USB keeps on unplugging itself randomly

    Posted: 12 May 2019 05:18 PM PDT

So, I ran into this weird problem, where my USB keeps on ejecting itself for no reason before putting itself back in. This is worrying me, because I have lost data before due to an improperly ejected USB, and I am not sure how to deal with this problem.

I use a Letscom USB port for my Macbook Pro, by the way. This also happens when I use a Wacom tablet as well.

Bought a used MacBook that has Logic Pro X on it. If I keep it disconnected from internet, can I use it indefinitely?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 06:18 AM PDT

Title essentially. Admin account with LPX. I made my own Admin account and can still use the program. I planned on buying it, but hey, if it's accessible, why not?

How can I do a true "full reset" of my MacBook?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 07:58 PM PDT

Do I just format the thing and then use recovery to download the newest MacOS? Should I reset PRAM, NVRAM and SMC and all those things? What about the recovery partition itself? Before when I've attempted to "reset" my MacBook I've noticed certain settings and quirks etc. will persist, I'm not sure if MacOS tends to store anything outside of where a Windows PC usually would (historically I've been able to "clean" one of those entirely just by formatting the harddisk and starting again with install media)

Left ear keeps breaking on apple earphones

    Posted: 12 May 2019 07:55 PM PDT

I've had several pairs of these things and the exact same thing happens. After 2-3 months the left ear completely stops working. The right ear is perfectly fine. I'd get AirPods or other wireless headphones but I honestly can't afford them but I've had to return/replace so many pairs it would probably be cheaper to get a pair of wireless headphones that don't break every couple months. Am I the only one who has this specific problem or is it fairly common.

Troubling behavior— Suddenly unresponsive 2017 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 12 May 2019 07:30 PM PDT

    Hello all,

This is about my 2017 MacBook Pro without Touch Bar (ModelA1708 EMC3164, running Mojave 10.14.4). The screen remains black no matter what and the device won't respond. At first I thought it was a display issue, then made sure it wasn't battery-related, and finally looked up solutions for booting problems, but to no avail. I have already tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM.

I did notice some things that I think are significant.

    1. There's no tone/beep when connecting the USB-C charging cable.
    2. I plugged in a multiport USB-C adapter (which has an indicator light). The thing lights up for something like 11 seconds, then goes dark for around 6 seconds. Then turns on again for another 11 seconds and the cycle goes on ad infinitum.
    3. The Trackpad presents an exact analog: I am able to click it (ie. physically depress it) for those same 11 seconds, then nothing during the next 6.
    4. The above two apply when the charging cable is not connected. If it is connected (or if I insert it during the light show), the 6 second "dead" phase happens once, and then the indicator light/trackpad remain activated (ie. lit/clickable).[In fact they stay that way even if I then unplug the charger, and I can confirm this is the case for at least the next 10 minutes.]
    5. Everything stops when I hold the power button for a few seconds, probably as expected. The aforementioned behavior restarts on pressing the power button again or closing and reopening the lid.
    6. I tried to make the bootloader appear (hold ⌥) or boot into recovery (⌘+R) but the screen remains resolutely off.

I am a layman when it comes to these things and have no clue what to make of all this. There was no spillage or shock or any kind of physical trauma. The machine is 11 months old and I've been very satisfied with it until today. Am I right to think that this is a hardware issue? A serious one?

Is there any kind of homemade fix? If not, please tell me there's a way to salvage my local files.

    Thanks.

How to disable clamshell / closed display mode?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 06:51 PM PDT

I recently got a macbook pro for work. It runs Mojave. I always have an external display and mouse plugged in, I'm also always charging it. I HATE this "feature" of the macbook not going to sleep when I close the lid. I close the damn lid, you are supposed to go to sleep and lock access! Not throw all my things to the external display and mess up my window organisation...

I already had a huge dislike of apple's products, now I'm being forced to use one for work, I just want it to at least behave like a normal computer instead of being all Designer™ with a bunch of unnecessary "features" that I need to download external programs to disable, just so I can actually use it.

Just to be clear: I don't want to manually request the computer to sleep every time I close the lid, I just want an automatic thing that will sleep and lock the screen when I close the damn lid.

My Mac can't seem to find my iPhone via bluetooth

    Posted: 12 May 2019 05:41 PM PDT

My understanding is that both "Apple Pay on Mac" and Continuity / Handoff use bluetooth for these features. And neither of these features work for me.

I have an iPhone XR and an early 2016 12" MacBook and these features both used to work, but do not anymore. For a month or two.

Handoff / Continuity just show no signs of working. Neither from iPhone to Mac or vice versa. I used to get prompts on my dock on my Mac, but not anymore.

For Apple Pay, it'll try to find my iPhone, but then show me this error message. If I google that error, there is less than 1 page of results and the only advice I found is "make sure the OS is up to date."

I did a bit of digging into bluetooth on my Mac, in System Information --> Bluetooth and my iPhone is listed in there. And the Bluetooth address matches what is shown in my iPhone's "About" page. Bluetooth also works fine for both devices with other peripherals (AirPods, mice, in-car bluetooth, etc).

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Transparent background photos showing white background working on iPhone XR

    Posted: 12 May 2019 11:31 AM PDT

My wife just upgraded to an iPhone XR from an iPhone 8. She has a photo saved of her logo with a transparent background that she uses in an app to overlay on a photo of the products she sells. On her new phone, the photo has a white background, even though the exact same photo (accessed from the same iCloud photo album) still has a transparent background on her iPhone 8.

Anybody have any explanations of why this could be happening or suggestions on how to fix it?

Both are on the most recent version of iOS.

Just dropped iPhone XS (no case) and have cracks and tiny bits of glass back near camera missing, I got apple care+ a few days ago - is the two accidental damages coverage true?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 05:22 PM PDT

    Hey all,

Situation described in title just happened. I have Apple Care +, and have heard they cover accidental damage up to two times, for about $99.00 or something? Is this true?

Macbook Pro(Late 2013) Trackpad does not function?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 04:37 PM PDT

I just bought this used MacBook Pro for pretty cheap due to the trackpad not working. A mouse connected works fine but the trackpad does not do a single thing. I was wondering if anyone could shed some lights on other steps I might try. Below are steps that I have already done:

    1. Checked to make sure all updates are completed. The Mac is updated with all firmware and the latest Mac OS (10.14.4)

    2. I have checked the settings to make sure it is enabled and I have also checked the accessibility settings to make sure that having another mouse connected doesn't disable it. (I have tried it without the mouse after each step just in case as well)

    3. I reset the SMC following the non removable battery steps to reset the SMC

    4. I have tried reseting the PRAM

    5. I went to try and erase the property list items that include the keywords multi touch or trackpad etc and oddly enough none of those files existed

    6. I tried downloading the old retina trackpad 1.0 fix apple had available on their website but it seems that was for a lot older OS then this and was not supported.

After doing some searching I am not finding any other steps to try and was wondering if anyone else might know what could fix it. Also wondering if those Property List items not being there could be a problem as well and how to go about getting those back if so? Any help will be appreciated. I mainly plan to use a mouse for my this but it would be nice to have the trackpad functionality if possible.

Question, How do I move iphotos from an external hard drive to iphoto?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 04:05 PM PDT

This is a pretty straightforward question, but I've only found things on how to export photos from iphoto to an external hard drive.

Basically the situation is this: I have an old macbook that holds years worth of photos, but I purchased a new macbook and am wanting to transfer the photos from that old computer to the new one. I did a backup on the old computer with an external hard drive. That said, I can't figure out how to transfer my iphotos that are on my external hard drive backup, into my new computer's iphoto. All help would be greatly appreciated!

    Location Services

So last night I lost my wallet and I was hoping to use my iPhones GPS data to retrace my exact steps and hopefully find it.

The health app tracked my walk, but I'm unable to view a map. Using settings—>privacy—>location services—>system services does not yield any results. Please help me!

Has anyone else had this issue? I realllly don't want to restore my phone, but it's driving me nuts and deleting the app and reinstalling didn't work.

Moving countries soon, will my apple services be affected?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 04:45 AM PDT

I've heard a few bad experiences of people moving countries (for me it'll be Canada to UK) and then losing things like their Apple Music library. I'll be in the UK for at least 10 months and I'll need to access UK services like the UK App Store but does this mean that I'll lose my library twice (once on the move there and then once on the move back)? Any help or information would be very appreciated.

    iPod help

    Posted: 12 May 2019 01:21 PM PDT

I have a newer iPod with the latest edition of iTunes. My issue is when I drag an album over and save it to my iPod, it saves as individual songs instead of in an album, so I have to delete it the first time, then the second time I put it on my iPod it syncs on the iPod as an album. I'm having to do this with every album I add and it takes forever. Anyone else experiencing this?

Does it make sense to buy a new iMac now with ARM on the horizon?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 01:21 PM PDT

I'm currently using a mid-2010 iMac that's getting frustratingly slow to use. My next iMac is likely going to have a last a great many years into the future. Does it make sense to buy an Intel powered iMac now when ARM powered iMacs could seemingly arrive at any moment?

    iPad Mini 4 Battery Percentage

    Posted: 12 May 2019 12:45 PM PDT

Since about a week ago, whenever I turn my iPad on, the battery percentage does not appear to be correct for the first few minutes of use, showing as 1%. This did happen with my old iPod Touch, and progressively got worse to the point where it could not tell the correct battery percentage at all. Is this a software issue or is there a problem with my device?

    Broken 2011 iMac

    Posted: 12 May 2019 12:38 PM PDT

Hello! So I have been working on fixing macs and PCs a lot. I am usually able to fix them. Today a friend brought me an iMac 2011 to fix. The problem is that it will power on, does the boot chime thing, but does not display anything, and turns off again after a minute or so. I tried unplugging the display and plugging it in again Incase it was a loose connector but it didn't work. My next guess is the gpu is bad but I can't test that as I don't have another gpu for it. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

How to access files in recovery mode?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 12:23 PM PDT

This is a follow up to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/bf46v1/i_downloaded_and_started_to_install_mojave_on_my/

I installed Mojave but my MacBook doesn't support it and now I'm in a limbo. I've got some music and pictures I'd like to save before I reinstall High Sierra.

I'm in recovery mode and able to Open Disc Image on Mac.

I can see all my files are there, but is there a way to access them and copy them to a USB stick?
