Slow choppy laggy Youtube + Safari 12.1 [Macbook Air Mid 2012] Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:02 AM PDT The youtube experience on Safari is barely usable, not problem with chrome. I don't have any Adblock installed aside for AdGuard that is a standalone app. My machine is quite aging but still with 8 GB of ram that should be more than enough to manage youtube. Everything from opening videos, commmenting, play/pause is incredibily luggish! no problems on other website pages (reddit is also a little bit choppy but definitely usable!). Any advice to improve the experience? (it was already bad prior to Mojave) [link] [comments]

The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 10.2.1 available from the Mac App Store. For information on the compatibility requirements for Xcode 10.2.1, see Xcode 10.2.1 Release Notes. Should I update to Mojave 10.14.4 on MBP 2018? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:44 AM PDT Title (sort of) says it all, I recently got the 2018 MBP, and heard from a friend "do not update to 10.14.4 yet". I don't know why he said that, and he didn't say anything on why I shouldn't? Is there any bugs occurring or any issues with Mojave 10.14.4? I'm currently and still with 10.14.3 since I received my new MBP. Thanks, and I apologise for asking a dumb question, I'm a noob and not much of a tech savvy. [link] [comments]
Encrypted Startup Disk + FileVault Issue Posted: 29 Apr 2019 04:53 PM PDT When setting up my Mac, I cloned my previous Mac's Start Up Disk to the new machine using SuperDuper!, as I've done many times before. However, I wasn't thinking properly when I was doing so and formatted the Startup Disk in the new machine as APFS Encrypted, forgetting that FileVault would take care of encryption for me. I have FileValut enabled too, but the issue I have is that when I restart the machine, I am first prompted to enter my encryption key for the drive, before logging in. It all works fine, but is annoying. There's no noticeable slow-down, but I suspect there may be some performance hit to this too as I'm assuming there is some level of double-encryption going on. Read/write speeds are still very fast though. What would be the easiest way of backing out of the APFS encryption of the drive? [link] [comments]
Possible to Install macOS Mojave on a REMOTE Unsupported Mac mini 2011? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:29 PM PDT As per title I have an unsupported Mac mini that I would like to upgrade to macOS Mojave. The only problem is I can only access it remotely as it is in another state in a server farm. Is there anyway I could upgrade it to macOS Mojave without physical access? I aware of the ability to do it with a USB but as I explained I have no physical access to the machine. Thanks [link] [comments]
If you are coming to macOS from Windows, install Spectacle. Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:15 AM PDT As someone who recently made the switch from Windows to macOS this little free program has made me feel right at home. Over the years I got used to the "snapping" feature that was introduced in Windows and was so disappointed when I found out the only way to do this in macOS was to hold the "maximize button" and select a second program which creates a second desktop with the programs stacked beside each other. When you want to replace one of the windows with a different window, you'd have to exit both windows from full screen and resnap them. It was not very intuitive and slowed down my workflow dramatically. This little program (Spectacle) allows me to snap windows side by side with the press of a hotkey (Option + Command + < for left and Option + Command + > for right) and has brought my productivity in line to where it was in Windows. The only downside is you can't click and drag where the windows meet to resize them, but that's just a minor gripe. The core functionality is there, which solves 90% of my issues with macOS window management. Hopefully this helps out some other macOS noobs out there who recently made the switch who was looking for a way to bring this amazing, yet simple feature to macOS for the amazing price of... free! Mail app opening but not showing any windows Posted: 29 Apr 2019 12:18 PM PDT Hello. The issue is as described by the title. The app is open (the dot appears under it) but no windows are available. I have mojave 10.14.2. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:31 PM PDT Question, has anyone with a MBP running Mojave had iTunes create a little icon on the right of your touchbar in the control strip that allows you to control music or podcast playback, even when not in the app? I used to have this, was super useful, then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and it's not shown up again. It was a fifth button in the control strip rather than the usual four and I haven't seen another app do that ever. [link] [comments]
Help! My Macbook is eating diskspace till it doesn't work anymore Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:20 AM PDT I have a urgent problem. My Macbook Pro is eating diskspace all by itself till it's unresponsive. Finder says I have 100 GB of free space, but mac os and clean my mac is only showing 300 mb. If I use the Disk Utility, I can see my SSD with the 100 GB of free space, but it's nested in another drive called "Container Disk1" and this one has only 300mb of free space (which is again nested in APPLE SSD SM1024F Media). How to I fix this problem? Kernel_task also wrote 13GB to the HD since I opened it. :( If I do the First Aid on the container disk1 drive the following error shows up "warning: Overallocation Detected on Main device" how do I fix this? Force MacOS to use a different audio Codec Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:00 AM PDT

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:38 AM PDT Hey so I understand how to change the default program associated to a file, this question isn't about that. I want to know how to may my favorite code editor (Sublime) appear in the list of 7 programs that MacOS shows when you click "Open With". Currently on mine it lists Google Earth Pro as the default (which I don't want to change) then it lists a few other programs including Textedit, R, Brackets, Xcode. I want Sublime to appear in that list, perhaps instead of Xcode (which I never use), or just as another option. The current flow requires me to select "other" and then find it each time in the list of applications which is a lot of extra work. I had hoped it would just show up in this list after I had done this workflow 10 or more times but it does not. [link] [comments]
Time Machine - How Manage backup of disk images and external drives? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:13 AM PDT I have some questions about managing backup of disk images and external drives. First, I will mention I am familiar with the basic process of how to exclude items from backup. 1) I excluded a disk image file from backup using the exclusion list. I would like its mounted view to be backed up, but not the image file itself. While time machine will backup the other partitions of my internal drive, it ignores the mounted disk image. How can I cause it to back up the disk image as a mounted volume? I do NOT want to back up the disk image file itself as it is large. 2) While I want most external drives to remain excluded from the backup, there is one external drive I would like to be included into the Time Machine backup. How can I accomplish this? 3) How can I ensure that Time machine will not remove the disk image contents or external drive contents from the backup if those are not mounted at the time the Time Machine updates? Thanks [link] [comments]
Playing Youtube from the Command Line Using MPV? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 02:41 AM PDT I am trying to set it up on my system. I wanted to ask those living the dream (have set up MPV on their Macbook/Mac) , "How good is it?" Is the whole experience worth it? [link] [comments] |
