Not getting any help from Apple Support, I don't know where to go. Posted: 20 Feb 2019 07:00 PM PST This is going to be long, I will put a TL;DR at the end. **Disclaimer, I am not saying 12 hour work days, or deployed for pitty or sympathy, just trying to get the full context of what is happening out there. ** 3 Days ago, 2/19/2019, my phone completely stopped working. No wifi, no cellular. It had an error that stated, "Cellular update Failed. Your iPhone cannot make and receive calls or access cellular data until it has been updated." After some googling I came up empty handed, so I contacted Apple Chat support, after 20 minutes, he determined that the phone had to be brought in for repair or replacement and gave me some options nearby for repair and stated that it would be covered under the warranty and would not cost me anything. I had to drive over 2 hours roundtrip to get to this repair shop. For context, I work 60 hour weeks, 12 hour shifts, so this was not just a stroll over there... While at the repair shop, which I will not name because I am not trying to put them on blast, I had to argue with the woman for almost 30 minutes because she absolutely refused to repair or replace the phone for free, telling me it would cost something like $400 to repair. I ended up having to request a phone to use to call the Apple Headquarters in Kuwait and give them my Case Number from Apple so they could explain to her why it was covered under warranty. As soon as I said that, suddenly she could help me.... -__- So I head home. Another hour or so later I get an email saying that because I purchased the phone in Japan, they were unable to help and I needed to come back and pick my phone up. **Some context here - I work for the United States military. I travel a lot. I am American, I was stationed in Japan when I purchased the device, and I am currently living in Kuwait.** After driving for over 3 hours this time, I finally got my phone and got back home. So I contacted Apple Chat support again. This time I was told that I would be forwarded to an APO specialist for assistance. First issue, was Find my iPhone was still on. That was an entire to-do because the phone had NO Connectivity. So I couldn't sign in to anything to turn it off, long story. Anyways, I got it figured out thanks to an actually helpful Apple Agent. Back to the APO specialist, Kristen, and after 24+ hours of emails back and forth, she tells me, "You purchased your phone in Japan, so I can't help you" and kicks me back to Apple again. I need help here. I am being pushed around from one customer support to another, no one has any real answers, and I need this device repaired. I use FaceTime to communicate with my wife and 1 year old and having no phone is a huge pain. ***TL;DR - My iPhone broke, customer support is extremely dismissive and kicking me from one support center to another and I am not getting any real help, turning to Reddit as a last resort to get the attention of someone that can help.*** I have never begged for upvotes, but please, please upvote this post for awareness, I need to get someone's attention for assistance here. Go back through my history and downvote everything I have ever posted, I don't care about the points, but please upvote this one. I am at a complete loss as to what to do now. I would put something on Twitter too, but I actually don't have a Twitter. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Feb 2019 10:32 PM PST I keep trying to play music that i've paid for but the screen goes white for an unnecessarily long amount of time and then it asks me to buy apple music. It's getting really annoying at this point because people ask me to play things and sometimes i'm not able to, specifically only in the case when it's available on apple music. This is a huge issue for me especially since i buy stuff on bandcamp that is apparently on apple music. If someone could help, that'd be great. [link] [comments] |
Macbook Air: Screen gets layered over itself Posted: 20 Feb 2019 12:30 PM PST It's really hard to explain, but basically when the screen draws stuff there's an afterimage left for like half a minute. Here's a gif of it. Anyone have any idea what might cause it? [link] [comments] |
2 min video demonstrating macbook not seeing my external microphone. I don't get it. Posted: 20 Feb 2019 04:52 PM PST Macbook Pro from early 2011, running Sierra 10.12.6. Headphones have TRRS connector, just like the iPhone earbuds/mic combo. Gaming headset/mic works in an iPhone, and the iPhone earbuds work in the Macbook. But the gaming headset mic is not registering at all in the Macbook. [link] [comments] |
Unable to transfer music to iTunes from iPhone. Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:45 PM PST I resently got a new phone (iPhone6 to iPhone8), and when I transfered my data from one phone to the other by means of saving a backup on iTunes, my music was not transferred with the rest of my stuff. Is there a way to transfer the music on my old phone to iTunes on my computer so I can transfer it to my new phone. Or better yet, just transfer it from the old phone to the new phone. For some background, my old phone had never been connected to iTunes on a computer. I had always just bought music from the iTunes app. I also had made a new Apple ID for this new phone (as I had been on a shared family one before) and added the old phone to it. [link] [comments] |
Apple two factor (or two step) authentication on Android Posted: 20 Feb 2019 10:27 PM PST I know it sounds extremely unlikely but... in the future I might want to switch to an Android phone. I was asking myself if it would be possible to authenticate using an Android phone. I still love using macos, but will it be a problem if I can only receive security codes on one device? Ethernet interface without ethernet port? Posted: 20 Feb 2019 10:17 PM PST In Network Utility I can see that my computer has an Ethernet interface, and that it is has been sending and receiving packets. It says IP Address: (empty) Link Speed: 100 Mbit/s Link Status: Active Vendor: USB NCM Model: iBridge However my computer does not have an ethernet port, I have a 2018 MBP. I am currently connected to Wi-Fi. What could be happening? I'm worried my computer has been accessed without my consent. [link] [comments] |
How do I use Photo Stream and iCloud Photos? Posted: 20 Feb 2019 10:02 PM PST I feel like this has changed in the past few months. It used to be that there was a My Photo Stream album on each Apple device with it turned on. I used to make edits on my Mac in Photos, and they would sync up with the devices. This was great for using with my family, as I didn't have to move it to a special Family Shared Album. What's the deal now? My Photo Stream is only personal? And, the edits did not sync up with my iPhone that the photo was taken on. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Feb 2019 05:56 PM PST To add to this.. Am I able to somehow regain access to my phone, without a 100mile trip to an apple store? I cannot connect the device to iTunes because its not registered to another device, its my only apple product. The phone has passcode on, and I did not have my icloud turned on when I got the phone. So, is there anyway I am able to gain access without those things? [link] [comments] |
Issue viewing adjustments to images using canva Posted: 20 Feb 2019 09:36 PM PST Posting here for the off chance someone might know what's going on.. If there's a better sub to post in please let me know Basically while editing images in canva, when I upload an image and then try to play around/adjust the brightness, contrast, etc., the preview does not show these changes- the image remains its unaltered version. But once I download the image all of the adjustments are visible I'm using a 2013 MacBook Pro retina if that helps. I'm also using safari as my browser [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Feb 2019 01:24 PM PST Is there an app that blocks spam calls that isn't going to harvest my contacts, or sell my soul to facebook? I tried to research and what I have so far is that: nomorob is a paid service. I prefer free. I also haven't heard too much about this one. It doesn't seem to get mentioned as much. Hiya is apparently owned by facebook. Truecaller harvests contacts and also has some weird feature where it knows if they are on a call or not. Mr. Number is owned by Hiya which is owned by facebook. Any suggestions on what you all use would be awesome. Or even a suggestion on a better sub to ask this question. Thanks so much. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Feb 2019 08:16 PM PST Hi guys! So a fast question...which app do you use to speed up netflix and co ( prime video hulu youtube ecc ) on your iOS device? Is there somewhere such a thing? I use VideoSpeedControl or Supernetflix on macbook with chrome... but i can't find anything for the iPad. Any suggestion ( except keeping watching netflix and such on the mac :D ) ? Posted: 20 Feb 2019 04:30 PM PST I am looking at this USB-C dock from Monoprice. My desire is to leave the dock hooked to two monitors (along with keyboard, mouse, etc) and be able to simply walk up and connect the laptop with USB-C in clamshell mode and use both monitors. Will this work? The tech specs state that it supports dual monitors on machines that support MST (multi-stream transport) and apple docs state that the newer MacBook Pros support this, but the tech specs also make it sound like dual monitor support doesn't work with Macs. Thanks for any help. [link] [comments] |
Image file duplicates galore! Looking for app suggestions. Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:09 AM PST So a friend of mine brought me multiple external hard drives worth of photos and backups to try to sort out. She has the habit of copy/pasting over and over in an effort to not lose her photos. This has created a multiple terabyte nightmare, one that is so bad, she has resorted to buying new macs and hard drives every time she fills them up. There are multiple photo libraries, folders with raw and jpg images and who knows what else. My plan was to go buy a 10TB drive and dump everything on there and look for something that will do a binary compare (or some other intense analysis) of files and libraries. Can the community suggest some Apps that would help me wrangle this hellacious mess? [link] [comments] |
iTunes prompts for Apple account creds EVERY fking time! Posted: 20 Feb 2019 07:58 PM PST I really hope someone has a fix for this. iTunes prompts for my Apple account creds EVERY time I launch it. I enter it, and it takes it. If I don't enter it, it prompts THREE times. I am using the right password. I enter it, it's happy, then next time it asks again. This is a brand new installation of iTunes so I have no idea wtf is up. [link] [comments] |
MB Air 2018 - WiFi Seems Slow/Capped to ~1/3 of Other Devices I HAve Posted: 20 Feb 2019 07:32 PM PST i have a week old MB Air 2018 256 8mb. I am very happy with it except for one thing, the WiFi speed is oddly capped. My ISP rate is 400 down and I use two Google Wifi mesh routers in a team. I get 320-360 on a 802.11ac PC that is sitting on the same desk. I get similar speeds on other devices I own... ...but the Air (which is supposed to be ac as well) scores 60-100, and never more. I have taken samples over multiple days and the results are similar. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior on the new Air? Is there any common tweak or setting that could be toggled? I have thought about maybe forcing 5Ghz or maybe a router channel change? As 80-100 is still perfectly fine for most stuff, I don't want to make a major deal out of it per se, but I do want to make sure there isn't something relatively easy that lets me get the appropriate performance out of it. Thanks for any insight. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Feb 2019 07:31 PM PST Hi all, I was hoping to get some help if at all possible. I have an old iPod touch that I use to track notes for the gym. However today something weird happened, I took it out as I went to the gym and when I got there the apple logo popped up and it was rebooting itself. It would then flash into a white screen and then it would die down and reboot back to the apple logo and it would keep doing it. I'm thinking it was the cold weather that may have zonked it out, it was working fine before I left home. I went ahead and tried to factory reset it by pressing the home and power button at the same time and managed to get into recovery mode. However, when I go ahead and try to restore it to factory settings on my PC (Windows) using iTunes, I get an error message saying my iPod can't be restored because of an unknown error. Could this be the nail in the coffin for my iPod touch? It is very old. My iPod touch is a 4th gen, 8GB white iPod touch. If anyone can try and help, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Google Photos as default photo app on iPhone 8 Posted: 20 Feb 2019 07:05 PM PST Hi I just recently switched from Android (Google Pixel) to iPhone. On my Pixel, I used Google Photos. I wanted to keep all of my photos when I switched from Android to iPhone, so I downloaded Google Photos onto my newly acquired iPhone 8. I was happy to see all of my photos were there, exactly as they were on my Pixel. However, I encountered a problem. Whenever I want to send a photo, the photos available to send are ones that are on the default Photo app. I am not able to send any photos from the Google Photos app. I actually can't interact with them in any other apps. I wanted to change my profile picture on Twitter to a picture that is on my Google Photos, but I couldn't because I could only change it to a picture on the default Photos app. Is there any way to make Google Photos the default photo app on an iPhone? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Mac book air mid 2012 battery problem Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:58 PM PST I recently replace my Battery on my Mac book air, however it still dies within 2 hours of use. Can I use an NVME SSD on my early 2014 Macbook Air 11"? Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:55 PM PST Friend of mine gave me a broken MBA 11" to fix up, and the last thing it needs is an SSD. I have an adapter to m.2, but upon looking into it I'm seeing a ton of conflicting reports of whether an NVME drive will work, or if I'll need an AHCI drive. I know I'll need to run at least High Sierra, but that's not a problem, I'll be using Mojave. But I've seen some people say it doesn't work at all on 2013/2014, some say there's just sleep issues, and some say it works perfectly fine. I'm just a bit lost. [link] [comments] |
iMac runs poorly on original user. New User runs flawlessly. Any suggestions? Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:39 PM PST I have been trouble shooting my 2017 iMac the past few days and have gotten it to work a lot better than it has been performing. Hit a roadblock with internet speeds. It was all just fixed by the ISP and runs perfect under a new user. Internet on main user runs at 150mbps while a new user gets 400mbps+. Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:21 PM PST Hey, I hope I'm in the right place and with the right question. I used to have a Windows PC where all my photos are. I don't really care about my files since I've already backed-up them, but I would like to be able to see and edit my photos from my Mac backing them up from my PC. And I don't know how to do it... I really hope I'm clear with my question, English isn't my first language and apple products are new for me. Thank you ! [link] [comments] |
