| Posted: 14 May 2019 08:21 PM PDT So for the last 2-3 weeks, my wife's iPhone X has been a pain to get to charge. We would plug/unplug/plug the charger maybe 5-7 times before it would charge. Then over the weekend it became a good 30-50 times before it worked. Yesterday, it wouldn't charge at all. We've cleaned the charging port out, done hard resets, everything short of a factory reset. The device knows something is plugged in, because when the phone is powered off, and I plug it in, it reacts properly, but then when I unlock the device, it doesn't show that it's charging / doesn't charge. It appears to charge if I turn it off, plug in, and then power down. Any ideas what could be causing this mess? We have a genius bar appointment Friday where I have no doubt the phone will plug in and charge normally, so nothing will be resolved. [link] [comments]  |

First time was 2018 September. I put my computer on my table and when I come back the screen had stripes of black and grey on the top of the screen. After spending a lot of money to replace it, it broke again yesterday. Now it has stripes on the left and bottom of my screen, covering almost 40% of the whole screen. | Extreme system lag when using external screen on 2015 MBP, help! Posted: 14 May 2019 02:21 PM PDT Hello, I've been having this same problem for over a year now. Intro I've tried EVERYTHING (as far as I know) to no avail. I was about to do a clean install, which I've been avoiding for a year, but now it's become unbearable, but I said I'll ask for some counsel first. To be clear, I've been using the same Time Machine backup over 2 macbooks now so it's about 4 years old, and I used the machines A LOT for work. What's happening: Computer goes from slightly laggy to unusable whenever I start doing any intensive tasks especially anything related to fcpx or sometimes Adobe InDesign (not so much with Adobe PS though) only when using external screen. (Probably relevant: the only other time I get a lag WITHOUT screen is when playing Civ 6) Today it's particularly unbearable, I was editing on the external screen and things were getting laggy then the moment I tried exporting, the whole system got in slow motion and became pretty unusable, CPU was at constant 0.8ghz and stuck there until I unplugged the monitor after closing fcpx. When this happens, usually a restart solves the problem for an hour or 2 max, then the system gets in "holy sh*t" mode and won't stop until I unplug monitor and restart again. Have no idea what actually triggers this. Also it's rather chilly here today (13-15°C right now) and the machine temperature was more than normal for a macbook pro (between 72 and 85°C). So i don't see any heat problems. I keep my internal hard drive with more than 120gb at all times. I have almost zero useless software, I only keep what I use, no login items and no software running in the background except for a couple of tools that I need and trust. Full disclosure though: I used CleanMyMac for 2 or 3 months in the last year until I discovered folks here saying that's practically malware, so I removed it completely. What I tried: • SMC Reset (so many times) • NVPRAM (like once every 2 months) •I do major cleaning of my libraries and caches and general files every once in a while. I'm no expert though, so I have no idea what "clutter" is stuck under the hood after years of using the same backup — all I know is that my Apps and folders are nice and clean. • Had some disk issues errors in disk utility after AFPS but then I disabled my FileVault and fixed them all through Safe Mode • Downloaded Macs Fan control, and I noticed that even when I lower the fan speed, the temperature remains acceptable! (from 65/72 to 80-90 under heavy load) • Tried Apple Diagnostics and nothing seems wrong there, all hardware is running fine. • Tried creating a new user, the problem still appears • Got a compressed air dust cleaner and use it one every couple of months, everything looks mint under the aluminum, no dust there or blocage there • etc Let me know if you need any screenshots or logs I don't know what's exactly relevant. Should I try a clean install? It's a nightmare just to think about restoring every single software/plugin/account etc. Maybe an just OS reinstall via cmd+R ? TL;dR : MBP becomes unusable when doing intensive tasks with external screen plugged even though it should be more than capable of handling that. and more. Hardware: Macbook Pro 15inch mid 2015 with m370x and 500gb SSD. Monitor Dell UltraSharp U2415 1920x1200 using mini-display. Currently running Mojave 10.14.4. [link] [comments]  |
| iTunes takes forever to open on Windows 10 Posted: 14 May 2019 09:08 PM PDT I recently reformatted my computer and reinstalled windows 10 pro (64-bit). I installed iTunes via the Microsoft Store, since that's how I had it installed before the reformat and it ran flawlessly. Plus as infrequently as I use iTunes, it is helpful that the Microsoft Store automatically updates iTunes so that I don't need to update it every time I open the program. But now every single time I go to use iTunes, it takes up to 10 minutes for it to load. Here are my specs to show that it shouldn't be taking anywhere near that long: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4ghz 8gb ram all programs are installed on a 256gb SSD Windows 10 Pro x64 iTunes version 12.9.4.104 installed via the Microsoft Store I just remembered that right after the reformat, I disabled iTunes Helper and iTunes Mobile Device Helper from running at startup, to make things as snappy as possible. However, as a troubleshooting step, I have re-enabled those services to run at startup and it seems to have no effect. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments]  |
| Mid 2012 MacBook Pro intermittent freezing Posted: 14 May 2019 06:22 PM PDT I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro that all of a sudden has been having issues intermittently freezing while in use. I took it to a repair shop who charged me $110 for diagnosing and replacing a sata cable for my SSD. Tested the computer when I got home and the issue is still there. Took it back to the shop and they couldn't find anything causing it, said SSD seemed fine but to try and update the firmware. I have tried booting into safe mode and the issue persists. Purchased an external hard drive to back up but it is clearly having issues communicating with the SSD or something as it keeps freezing up. When in use on google chrome it will say "Waiting for cache", then the cursor will spin and nothing will work. Malware bytes found nothing. Not sure what other troubleshooting to do on Apple computers. I need to access the Canadian AppStore to download my new Banking app etc. I've tried switching the AppStore the way Apple recommends it on their website. But I doesn't work for me, I enter my new address, payment options and phone number yet every time the page crashes or once I'm done it tells me the info I've entered is wrong (for example sometime it tells me my debit card is not supposed to expire in the past ??? Which it doesn't since I got it yesterday) or it just straight up tells me I have a German account so I can't use the Canadian store. Is there any way I can change this ? The most intensive thing I've done while having these issues is having many tabs open and watching a video, while also having spotify and pdfs on. I've seen others do video editing or photoshop and have less problems than I do. Something I noticed, however, is that I usually close the lid instead of shutting it down. | Remove emails from iphone/Mail but keep on gmail server/account Posted: 14 May 2019 01:24 PM PDT iPhone 6- iOS 12.2 I have years worth, 1000s, of emails in the iPhone Mail app. I would like to delete the emails on the iPhone but keep them on the Gmail account. I mainly use the Gmail app on my phone and I do a majority of my managing on the web. I used Mail on a few occasions- like when you click a browser link to send an email, it may launch Mail. Or when sending an error log from an app, or sharing certain content. The workaround to delete a bulk of emails in Mail is not really working for me. I think that since it's trying to select so many emails at once, it's timing out or something and only moving a few at a time. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6831377 I have considered removing the account, but my Gmail is also my apple ID. I fear that the things that are associated with it will get messed up- Notes folder, calendars, calendar subscriptions, etc I did a chat with Apple- they had me turn off the gmail account for mail. When I turned it back on, it downloaded all my messages again. My hope is to delete emails from Mail, have Mail only download a certain amount of messages, so that I have only a months worth of emails to manage from the phone moving forward. Apple could not advise me on whether I need to change settings in gmail. What are the other things that I need to consider- POP vs IMAP? Again I only want to delete emails from my phone and keep them in my gmail account to access on the desktop or gmail app. I thought that I had my settings right previously, but turns that I deleted some emails from my account that I actually went looking for. Sadly, she got caught in a RIF wave and the enduring shame of getting walked out with her shit in a box. She had a standard corp laptop, phone and iPad. She asked what she should do with her devices, and the HR person didn't really know what to do. She handed in her badge, laptop, phone and iPad and boxed up her stuff. The HR person (for whatever reason) put the iPad into her box as she was leaving. Maybe some sort of guilty gift, dunno don't care, not looking gifthorse in mouth. Anyway, it's been more than a year and it still had the MDM profile on it, the company never contacted her so I presumed that they just removed the MDM profile on their side (I understand it costs $ per user license). I (stupidly) wiped it because it was full of corp crap that was now dead anyway since they killed her accounts, wanting to forget a bad memory of a jerk boss. Well, I"m a moron because now it's locked to the MDM profile. Is there any way to get rid of the profile or do we have an expensive paperweight? After restarting it just says "butthead holdings llc will automatically configure your ipad". We're not really apple users so I'm a little clueless here. I've tried creating an apple ID to pull settings from backup (have no other apple devices, so no deal there), and tried the transfer from Android. It showed a code ONE time, but since then, I just get a spinner. (Edit, got the transfer to work, still went to MDM lock). Any assistance is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]  |
| Is My iPhone's Battery Connector Damaged? Posted: 14 May 2019 01:50 PM PDT Hi, I have (now had) a working iPhone 5 until yesterday, around 3:10 or 3:18. I was using outside, when it slipped out of my hand and on to the sidewalk-walkway (the normal kind of sidewalk material). I didn't think much of it, as I had a Speck clear durable case that had lasted me over 2 years of drops and falls. But when I picked it up, I noticed the screen went black. I attempted to power it on, to no avail. I tried hard resetting by holding the power and home buttons. No dice. When I got into the car, I tried plugging it into the car charger (the cable bundled with the iPhone plugged into a car socket to USB adapter). The Apple logo showed up, and then turned off. It kept doing the same thing, over and over. I tried plugging it into the USB port on the MacBook Pro, still nothing. After a day of dealing with this, and leaving the thing plugged in overnight to see if something would magically be fixed, I tried going into recovery mode. I held the home button and then plugged the phone into power. The "Connect to iTunes" screen showed up, and I got excited. I was about to connect to iTunes when the screen immediately turned off after I unplugged the phone. From this, and what my friend told me, I deduced something with the connection to the battery may be wrong. Could the connector have been damaged? Disconnected? Most online tutorials I've found apply to machines that can install OS X over the internet, but this one is too old for that. What's my best course of action?
