Posted: 24 Feb 2019 06:14 PM PST I just purchased the new MacBook Air and just tried to use the old command-option-power button to put it to sleep. Nothing happened so I did some searching. I came upon Apple's keyboard shortcuts page and it shows the myriad of ways to put your computer to sleep with the keyboard. But all those options have an asterisk next to them that state they don't work if you have a Touch ID sensor. It also fails to give me a solution. So is there a way to use my keyboard to put the computer to sleep? If not, is there a way I can make one? [link] [comments]  |

I did the battery calibration, and during battery drainage it lasted just under 5 hours streaming 1080p youtube on chrome at 75% brightness. Is this normal for a brand new battery? | iPad Mini 2 loops in start up and then stuck at Hello Screen Posted: 24 Feb 2019 10:00 PM PST My iPad started restarting automatically yesterday so I did a factory reset and then updated it to the latest iOS through iTunes and then did another factory reset. However, it keeps switching on and off automatically when I start it and then after a long time it reaches the Hello screen saying Press Home to continue in the bottom. When I press the Home button, it gives me a black screen but the volume buttons work on that screen with the Volume HUD being displayed. | MacBook Pro broken after Mojave update Posted: 24 Feb 2019 09:28 PM PST I just updated my 2017 MacBook Pro no touchbar to Mojave. After hours, the progress bar was stuck on 12 minutes remaining and hadn't moved. I finally realized it was frozen and hard reset the computer. When it came back on, the update seemed to have installed. However, it kept freezing and I couldn't access some apps. I finally went into recovery mode and reinstalled MacOS, thinking it was a problem from when it possibly didn't install all the way. This just took it into a cycle of black page with Apple logo and progress bar, then login screen with progress bar, and back and forth. It occasionally let me type in my password and back to progress bar. I once again hard reset and it finally let me back into my desktop. I cannot open system preferences or about my Mac (from any location). Finder sometimes freezes. I can use Safari for about 5 minutes before I get the rainbow wheel that completely freezes the entire system. Can't move the cursor, force quit, literally do anything except hard reset. I have tried disk utility to fix the issues but I just get an error after running it- and my computer is encrypted. I have no idea what to try next. I'm taking my computer to my work IT tomorrow morning, but I have to be on my computer constantly, so I'm trying to find a fix I can do now. I'm so frustrated, I wish I could just go back to High Sierra and undo this update. [link] [comments]  |
| (Help) iPhone 6 battery is draining regardless of whether in use or not. Posted: 24 Feb 2019 05:15 PM PST Hello. This is my first time posting onto this subreddit, though I have read the rules, I hope I don't unintentionally break them and I will try best to provide as much detail as possible. I am having some trouble with my iPhone 6. Earlier this week I have started running into two issues, one of which has been solved at the Genius Bar, though I mention due to the possibility of them being connected. Skip everything between the row of ~ to get back to the main issue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The solve issue is that my phone was not detecting any official iPhone chargers cables, but was happy to use what we thought was a broken 10ft long 3rd party cable. The charging port is/was clean, and everything seemed fine, except it would usually not even detect an apple cable so charging was impossible. After resetting my settings, it seems that this issue has subsided for now at least. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My main issue now is that my iPhone 6 is still burning battery faster than it previously had, and it is impossible to maintain battery while away from a cable. Now with an official apple cable, the battery is charged slightly faster than what is being drained, and but will stagnate at around 70%. The battery is new (replaced around end of November). The people at the Genius Bar were not able to help me figure out why my phone is losing battery after a diagnostics test. Everything seems fine to them. None of their suggested help has worked either (resting and restore from back up, recovery mode, though resetting settings helped my solve the issue of not being able to use apple cables). Some details of my phone include: iPhone 6. iOS: 12.1.4. iTunes says this is the latest. Battery was replaced 3 months ago and it worked like a dream until about a week ago. iPhone remains slightly warm to the touch while NOT in use/charging. Tried recovery mode, deleting and reinstalling apps that possibly caused this error, resetting settings, and restoring to backups. I was trying to reinstall the OS and when i tried to partition a disk to install the OS in it said this: "the volume recovery on disk1s3 couldnt be unmounted because it is in use by process 0 (kernel)" .... i have been trying for hours to see if i can do this with a bootable usb mac OS installer but the macbook didnt even read my usb drive. | USB Problems with External Hard Drive - Macbook 2015 High Sierra Posted: 24 Feb 2019 07:19 PM PST My WD external hard drive 3.0 only works on the right usb (hdmi side) but doesn't work on the left side (thunderbolt side) unless connected through a usb hub. I need to use my usb hub anyway sot's not a huge issue. Still, I'd like to have my external hard drive separately connected to the left port and my usb hub to the right port. I currently own a early 2008 20 in iMac running El Capitan (v. 10.11.6). I ran out of hard drive space a while back so it now has a 3Tb hard drive in it. I want to upgrade/simplify so I am looking at purchasing a used mid 2014 MacBook Pro (MGXC2LL/A). It has a 512 gb hard drive in it which is where my 2-part question comes in. Q1: I don't want to upgrade the hd. I want to store the bulk of my storage needs (pics and music) in an external hard drive connected to my router. My question is, will this work? Can I have a MacBook Pro that, when I download pictures from my phone, will send them directly to the hard drive connected to the router over WiFi? And also allow me to play music from files stored in the same router connected drive? Q2: I am a huge fan of time machine. However, moving from a iMac to a MacBook makes seamless backups a little more challenging. Here is my second question: could I connect a second hard drive to the same router in question 1 and have the MacBook backup over WiFi? Thank you in advance for your time and patience. For example my ping to discord server is normally 20 but when they are on their Mac its 700+ always (I know that it isn't my internet being bad because I am able to stream and maintain 100 ping on discord) but as soon as I close the lid it back to being normal ping. I dont see anything appearance wise wrong with my adapter or charger but once i plug it in, it won't charge. My warrantys expired, and my laptop was purchased from over in China by my dad so I dont have a receipt either or anything. I was wondering if my only options were to drop $100 for an authentic one. My current laptop model is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports). But when I use the GPS for directions (Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc), it doesn't work. By doesn't work I mean I experience the following errors 1) takes a long time to update. So for example it will lag behind where I actually am by a minute or so delay 2) not update the route when I get off route. So for example, if I take the wrong turn, it won't update the directions So basically my phone is unusable as a GPS. I've tried resetting network settings, etc, still nothing works. I took it to the Apple store and they said it wasn't a hardware issue. So I guess my next thing to try is just to restore it like they said? [link] [comments]  |
| Updating OS X Lion to Yosemite? Posted: 24 Feb 2019 01:41 PM PST Hey everyone, sorry if this has been asked before. I've got an iMac operating on OS X Lion 10.7.5. I'd like to update to at least OS X 10.10 Yosemite but I'm having some issues. I tried downloading the update for 10.10.5 but I believe I need 10.10 to start with to run that upgrade. I've also tried downloading 10.11 El Capitan but again I don't have the minimum required OS to upgrade straight to that. My guess is that I have to incrementally update my OS, however I'm having trouble finding older versions of the older OS X that would get me there. Kind of at a loss here. Any suggestions? Thank you! | Posted: 24 Feb 2019 01:33 PM PST About 2 weeks ago after randomly reading a Wikipedia article, I began to notice that Google Chrome would replace 9's and sometimes 6's with hyphens, specifically in dates and years. For example, year of 1994 will be displayed on my screen as "1--4." I just recently travelled to another country for work and took my laptop with me. Upon arrival in this country, I first noticed this and thought maybe it was because I was on the internet in a different country? For reference, I'm from the US and have a 2015 MacBook Pro Retina 15" and when I returned from the US...it's still like this. Is this some sort of malware or did I accidentally trigger a certain setting? Is it specific to Google Chrome or is it a setting in Apple's MacOS Mojave? Here are some screenshots. I feel pretty stupid for not knowing what this is or how to fix it because I consider myself pretty tech savy and it's INCREDIBLY annoying. I even tried printing out a check since I run a business, and the date of 2019 which auto-populates on the checkstock actually got printed out as "201-" therefore this is a serious issue that I need to fix.

Currently the Output Deice looks like this Output Device: Internal Speakers Internal Speakers(S) CintiqProPT this is my monitor CintiqProPT(S) Sound Blaster this is my speaker Sound Blaster(S) This will be more complicated once I plug in my headphone etc. Basically my computer creating two output for each device. <- what i dont want. creating Aggregate Device isnt what i need. A friend's iMac has stopped booting into the OS and makes a clicking noise when it tries to read the HDD. As I feared it seems to be a bad drive, as even when booting into recovery from a USB. Disk Utility doesn't show the hard drive in it's entirety. I asked my friend if he had a time machine set up but apparently it is a backup from a while ago and he says he has sensitive work information in it. I offered to help, but only if I could recover anything without opening the iMac, as I'm inexperienced with them. Is there a way I could recover any files from it without having to open. Like from an os from an external hard drive, network or maybe usb stick, and extracting it from there? It is an iMac 12,1 (A1311) Thanks in advance.
