Forgot security questions, can’t change account info, any options? Posted: 08 May 2019 07:21 AM PDT Hey guys, first some backstory: my girlfriend got the first iPad on release and created an Apple ID for it back then. The account has only ever been used on this iPad and both haven't been touched for the last 4 years, so she forgot all answers to the security questions she set in 2010, which is why we can't reset them (also not via Apple Support). There are many paid apps and media (mostly movies and music) stored on this account and also 30€ of Store credit left (tried to get that back via Apple Support, no hope) and since she just bought a new iPad, she'd love to use this account again. We do know the password and can login to the store via iTunes (on Windows, the iPad hasn't arrived yet). Is there anything we can do? Since we can't login to appleid.apple.com because of the security questions, we also can't activate 2FA to replace the questions. Are there any downsides of just using this account for the store only and a new account for iCloud and all the other stuff? What other options do we have? (that the Apple Support maybe wouldn't tell us, because Apple doesn't want us to?) [link] [comments] |
Transfer photos from an old phone that won’t turn on? Posted: 07 May 2019 11:01 PM PDT Have an old iPhone 5 that won't turn on (from what I think is battery damage from charging overnight often) I switched to a newer phone but couldn't get photos from the old phone to transfer into the new one. Is there anything that I can do to get those photos? [link] [comments] |
Please help: iMac not recognising SSD (27" late 2009). Posted: 08 May 2019 07:21 AM PDT I've spent hours and I'm not able to get it to work. I'm trying to install an SSD into an iMac (27" late 2009). The original HDD was faulty. I bought a 500GB Samsung V-NAND SSD 860 EVO SATA 6Gb/s. The iMac refuses to identify it. I'm able to see the drive when connecting it via a USB SATA connector to a MacBook Air 11" (early 2014). I migrated my Macbook Air image to the drive whilst installing MacOS Mojave. The iMac responds the same if there's no HDD or SSD connected. It's able to detect my bootable MacOS Mojave USB but then produces the "prohibited" logo. Recovery mode isn't working. I get the prohibited logo. Same as internet recovery. Please help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2019 07:12 AM PDT Tried all these steps pretty much. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204267 It's got MacOs High Sierra I believe. Currently nothing. I was just about to do a clean install of Mojave and I did a restart of my PC, then turned it on again and shut it down. When I tried to boot it up, nothing. Did have the USB in it, but took it out and I've got nothing. Any suggestions? I'm currently in Prague so I guess I'll bring it to a store tomorrow. Any suggestions on where to go would he great. Numbers Help: Turning cells the colour of the hex codes they contain? Posted: 08 May 2019 10:52 AM PDT hello! i recently did a survey and got nearly 500 responses. it involved a colour-picker in browser. 17 questions - per participant - each resulted in a hex code answer. each of the 17 columns look like this when exported to a CSV, which i'm working with in apple's numbers. at the moment, i'm manually changing each cell into the hex code colour they contain. but it's taking me AGES what with there being 490+ rows and 17 columns :( this is how some of the manually edited ones look, but they took me a stupid amount of time: https://i.redd.it/7qogoiedz0x21.png is there any way at all - maybe with apple scripts? - that i can select all the cells and change their colours to the indicated hex code inside each? really appreciate the help, and i hope this is the right subreddit to be posting in! if not - please feel free to point me elsewhere. DHCP conflicts with Apple AirPort plugged into Google WiFi Posted: 08 May 2019 06:52 AM PDT Hi all, TL;DR: how do I get an Apple AirPort adapter plugged into a Google WiFi mesh network via Ethernet and not have DHCP conflicts? Longer version: I would like to get an Apple AirPort Express router (model #A1392) connected to my Google WiFi (which is set up as a mesh network). I set up my Google WiFi network a few days ago, having only just bought them. On initial set up, the Google WiFi app updated them, so I presume they're running the latest version of their firmware. The reason why I want to do this is that the AirPort Express lets you plug a speaker into it via a 3.5mm headphone port. Having the AirPort on the Google WiFi network should turn the speaker into an AirPlay 2 speaker (so I can wirelessly play music from my phone). For the record, the Google WiFi network was working perfectly before I started playing with the AirPort. So my plan was to plug the AirPort into a Google WiFi router via an Ethernet cable. I first set up the AirPort using the option (in AirPort Utility on my Mac) "connect to an existing network". I then entered the SSID and password for my Google WiFi network. I immediately lost internet access. I then tried to set it up to create a new network of its own. That didn't work. I went through literally every possible combination of settings but couldn't figure it out. I then fired up the Google WiFi app on my phone. The app showed that it wasn't connected to the network (even though the phone was definitely showing as being connected). I switched to 4G instead and re-opened the Google WiFi app. It then told me "something is wrong", tapping that lead to a Google help page that suggested that there was another device on the network acting as a DHCP server, and that I needed to either disable the device or - at least - disable the DHCP server within it. So it seemed that the problem was that the AirPort has its own DHCP server, and that cannot be disabled. I only just learned that an hour ago while troubleshooting. This is a pretty well-documented issue on the Internet. Sadly, I didn't know that before I bought the AirPort... The various guides I have found suggest putting the AirPort into bridge mode, and limiting the client IP address range (on the AirPort) to two IP addresses (e.g. 192.168.1.99 to 192.168.1.100), and then reserving those two IP addresses two faked MAC addresses. The idea being that this would force actual devices to try to get an IP address from the Google WiFi instead. I tried this, but still none of my devices had internet access, despite being connected to the Google WiFi network.
Ok, just re-checked and I was able to restart the Google WiFi adapters. Did that. Internet is now back online. At least there's that... New problem: Either way, I still don't have the AirPort connected to the network. I'm in over my head. I've tried everything I can think of. Little help, please? Thanks in advance. What is wrong with my iPhone microphone? Posted: 08 May 2019 09:40 AM PDT My microphone isn't working at all, everytime I try to make a call the microphone is greyed out and I have to use my headphones to speak. External Harddrive doesn't show up in Migrationassist Posted: 08 May 2019 07:52 AM PDT Hi you all, sorry for any mistakes english is not my first language! My gfs Macbook Pro failed to update High Sierra and wouldn't boot anymore, showing that the installation had failed. Of course she doesn't have any backups and all her import schoolwork and photos are on it :/ I cloned the System Drive (No Time Maschine Backup) and installed a fresh copy of Mac OS High Sierra on the internal drive, so far so good. If I try now to use the migration assistant to pull her old data its searching for a source without showing the external harddrive. I've let it run for half an hour before starting the mac. The external harddrive does show up in the finder tho. The old system was running Mac OS Sierra, i dont know the exact version and the new one is High Sierra 10.13.6. The old System was running the standard Mac OS Extended, the new one is using APFS. Only other thing worth noting: I tried to update the old system some months prior and it said "This disk isnt using the GUID Partition Scheme which also was strange since the system was running fine for months w/o issues at that point. The internal drive is an SSD which i've installed myself a 3 years ago, again, w/o problems. Should i just let the assistant search longer since its an late 2011 macbook pro with slow usb 2.0? The image is around 80gb after being compressed so maybe it just needs more time? Any ideas very much appriciated, thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |

How much does a display fix cost? Posted: 08 May 2019 07:43 AM PDT A friend of mine damaged the display of his mac as you can see on the photo. The display light works but it's only black. Did anyone have a similar situation and could tell me how much the fix cost? Could you tell me how much a display replacement costs or if it's only a cable fix how much could that cost? It works on an external display and the computer itself works. Thank you so much in advance and I klnow: Asking apple themselves would be the best solution, but I want to get a glimpse here =) Edit: Stats -Macbook Pro 13'' 2017 without touch bar -newest macOS version [link] [comments] |
Refund of iTunes Credit (Before Account Deletion) Posted: 08 May 2019 06:36 AM PDT I just bought a new iPhone and signed into my Apple ID account for the first time in about 5 years. Turns out the account is a mess so I would like to delete it and start again from scratch. During the account deletion process, it mentions that I have £10 of iTunes credit remaining and gives me two different options: 1. Spend the credit before deleting the account. 2. Contact the iTunes store and request a refund. I have just sent an email to iTunes in regards to proceeding with the latter option. Has anyone done this before and knows what happens next? Did my Mac get hacked? Cryptic user account pops up that I've never seen before. Posted: 08 May 2019 02:43 AM PDT So last night I had this problem that when I booted up my Mac, the screen stayed super super dark and just by looking really closely I could see a window that asked me to re-enter my password, but for an user account that I've never heard about and had a very cryptic name. It asked me to enter my password in order to unlock that disk with the cryptic name. I did a couple of restarts, booted it in recovery mode and wanted to run First Aid on the startup disk. It then prompted me to enter a password again for this very cryptic account. What might be the reason for this, has anyone seen this before? Here's a photo of the account: https://imgur.com/pOPT8qw [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2019 02:33 AM PDT So I'm trying to reset an Apple TV Gen 2, but whenever I do so it simply doesn't post to the TV despite still being powered on, and I have to disconnect the power in order to get it to work again - at which point it clearly isn't reset. Is the reset process just ludicrously slow, or is there an issue here? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 May 2019 05:24 AM PDT Just wondered what I might be doing that's causing this. Not a huge deal but kind of annoying because I see the 2 calls and think, oh no, they called twice! But really, they hadn't. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 May 2019 02:15 AM PDT I just replaced my iphone under warranty today and when i went to listen to some old voice memos, none of them would play. I then checked to see if they were backed up in icloud, and I was surprised to see that there was not even an option for me to toggle saving Voice Memos in icloud on/off. I synced voice memos to my computer which recovered some, but hundreds are still sitting on my phone that will not play. I really need to access these audio files, any suggestions where I go from here? [link] [comments] |
Trying to install rEFInd so I can use Kali Linux. Have no idea if I'm doing this correctly. Posted: 07 May 2019 10:20 PM PDT Hi. I enrolled in an online course that requires I have Kali Linux installed. However, since I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro the instructions haven't really helped much. I followed the steps but I get a warning in Terminal that SIP is preventing me from upgrading an existing install. After running the installation script I see a mounted directory (EFI) with some rEFInd files inside, but if I reboot and hold down the control key (as per these instructions) there is no other startup disk aside from my Macintosh HD, and when booted into that the previously mounted EFI directory is gone. To be honest, this is all pretty new to me. Although I've been a Mac user for over 25 years I've rarely messed much with things like this: terminal commands, shell scripts, etc. So, based on advice from several sources I've copied kali-linux-2019.1a-amd64.iso and refind-flashdrive-0.11.4.zip onto a Flash drive... but I have no idea what to do next. Sorry for the long post but the course I'm taking could help me a lot with my career. Thanks in advance for any help. [link] [comments] |
