I’ve actually been really impressed with the XR so far Posted: 03 Feb 2019 08:04 PM PST I've been Android for years, and haven't used an iPhone since I got a 6 when they were brand new. I wanted to try something new and decided to come back from Android. I had a Galaxy S9 and liked it as a phone, but my biggest complaint was the battery life. It had awful standby time (if I left it sitting overnight fully charged it would usually be in the high 70s when I woke up) and just pretty awful battery life in general. I'd usually end up with less than 20% battery with 3-4 hours of screen-on time. I went back and forth between the XR and an XS for quite a while. The XS has a much better screen (both resolution and actual screen build material) but the XR was getting reports of really phenomenal battery life. I tried them both out at my local Sprint store but still couldn't decide. I ended up deciding to get an XR for two reasons: it was cheaper (so if I didn't like Apple, it wouldn't cost me as much) and where the XS has varying reports on the battery life, almost all reviews of the XR just praised the battery. Having used it for a few weeks now, I can definitely confirm those reports. I've made it a habit to check the battery life when I'm at about half battery (which frankly really doesn't happen often) and it's used approximately 5 hours of screen on time. That's phenomenal. I'm getting more more SOT with just half of my XR battery than my entire S9 battery. I was also worried about the screen resolution, but I've honestly barely noticed it. I know that that sounds like a fanboy thing to say that brushes it off, but for technically being sub-1080p, I think it looks great. When I compared it side by side to the XS, the XS definitely looked better but on its own I have no complaints about it. I'm not a huge Apple fanboy, I have lots of little nitpicks with IOS and how they do things. But I have to be honest, this level of battery life in a higher level phone is a huge selling point for me and is worth more than most of those complaints. For anyone who is on the fence, I say give it a shot! I think it's a great phone. [link] [comments]

How to record video and listen to music at the same time on iPhone Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:44 AM PST I noticed there's a lot of archived threads (here, here, here, here, here, etc) that were never really solved, beyond jailbreaks or saying to just use snapchat for 15 seconds, so I made an app for it: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1358135284 The app is super simple, so does anyone have suggestions for features or UI improvements? How do I stop the Files app from opening a location by default? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 07:44 AM PST When I open the Files app, it defaults into Google Drive and opens that. I disabled google drive and now it defaults into iCloud. I disabled that, and it still defaults to it, it just doesn't show any folders now. I have to hit <Locations to get back to the Browse screen. How much more battery would an iPhone use if you use a wireless headset vs a wired headset? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:48 AM PST Say you listen to an hour of music. Wireless vs wired, how much difference in battery use would it make? [link] [comments]
Found iPhone, how do I find the owner? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:21 AM PST I found an iPhone on the street in London. It was locked and had 2% battery left so I quickly Googled what to do (am Android user and don't know my way around iOS) and found the Siri suggestion but Siri said it didn't know who the owner was. The battery died right after. What's the best way to find the owner? If I bought a cable and charged it, would the owner still be able to call it or would I be able to message the owner? I know on my phone at least, there is a sim card lock that would prevent this without a pin. I will hand it into police if not (though I think it might be a tourist's phone as network wasn't one I recognised and notifications were in a different language). [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:34 AM PST How likely is fungus and mold to develop on devices? I had an older phone stored inside a cupboard which ended up getting some fungus and mold due to seepage in the wall. Is it okay to use the phone? I understand fungus and mold need something organic so the phone should be all right? [link] [comments]

Apples belief in ‘Accessibility’ is under appreciated Posted: 03 Feb 2019 09:40 PM PST I believe this since young people who have learned to use tech all their life, believe apple makes toys that you cannot mess with. But as I have been tech support for a lot of family members,(40-79 years) I have seen android made them feel absolutely dumb. They felt tech was something super complicated and had to call me to know whether something could work. Plus I had to give them a lot of time. I have switched a lot of my family members to iOS and according to them , they feel it's been much better for them, since home button press takes them out of any issues. Plus doing essential things like messaging, mail, phone call(VOIP) calls, YouTube is much easier. Personally I have benefited from being called much less. So kids ,and tech natives(me) please use android. Don't try to get apple to complicate things too much. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Feb 2019 06:22 PM PST So in October I decided that, even though I'd been an iPhone owner since the iPhone 4, I was going to ditch my iPhone X and try out a Samsung S9 Plus instead. Honestly, it was an okay phone. I didn't hate it. But I didn't love it either. Screen was awesome. I liked some of the various launchers Android makes available. Otherwise, front facing camera on the device was terrible. UI is super laggy compared to iOS. Apps were noticeably not as refined as their iOS counterparts. And losing iMessage was a bigger deal than I expected for sharing photos and videos with friends and family. Well, here it is three months later and I'm on an iPhone XS now. And I'm happy to be back. Really happy. What a difference a quality device and OS make in the total experience. And yes, my wife totally told me "I told you so" on more than one occasion already. I'll never live it down. [SHORT RANT] iPhone Rotation Lock Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:03 AM PST Hey Apple, HOW IS IT THAT AFTER 10 YEARS OF INNOVATION AND COURAGE ROTATION LOCK IS STILL TRASH!!! Listen Mr. Cook, all the only time i want rotation lock is during a video. NEVER WOULD I EVER WISH TO ROTATE MY HOME SCREEN OR SAFARI BROWSING. At least having the option to direct how and when screen orientation locked works would be useful. TL;DR: Why would i want my home screen to rotate and why would i want to watch a youtube video in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Surely im not the only one. Also the volume box that pops up when changing can get bent as well. [link] [comments] |
