PSA: “For You: New Releases” in Apple Music appears to finally be fixed Posted: 07 Apr 2019 05:48 AM PDT I don't know if anyone else had this problem (I'm sure they did) but I noticed this morning that New Releases under the For You tab is now showing a ton more albums from a lot of the artists I already have in my library. Before the fix Apple Music would only show me a subset of releases. I have no idea how they determined what to show or not to show but it appears to finally take the artists you have in your library into account. edit It appears some people aren't seeing any change while others are. I wonder if it's rolling out or if there's some variable that I'm not aware of. Post your success below if you'd be so kind. [link] [comments] |
I ran Unigine Heaven 4 benchmark on my new iMac 2019 i5 9600K/RX580X. Some gaming results too. Posted: 07 Apr 2019 04:53 AM PDT For those interested : Extreme preset, OpenGL, MacOS : 45.9FPS Score 1156 Extreme preset, OpenGL, Windows : 50.5FPS Score 1272 Extreme preset, DirectX11, Windows : 60.8FPS Score 1531 Nothing running in the background and indexing/iCloud downloading are finished on MacOS since I got the iMac five days ago. Gaming-wise it's pretty neat on Bootcamp. I played some games :
In the end pretty great for gaming, 1440p looks good on the 5K panel since it's a 2:1 downscale. Fan noise and heat are no problem. Noise level isn't discernible unless you play with absolutely no sound and it never blows as hard as my One X anyway. No throttling or slow-down after 4 hours of Total War Warhammer 2 so thermal management seems on point. Edit : for total transparency, I got this particular config (i5 9600K, RX580X, 8GB, 512GB SSD, Trackpad) for 1.500€ instead of 2.800€ (great work discount). I know you can get a faster gaming PC desktop for like 1.000€ but for 1.500€ with that 5K screen I don't see much better options. Also gaming isn't my first use it's mainly for photography where the screen really shines and working on my automotive news website. [link] [comments] |
Wired EarPods: Sometimes Newer Isn't Better Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:34 PM PDT I'm not sure if this is an actual problem or if I'm just going crazy. I've always loved the EarPods since they came out in 2012. For me, they block out just the right amount of noise and have a good enough sound to be suitable for almost any kind of casual listening, so I use them constantly. I've resisted Bluetooth audio for many reasons and have remained happy with the wired EarPods (though I'm considering the new AirPods). What struck me about the original EarPods was how long they lasted: Even though I used them constantly and wasn't very careful with them, my first pair lasted me almost a year and a half and my second one lasted nearly as long. Apple was also great about replacing these when they break as long as you can make it to an apple store. That all changed when I got my iPhone 8+ last year--my first phone without a headphone jack. Since March of 2018, I have replaced the lightning earpods four times. I'm very careful with them--in fact, I used to pull the old set out of the phone by its wire and I don't do this with the new ones. My current pair is now starting to break, and Apple is refusing to replace it because my phone is no longer under warranty. Each time I've written into support to ask for a replacement set, I've asked them very nicely if they could just send me the old 3.5mm pair so I could use it with the lightning dongle instead. At least that way, if it breaks, I just have to replace that instead of the headphones. Each time they have refused, saying it's policy to only send the exact same model. Apple could have saved us both three repairs and a lot of grief by pulling a couple of strings and sending me the older, better, and cheaper pair which would probably still be working fine today, and which would allow me to use the same headphones across my phone and my computer (which is also made by apple!) Instead, I've gone through several week-long periods of having no Apple headphones, which has allowed me to research other headphone manufacturers. Does anyone else find this new connector to be a piece of complete garbage compared to the old one? I'm not sure whether the best approach is to just buy the old ones, buy airpods and ditch the wired scene altogether, or give up on Apple headphones and look for something better. I don't find I have the same problems with the lightning dongle that plugs into normal headphones, but even if they break, they're $10 to replace. [link] [comments] |
