Anyone else think a double tap on the Picture-in-Picture window should rewind/fast forward instead of shrinking the window?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:41 AM PDT

When I'm watching a video (especially lectures) I often want to rewind 10 seconds or so if I miss something. It's extremely slow to have to open the app the video is in, then rewind, then go back to PiP mode, whereas a double tap on the left/right half could rewind/fast forward 10 seconds. The current double tap just shrinks the window, which I never actually use, and I think this could be a much better use for this feature. Do you guys agree? (If you do you should submit feedback!)

    iPad Air vs iPad

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:13 PM PDT

Can the iPad Air perform 3 tasks at the same time or it like the 2018 iPad where it freezes the two apps in the back when you try to get 3 apps on screen?

Anyone own the Logitech Base for iPads? What do you think about it? Thinking of getting one, as its one of the few accessories that utilize the smart connector.

I‘m smart enough to be a college student but can‘t use the search function. What iPad should I buy and what app should I use to take notes?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 02:34 PM PDT

Edit 3: THIS POST IS SARCASM! HOW CAN YOU NOT GET IT AND WASTE YOUR TIME WITH SERIOUS REPONSES? DO ANY OF YOU READ MORE THAN THE HEADLINE - EVEN THOUGH THAT'S SARCASTIC TOO?

Hi, I'm going to study medieval latin, chemistry, computer science and psychology at Hogwarts but I'm too dumb to use the search function. Can you please do the research for me and tell me what iPad to buy? Also, what app should I use to take notes? This is sooo hard! Thaaanks!

Edit: seems like people in this sub really aren't that smart. r/Woooosh to most commenters I guess?!

Edit 2: replaced Harvard with Hogwarts in hope that everbody gets it now.

    iPad Pro 2018 Stuttering?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 01:52 PM PDT

Bought iPad Pro 11", iPad Mini 5 and iPad Pro 10.5 [2017 - 2nd hand]. I settled with iPad Pro 10.5 [2017] and think that this is overall the best iPad out there

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 04:43 AM PDT

Hi guys, this post is just my personal opinion and it's definitely very subjective. If you don't agree with what I think then of course it's all good :)

Basically for the last 1 week, I know that I want an iPad but I just have no idea which one I will like the most/the one that I consider to be the most useful.

    iPad Pro 11" [2018]

So to start things off, I bought an iPad Pro 11" directly from Apple Store and the Apple Pencil [2nd Gen]. Immediately after setting it up and used it for a couple hours, here's what I noticed:

    • There's no split keyboard on iPad Pro 11".

Huh?? Wait what?? Yes I repeat, there's no split keyboard on iPad Pro 11" (2018)

Umm...., I can't say how stupid and asinine this is...., how does anyone supposed to type on the iPad in landscape mode when they're standing? I mean you can of course, but it's just hellishly difficult now without the split keyboard feature. I tried to look for third party apps that offer a split keyboard solution to amend this issue but apparently there's none.

This is an absolute deal breaker and what's even more stupid is that this feature is available on the new iPad Air 3 and iPad Mini 5.

Just... words can't express how stupid this is.

    • No home button and no touch ID.

I honestly didn't think that it would be an issue for me before I bought the iPad Pro 11" but turns out I found 2 problems of the face ID only implementation on iPad Pro 11":

[1] You need the iPad front face camera to face you directly in order for the face ID to authenticate you. This means that if you unconsciously tilt the iPad a little bit, the iPad won't unlock and you need to readjust the iPad to directly face you in order for face ID to work.

[2] Most of the time I hold my iPad in landscape mode and I accidentally covered the front facing camera a few times wihout noticing it in the few hours I played around with iPad Pro 11". Again, because of this, face ID had trouble authenticating me and I had to move my left hand a bit in order to unlock my iPad.

So yeah, all in all, not a fan of face ID only solution.

At the end of the day, I returned the iPad Pro 11" to the Apple Store where I bought it from and asked for a refund. The only really good thing about this iPad Pro 11" from what I saw is the performance and the Apple Pencil 2 (it's really good).

    iPad Mini 5 [2018]

Then, I bought the iPad Mini 5 because I thought it's a lot more portable and it has touch ID, etc. so I will like it right? Again, these are the things that I noticed right away:

    • Performance is lacking

By "lacking" I do mean the UI lags quite a bit when doing some stuff like rotating from portrait to landscape on some apps. Forget about promotion that can display animation up to 120FPS, this thing can't even hit 60 FPS and stutters a lot in doing general stuff.

The most jarring example is when I tried opening google maps on the iPad Mini 5. the animation when trying to navigate the map/zooming in/zooming out is choppy.

    • Screen is too small (for me)

7.9" screen is not that much bigger compared to high end phones these days and it certainly doesn't feel that much bigger when you put it side by side with my Pixel 3 XL.

Every time I try to read an online article it feels like I need to zoom in all the time as texts appear way too small otherwise.

Furthermore, the small screen is not exactly ideal for me as I'm planning to use the iPad a lot to take handwritten notes (with Apple Pencil).

The tablet is very light indeed but the small screen size and the lacklustre performance (in my opinion) killed it for me.

So , again, after playing around with it, I returned it to the Apple Store and requested a refund.

    iPad Pro 10.5 [2017]

So um..., I tried looking into iPad Air 3 but it's not exactly cheap here where I live and I noticed that some second hand iPad Pro 10.5 [2017] with 256GB WiFi/LTE option w/Apple Pencil/Smart Keyboard bundle is cheaper than a standalone iPad Air 3 WiFi/LTE 64GB (again, maybe this is not the case where you live).

Considering that a second hand iPad Pro 10.5 has quad speakers, promotion display and cheaper than the iPad Air 3 even when bundled with the Apple Pencil/Apple Smart keyboard + has a much bigger storage, I took the plunge and bought it instead of the iPad Air 3.

So..., whatt do I think about this one?

Um... it's GREAT haha, it's like... really good. Probably the best tablet I've ever had in my life (I've used a Nexus 7 1st gen, Nexus 7 2nd gen, iPad Mini 4 before).

    • The 10.5" screen has plenty of space for you to take notes with Apple Pencil comfortably and it's also nice to read articles/eBooks.

    • Performance is great and the Promotion display is beautiful, the touchID system is amazing, I didn't have any issue with it and it recognized my thumb every time. I can tilt the iPad however I want when unlocking it without the front camera having to face me directly like the ipad Pro 11.

    • This iPad is not the lightest tablet out there but it's also not too heavy so I can read comfortably with one hand.

    • Unlike the iPad Pro 11" that doesn't have split keyboard feature (again, it's sooo stupid). , this iPad has that feature which makes it very easy to type with 2 hands when using the tablet in landscape mode

All of this already bundled with:

    • an Apple Pencil (with a magnetic cap and a rubber strap so you won't lose the cap easily) + Apple pencil charger
    • The Apple smart keyboard for iPad Pro 10.5
    • a smart cover (not Apple brand, but it's still nice)
    • 256GB storage WiFi/LTE model

while still being cheaper than an iPad Air 3 64GB WiFi/LTE?

    Hey...., I'm a happy man :)

    TL;DR;

Tried out both iPad Pro 11" (2018) and iPad Mini 5 (2018) and found out that both of them have some deal breaker compromises.

Turns out the iPad Pro 10.5" (2017) is the one I've always wanted and I personally think that it's the best iPad Apple currently has to offer, better than any other iPad models out there

Unique, very spooky story built for iPad - nice write up.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 07:42 AM PDT

If u don’t need pressure sensitive for “writing”, Crayon and Pencil 2 feel 99% the same.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 11:31 PM PDT

So u either get iPad pro with Pencil 2 or iPad Air 3/Mini 5 with Crayon.

Except the just released Air 3 and Mini 5, Crayon only supports 6th gen iPad that doesn't come with laminate screen for better writing experience.

So there are not many ppl tried Crayon on Air 3 or Mini 5 as Apple stores doesn't provide demo unless u ask for a try.

And naturally ppl just assume Pencil 1 is better.

But its not, if you doesn't need pressure sensitive for painting.

The packing of Crayon states clear it use Apple Pencil technology and after paring with supported iPad, it shows as apple pencil.

Crayon basically trades pressure sensitive for all issues of Pencil 1

    Wireless pairing in 1-2 sec

    Can charge with cable

    Won't roll on surface

Less slippy tip feel like Pencil 2

Shorter than pencil 1 and don't have the weight shifting to tail issue

    Cheaper

See it for yourself to get a feel and try it at Apple Store. Its so shocking how similar it feels comparing to Pencil 2 on laminated screen in terms of writing

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmVPQvNqAV8&feature=share

Pencil 1 for drawing is not covered by this post and I still believe it just behind Pencil 2. Still the 2nd best.

You should at least tried Pencil 2 AND Crayon on Air 3 or Mini 5 before judging, thanks.

    My beauty

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 04:33 PM PDT

I just shot an unboxing of the iPad Mini 5, working on a full review - what do you want to know?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 05:15 PM PDT

Is the 2018 9.7 inch iPad still worth getting?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 04:32 PM PDT

I want to get the 128gb model which is on sale for $329. However the new IPad Air just came to which has a lot better specs but is $500. Is the a10 chip in the 2018 iPad still fast? I really would prefer getting the 2018 but I don't want to get it if it's gonna slow down soon

What do you want iOS 13 to bring to the iPad?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 04:41 PM PDT

I want iOS 13 to bring to the iPad, these:

    -Far better file management system

-Mouse or trackpad support (doesn't need to replace touch, but the option is nice)

    -Disk utility-like app

-Basically stuff similar to the Mac

Not asking for it to be like the Mac, but to have productivity and pro-like features like Macs do.

Given the true-tone and laminated display, can the new iPad mini replace Amazon Kindle just for reading?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 04:55 PM PDT

Pretty much what the title says. Is it a good idea to replace Kindle with the new iPad mini for long reading sessions?

Picked up a 2019 ipad mini on 3/26 from best buy. The device shows a warranty expiration date of 3/24/2020. Could it be an open box item?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 07:16 PM PDT

And also the battery was nearly fully charged out of the box - it is a little odd because my other i-devices were never charged at that high percentage out of the box. However, the plastic seal on the packaging box seemed to be intact before I took the ipad out. Maybe it is just an ios glitch? Thoughts?
