 4 and up till now when trying to switch to the Apple Arcade tab in the app store an error message came up but now I have the option to subscribe but it still says that it is coming soon for the iPad.
So is it out yet or no? I don't want to subscribe and lose days because I wouldn't be able to use it
