Tropico for iPhone quick take? City builder with no IAP done right: Hail to the king baby!... but it's not for everyone...

    Posted: 01 May 2019 05:48 AM PDT

I'll try to keep this short for those interested.

I got the game for iPhone 6s on day 1.

Game was installed and played on iPhone only. I never played Tropico on iPad.

    So, what is it?

    Sim City with no IAPs.

Game is a true simulation. This is it's biggest advantage and even bigger downfall.

    How does it look?

Fantastic. Graphics are mind boggling good. When you build a building you'll actually see side-pols going up first if you zoom in. Level of detail is ridiculous.

On 6s game runs smoothly, not as hard as Civ IV on a battery but have charger handy

if you're playing this on morning commute. You'll need to top up that battery to get you trough

rest of the day after full session of Tropico.

Panning, zooming and rotating cameras all work as it should.

Not sure if I'd call controls intuitive but you get used to it quickly.

Also, you'll get lost quickly. "Where the f... am I and where should I go next?"

Will be a common questions here. You'll 60-70% of time zooming around and navigating.

Some will find this frustrating but for those who like Sim City this is half the fun.

    Depth?

Depth is incredible. Again this is games biggest fault.

It feels like that at any given point in time you have 1000s of things to manage and think about.

    You'll have to prioritize.

    Length of play?

This is not 2 min at a time game. Set a side 20 min minimum - preferably longer than that, per sitting.

You can play in shorter time increments but if you do you're risking that you'll forget WTF you were doing

last time so you'll spend time checking status of things every time you start the game. This is time consuming.

    Text and buttons?

All good. Every button is easy to press. Text is big enough to read.

Perhaps I would like a "pause game" and "speed game" buttons to be a big bigger but no big deal.

    Complexity?

Just like in real life things are interconnected. Everything will affect everything else.

Plan your strategy to rule your kingdom wisely... help is thankfully available...

DO NOT skip a tutorial or you'll be utterly lost.

You'll spend at least 30% of the time just checking the status of things in order to decide what to do next.

Part of the problem is that your lumber building is at one point in map, your workers are at other point on map

and your furniture factory is at... you guessed it... at yet another point on the map. Chase all 3 down. Click

check stats, decide what to do next and proceed. Sometimes you have to watch workers walk around to see how the things could be better and yes, even clicking on worker to see how happy he is and what he needs to be happier is actually a very good idea. And just like in real life your workers will travel and resources need to be transported. So... placing a furniture factory too far away from lumberyard will mean that workers need extra time to get there so $$$ will arrive slower... you can actually see workers walking between buildings...

    Rinse and repeat.

All in all? Solid 85% score. This is brilliant game. But it's complexity sheer amount of things to control and react to

and micromanagement requirements are not for everyone. This is Sim City extreme with ridiculous amount of depth.

Is it worth it? Yes! Pocket city was a huge promise but it ended up as disappointment. Civ VI is turn

based to a point where it feels like mucho complex board game. But this? This is what

Sim City without IAPs should have been. If you like Sim City read no further go buy the game.

BUT! This is a full PC quality game. Even at 60 bucks this would be worth it for sheer amount of context and depth it offers.

Be ready to commit 40 hours or more of non stop play before you'll get anywhere. I can see myself playing this for well over 100

hours. I doubt that it will ever get boring but time will tell...

It's only serious downside is constant need to zoom and pan around rotating camera. Other problem is lenght of play with one sitting and complexity that was maybe taken a notch to far to extreme...

If you're looking for 2 min play here and there Tropico is just not for you. This is serious game for serious gamer. Casual players are better off spending money elsewhere.

I'm curious if there are any games that use features of phones in a way that you cant play them without using a phone. So like they use the orientation of the screen, the camera, gestures, all together.

Do you guys know of anything like that?

Games similar to Idle Heroes without gacha mechanics?

    Posted: 01 May 2019 12:18 AM PDT

Are there any idle-combat rpg games like Idle Heroes without gacha mechanics? I guess I'm looking for a game with the same idle combat, but with a focus on playing as and gearing up a set character/party. As in creating a character or party at the start and gearing them up through gameplay, rather than focusing on rng hero summons and spending grinded currencies to empower them. I don't have a preference whether it be party based or a single character, I just want an rpg I can play semi-afk. Preferably with little to no dialogue.

    Art Inc - save/restore.

    Posted: 01 May 2019 07:13 AM PDT

So i just downloaded this game - "Art Inc". Seems pretty fun. There was an option for FB connect, so i did it (in hopes that would restore my progress once deleted/reinstalled. So i played a while (1h i think) got some quests and stuff done and collected. Then i deleted to try restoring. When i re-downloaded the game it made me go tru the whole tutorial thing, when i logged in again, it just seemed to do that "login" nothing else. Didn't restore my progress or anything.

Anyone know if the has a restore option at all?

Games where grinding actually makes you better?

    Posted: 01 May 2019 08:10 AM PDT

Are there games available where grinding actually makes you better the more you grind?

I play Idle Heroes right now and have spent like $70 dollars on it so far but after doing some things there's nothing to do for a long time.

I have downtime throughout my day and would love to get on something and play here and there and make my characters more powerful and stuff and have things to do. I think that's why games like Warframe are so popular since you can effectively grind and get better.

Does something like this exist on IOS?

    Tales of Wind (MMORPG) released

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:07 PM PDT

New anime/cutesy casual MMO. I played closed beta and it was pretty aight.

Game has a ton of things to do, and while it does have auto play for quests and escort missions and stuff it's not available for about half the game modes. Does have IAP, no idea if it's P2W or not but I generally ignore PvP in these games anyway since it's a safe bet that part is P2W.

Anyway, pretty chill little game to mess around in when bored.

A competitive game focused on getting the best time on a leaderboard

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 07:29 PM PDT

I'm looking for a game in which you are able to compete for the top spot on an online time-based leaderboard.

One PC game that comes to mind is that marble game everyone was playing and streaming. You are able to improve on each level, cutting corners and finding new paths in order to perfect your time and get the top place.

It doesn't have to be marble themed, anything from marbles, to platformers, any game in which precision and timing is crucial to you getting the best time possible on a level.

Thanks! Looking forward to your suggestions.

Any good grand strategy game ?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:39 PM PDT

I'm a huge fan of the Total War series, as well as paradox games. I really enjoy the IOS version of Rome Total War, unfortunately I can't find any other game like this on the app store.

I wish there were more games of this kind. I'm not asking Warhammer 2 TW to be bring on iPhone, but some older games could. Medieval 2 will certainly be released at some point, but meanwhile I'm looking for something to play on the go. Knights of Honor and this kind of old but gold games would be awesome on mobile.

Do you have any idea of good games similar to these ? I'm looking for a paid game with no app purchases exclusively, I can't bear the P2W cashgrab mobile gaming has (overall) become

[Question] Turn based multiplayer games to play with someone in a different time zone?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 11:46 AM PDT

My friend is overseas right now and it is hard to find a time that we can both sit down and play a game together. We've done some iMessage games like Pool but is there any other game that we can take turns playing with each other?

What is the best puzzle/match3 RPG right now?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 04:47 PM PDT

I dabbled with Puzzles & Dragons and even though the concepts are very cool, the game is old. I was given literally the strongest units in the game 15 minutes into my play time literally ruining the game for me.

But I enjoyed the type of game it was. I'm interested in something more modern.

I tried Puzzles and Dungeons but I hate the whole base building portion of it. I downloaded Gems of War to try next but I hear very mixed things about it.

Any ideas on what else I should look at?

    Thanks!

A vaguely Roman-Gladiator themed fighting game similar to Infinity Blade?

    Posted: 30 Apr 2019 05:43 PM PDT

I remember playing its first episode and its sequel (2 separate apps) and quite liked it, anyone could remind me its name? I forgot the name of the two games and the only thing I remember is that the second one in the series was clearly designed to attract more micro-transactions and had more of a story to it - with its protagonist becoming forced to become a gladiator and fought his way till the end?
