Do I need an Apple TV with my new Samsung TV with Airplay built in?

Is it wise to buy an Apple TV when it looks like the Samsung TV (Q80r) has airplay and the Apple TV app built in on it? Does the apple TV offer better resolution and sound vs the built in apps? Thank you.

ATV4K not matching HDR and Dolby Vision properly.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 05:22 PM PDT

Recently my ATV4K will display HDR/Dolby Vision very dark. I have 'Match Content' on and it's on the latest build.

Prior to the recent update I could turn my TV on/off and it would display properly. However, the latest update, which I thought would correct the issue, made it worse. Now power cycling the TV does not help.

If you have any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

How do you organize your Apple TV for maximum viewing?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 12:45 AM PDT

I'll try to keep this short. So I'm excited for all these services coming like Apple Arcade, TV+, and Disney + On top of that Football season just started. So I wanna try to find a way to maximize my viewing from the Apple TV app. I wanna learn more about channels and how I could integrate that into my viewing pleasure. I guess I'm just looking for inspiration from what you guys set ups look like so I can test out different things to try myself.

Do you find HDMI-CEC to be reliable?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:28 AM PDT

Do you find that your Apple TV remote is reliable in terms of turning on and off your TV?

I have a 10 year old Samsung with an Apple TV (non-4k) and I've always found that when I turn on the Apple TV with the remote, it will turn on the Samsung (via CEC), however when I turn off the Apple TV, it does NOT turn off the Samsung. It just says it's "Disconnecting Anynet+ device" and then I have to manually turn off my Samsung TV via the Samsung remote.

Well, I just got a new TV (LG C8) and I'm wondering if buying an Apple TV 4K would allow CEC to work for both on and off. Does my old TV not turn off just because it's old and there's some compatibility issue, or is this an inherent problem with HDMI-CEC, which is known to be unreliable?

For those of you with an Apple TV 4K and a modern TV (especially an LG OLED), does the Apple remote work reliably with the TV?

    Thanks.

Is there any reason for me to get this? Have Sony X900f

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 10:53 AM PDT

I have a X900F and comcast cable. I usually stream apps with Vudu and also have a ps4 pro. Ive read that streaming with an Apple Tv happens to have the best quality while researching something else.

Would streaming through the Apple Tv somehow look better than using my TVs Vudu app? And are there any other benefits itd bring? I literally have no idea what this does or how it would help someone who already has a Tv that can connect to the internet/stream.

    tvOS 13 Beta 8 (?)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:31 AM PDT

I just got a new beta update last night -- 17J5564c. I assume this is beta 8, since beta 7 came out Aug 15. Haven't noticed anything different yet, but also haven't seen any blog posts about this, so thought I'd mention it.

Can you sign in to the hbo channel using my own hbo subscription?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 05:49 AM PDT

So I'm checking out the tv app and looking at the channels, there is no way to log in, all i see is the "try it free" prompts which then subscribes you after a week.

I already have an hbo subscription through att and was wondering if I'm able to use that to login to the tv channel app? :)

Or if I'm out of luck and still have to use hbogo/hbonow to playback movies
