iPad Mini 5 & iPhone Xr size comparison ?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 01:23 PM PDT

I've got an iPhone Xr and I've been thinking of ordering an iPad Mini 5 online but I've been worried that the Mini isn't that much bigger than the Xr (7.9 vs 6.1 inch screen). I've tried searching for photos/videos online comparing them but I haven't found anything. Does anyone have these two devices ? How do they compare ? Can anyone send a photo/video of them ? Or should I just get an iPad Air 3 ?

Anybody here have the LOGI Focus keyboard for their ipad mini 4? Wondering if its hackable to make it fit with the ipad mini 5...

    Posted: 16 May 2019 11:56 AM PDT

I really want to have a keyboard case for the ipad mini 5 but none exist and there is no word on when or even if it will come. I saw the logi focus keyboard case for the ipad mini 4 and i know its not a perfect fit but im wondering if anybody has tried to use it with their new ipad mini 5? If I have to hack it to make the volume buttons not be covered up i will i suppose...But if anyone has tried using it please let me know what your thoughts are.

How do I cast showbox from a Samsung Galaxy S8 to an iPad Air 2?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 02:50 PM PDT

Normally I'd use Netflix to watch things, however UK Netflix sucks and doesn't have the things I want to watch.

How do I go about this? Thanks

Audio Recording and Editing on iPad Pro

    Posted: 16 May 2019 08:52 AM PDT

We regularly have folks going back and forth as to whether an iPad Pro can replace a MacBook. I have never seen much discussion about the possibility of doing decent audio recording and editing on an iPad. I record podcast interviews regularly. Right now on my Mac I use Skype and Audio Hijack and then edit with Adobe Audition.

Is there anyone out there who uses your iPad for this kind of work? I'd love to try, but I definitely don't want to make things more troublesome as it might be.

    Thanks!

Best app for creating slides for billboard at work?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 06:37 AM PDT

We have a small billboard outside the theatre where I work (theatre & conference center on University campus). I have to make slides for it, typically it is just adding text to an image, or throwing some text on a solid color background. On my PC I use Photoshop, but I don't always carry my laptop with me and am looking for something to use on my iPad (I have a 9.7" and a pro 11").

I've made a few using Adobe Spark, but adding images to it can be a real pain (sometimes I need to add a visiting group's logo to a slide welcoming them). When it is just text it is pretty good.

I have also need with ( but not made slides with) Lightroom, PS express, Snapseed, sketches school, sketchbook, canva, & Adobe sketch. At first glance none of those really seem to fit the bill (but if someone bag more experience with one I'll gladly delve deeper into one).

Image requirements for the billboard are 320x128px 72+ DPI (I prefer 144 but you can't really tell on the sign the difference) rbg saved in jpeg or PNG. I can control the size in Spark, but I've not found settings for RGB or DPI. But since the sign hasn't kicked any images back it appears to be okay.

I've looked at procreate and am willing to pay if it is a one time fee, (this is a purchase to make my life easier, work won't pay for it. I'm not looking to get into subscription apps) and will do what I need for it to do.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

iPad Pro 2017 pencil writing always a little squiggly...because of screen protector?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 06:22 AM PDT

I have a 12.9 2017 IPad Pro that I do daily note taking with at work. I've had a super solid thick tempered glass screen protector on it since day one. What I've noticed when writing and also seeing videos of other people writing on it on YouTube, is that while their writing and lines are smooth, I absolutely can't produce letters and lines that aren't squiggly and shaky looking. The slower I write the more wobbly it looks. I'm not a professional artist but I know my hand control is better than these results as I can write on paper really really neatly and perfectly if I want to. Is. It because of the screen protector? Do you think it's because of how smooth it is? This tempered glass screen protector is ridiculously smooth to the touch like butter. It's really nice for actual touch input and typing with fingers but doesn't offer control for writing. Or is it because the glass protector is thicker than plastic protectors and thus the pencil top is farther away from the screen than it should be and there's some confusion within the detection and screen or whatever?

    Ipad/ios transferring files

    Posted: 16 May 2019 07:27 AM PDT

Hi guys, sorry if these questions sounds dumb. I've only been an android phone/tablet user. I understand that you can't just connect an ipad to a windows laptop and it will treat it like an external hdd like an android device. You apparently have to go through itunes? I mostly use my tablet for reading downloaded epubs and manga(cbz/zip/rar files). Can i transfer those kinds of files from my pc(or usb thumbdrive) to an ipad? And is there an ios app for reading downloaded manga with cbz files? Tnx

Unlocking an iPad with an Apple Watch

    Posted: 16 May 2019 03:33 AM PDT

Why don't we have this feature?! The same feature that is used to unlock a MacBook I think would be perfect for the iPad. I just keep thinking about it and can't believe we never got that feature implemented.

Anyone here bring their iPad AND Macbook as EDC? How do you deal with the weight?

    Posted: 16 May 2019 12:44 AM PDT

I usually just have to bring my Macbook Pro (2015) (which I bought back in Dec 2017, yes I bought it over the newer versions due to the keyboard + ports), since I mostly deal with programming. And before, I usually bring my iPad Mini 4 (I read on the train) as well. Now I have an iPad 6th gen (2018), where I use it for reading on the train and of course handwritten notes as well with the Apple Pencil. So this combo is now heavier. I'm a part-time working grad student btw.

I usually bring my phone, Macbook's charger, and a small extension cord with me. And my compact camera as well as 2DS XL. And then of course there's the bottle of water and a really light jacket... and then the tiny bits of daily essentials e.g. toiletries that just add up.

I bought a new backpack, the North Face Jester Women's size for ergonomics over my Case Logic one before. And the weight distribution is indeed better, such that now I don't have the pinching back pain. But at times I still have some sort of back pain or back strain at the upper back.

What do you guys do? Are there back strengthening exercises you can recommend? Or backpack adjustments? I know the easiest solution is just really lessen what I bring on a daily basis... but I really am not sure how to approach this.

Moving my Mom from iPad 3 to newest iPad. How can I carry over... candy crush (yes) without loss of progress. (really)

    Posted: 15 May 2019 06:15 PM PDT

So my mother has an iPad 3, and it's dying. I have a new iPad for her, but she's scared of losing her candy crush progress. Problem is she is paranoid so never made a facebook login, so she would lose all her progress (she has spent hundreds of $$ on this game, yes...)

I have to port the data and progress exactly.

Is this possible? I'm not a mac or iPad person, so advice is appreciated.

    Need help finding a case!

    Posted: 15 May 2019 05:58 PM PDT

I've been searching all over the internet but I can't find any good cases for the newest iPad Pro (2018) that don't have a Smart Cover. The only ones I can find are either big a bulky, or clear.

I'm just looking for a solid black (other other solid color) case without a cover.

    Anyone know of any?

iPad Pro 2018 HDR and Youtube

    Posted: 15 May 2019 05:39 PM PDT

Hello. I just have a question and it seems that I could not find the answer for. Does the iPad Pro (2018) have the HDR option when playing an HDR video on Youtube?

Opinion: iPad Pro 12.9 with Logitech Keyboard Folio!

    Posted: 15 May 2019 08:22 PM PDT

Opinion: iPad Pro 12.9 with Logitech Keyboard Folio!

Finally, I have decided on the purchase, and the keyboard has arrived.

    User persona in my case:

    1. Actively take notes using Apple Pencil
      1. The keyboard accessory must not disturb me from putting the iPad flat.
    2. Keyboard should have decent tactile feedback. Call me an old-school, but 'thinness' did not justify the compromise made on the tactile feedback.
      1. I'm sorry Apple keyboard
    3. Home button is needed.
      1. Apple's UI is great, I like switching between different apps, however when I am using the Keyboard, swiping or pinching is awkward.

    Not so conservative, is it?

Logitech Folio case was an option 1. It looks awesome, and since I am not exposed to offline stores much, so I had to

strictly rely on Youtube reviews, it looked great.

Another was Brydge Keyboard. It is a start-up and I always enjoy supporting a quality start-up company, so it looked great. Although now I am a Windows Desktop user, I used Macbook previously (2009-2018), so the design aspect was quite attractive.

One thing I didn't like about the design, is the fact that the design looks unstable. When the hinge part grabs the iPad, and you continuously open and close, I was worried if it can damage the iPad. (hysterical from Fold-gate)

    This accessory is great.

Syncs perfectly, tactile feel is spot-on! I am so happy. My endorphine level is at its best. Oh boy.
