iMessage freezing cursor for 5 seconds every time its opened. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:24 PM PST

Ever since I updated to Mojave, iMessage will literally lock up my whole machine for around 5 seconds every single time I open the app. I even went through and deleted all of my messages! Just seeing if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Thanks!

Edit: using MBP 2017 i5 no touchbar 16gb ram 10.14.3

Emails app opens on its own

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 01:44 PM PST

    Hi Everyone,

I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch (2016) running the latest Mojave update. It originally shipped with El Capitan but I always kept it updated. Ever since Sierra High (and now Mojave), the Mail app opens on its own . It's very distracting and often leads to confidentiality concerns when I am sharing the screen. Apple Genius Bar installed did a fresh install of Mac OS but it did not help. I also read that it has something to do with gmail and I turned off all notifications in all my gmail accounts accordingly. Still no help. Can someone tell me if there is anything I can do?

    Thanks

Folders with names such as a7, de, c9, etc appearing in Applications folder

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:33 AM PST

The folder titles are never more than two characters, usually a letter and number together. Folders appear empty. The time of creation appears random but about five appear every day. I delete them and they come back. I'm assuming it's malware of some kind but how do i get rid of it?

Inputing special signs from multiple languages

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:09 AM PST

    I have a text input-related question.

I write primarily in Polish, and thus use the 'Polish-Pro' keyboard setup to input all the diacritics (for ąężźćł etc). However, recently I also need to use many French words in my writing, requiring me to do all the French accents and diacritics as well: éèç etc. I need to do this while also primarily using Polish.

Is there a way to quickly enter these characters without resorting to long-pressing e, a, c, and while keeping my fast access to Polish special letters? I know of the modifying combination option-u, which allows me to add umlauts to the proceeding letters, but it is not particularly helpful in French, since it doesn't produce an ï. Long-pressing is very useful (although, again, no luck with ï), but it slows me down in comparison to, say, a quick option-a to produce the Polish ą.

Accidentally split my hard drive, can't combine them. HELP!!!

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 11:28 PM PST

Hey guys. So I was trying to load up Windows on my machine via bootcamp. I've done it a bunch of times in the past but this time really gave me a bunch of problems. I ended up creating a partition for Windows. I wasn't able to get bootcamp working so I tried to combine the partitions together, but it seems like it split the hard drive into 2 separate internal drives, if that makes sense... Here's a screenshot:

    Spark Vs Apple Mail

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 04:38 PM PST

I have used the native Apple Mail app for years. I just came across Spark. I like it. However there is one thing I like about Apple Mail, that Spark doesn't seem to have. When you flag a message in Apple Mail, you can select between different colors. But Spark seems to just have the one color. Is there anyway to change that in Spark?

    Apple Music quality

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 06:48 PM PST

Is there a way to default Apple Music to the highest quality like there is on iOS?

I cannot find a setting to change the default quality so I was hoping it always defaults to the highest 256kbps. I got good speeds on my home wifi so I was hoping to utilise Apple Music to its highest quality.

Thanks in advance for your help.

macOS app updater shows "release notes" before the installation. Can I somehow reshow those notes?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 12:47 PM PST

    Hey /r/macOS/,

I'm beta testing a few apps on macOS. For some I needed to send the devs my Hardware-UUI to be able to install the beta app from an installer initially send to me.

For all following version updates I get an update prompt, which looks like this (just an example that I found via Google). Is this the native updater?

The beta release notes usually don't get published on the app's websites.

I already contacted one of the devs, the reply is pending, but I somehow can't imagine that there is no way to reshow the release notes window.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Possible to create a Pages plugin?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 12:18 PM PST

    Hi all,

I have an idea for a plug in for the Pages app, and I've been dying to learn Swift programming for a while. I know that there is something called EndNote for adding citations support in Pages (it is a plug-in), and I was just wondering whether it is possible for me to create my own plug in.

Some things to consider are: is Pages written in Swift and/or is it possible to build on top of it with Swift? I don't want to be learning Objective-C stuff. Are there also any legality issues if I package and sell it? Thanks.

MacOS 10.14.3 on MacBook Pro 2012 & Matrox Dualhead2Go ME

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 04:40 AM PST

I recently bought a second hand Matrox dualhead2Go ME to use 2 external monitors on my MacBook Pro 2012. It works but the 2 external displays are functioning as one big screen, I really would like them to be function as 2 seperat screens.

    Is this possible?

    Reset faces in Photos?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2019 01:37 PM PST

I was looking for pictures of one of my boys from the People view when I realized that half the pictures in the album were of my other son. I thought that maybe I could just delete them both their albums from the People view and start over IDing photos of them, but all that seemed to do was erase their folder. All the pictures are still tagged with their names.

I had created a smart album to find all photos with NAME taken before his birthday, and that album didn't change after I deleted the name from People, and if I do a Get Info on a photo, the wrong names are still there. And now they're both gone from People with seemingly no way to get them back.

Is there a better way to reset faces, even if it means resetting my entire library and starting over?

Help Guide Creation Software For MacOS

Help Guide Creation Software For MacOS

As the titles suggests am looking for peoples opinions / experiences with some kind of help / guide writing application.

To expand I work for a company who has 150+ software / web based products which are administered by myself and colleagues.

We have the usual word documents with bullet points, numbered steps etc containing information on administering each product, screenshots etc.

However working with word documents and the like is troublesome to both maintain and use, especially if they are 30-40 pages long!

Im not sure what exactly it is I am looking for hence the post for suggestions.

Ideally a package which is specifically designed for such a task... ie the creation of help guides / instruction manuals as it were.

The end "guides" would need to be searchable and easy to navigate... perhaps via a screen by screen interface which would contain step1 on one screen, then step2 on the next screen etc etc

    Answers on a postcard :-)
