How do I charge my Macbook Air (2015) with a power bank? Help! Posted: 19 Feb 2019 09:53 PM PST I recently bought this (https://www.amazon.com/RAVPower-Portable-26800mAh-Recharged-Nintendo/dp/B01LRQDAEI) power bank from RAVPower. It's capacity is 26800mAh and it has a 30W maximum output, which is more than enough to charge my Macbook Air (2015). The only issue is I'm not sure how I do so. The regular USB-C cable I have, which looks like this (https://www.amazon.com/Nekteck-Braided-Charging-Resistor-OnePlus/dp/B016CYJCRE) doesn't charge my MacBook, but instead does the exact opposite, charging my power bank by taking power from my MacBook. Hence, is there a specific adapter/cable I need to solve my issue, or is there a way I can reverse the power so I can charge my Macbook from my power bank instead of my power bank from my Macbook? How to stop iTunes from including voice memos from my iPhone in my iTunes library? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 09:08 PM PST Whenever I delete the voice memos from iTunes and re-sync my iPhone, it adds all the voice memos from my phone back into my iTunes library. How do I stop this? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can you transfer text messages from Android to iPhone? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:40 PM PST I guess this is the right subreddit to post this in. I am planning on getting an iPhone XS later this week through T-Mobile. I currently have an LG Stylo 3 through Virgin Mobile. I was wondering if there is anyway I can transfer my text messages that are on my Android to my new iPhone. Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Feb 2019 12:05 PM PST I have a 32GB iPod (idk what generation, it's too faded on the back, but not sure it'll matter) and just recently, maybe a week to two weeks ago it started having connectivity issues with my Bluetooth headsets. I thought it might have been my headphones because I don't understand why it would be my iPod, so I bought a new pair of headphones and it's having the same issue. I thought maybe it might be the rubber cover I have on my iPod that keeps it waterproof and damage resistant but when I took it off it still has the issue. It's weird. I used to be able to walk about 10-15 feet away without any issue and now just having it on the other side of the chair I'm sitting in causes it to start breaking up and even putting it on the other side of me causes issues! It's like it has to have PERFECT sight or line to the headphones for it to work perfectly. Everything else and it'll start cutting in and out. Any help would be great! I've had the iPod for a while but it's weird it would just randomly start! Is rather not have to buy another iPod. [link] [comments] |
Photos from iPhone X all have weird fuzzy quality at 100%. Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:39 PM PST I have an iPhone X. When I zoom in to 100%, many of my photos have this weird pixelated appearance. Looks like high ISO or some kind of software smoothing. https://i.imgur.com/Xmbta8s.jpg I have looked at photos from my old iPhone 6s and they seem sharper and/or less processed. Any ideas if this is just how this camera/software works? I've always used the regular camera app in normal photo mode. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Magic Mouse and Keyboard 2 - Change device names Windows 10? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 09:38 PM PST Scenario; someone at work got the company to pay for a Magic Mouse and Keyboard 2 so they could work from home on their Mac. Fast forward a year or so they left the company and returned the mouse and keyboard. All computers in the company are Windows 10. We can connect the devices but they always display as "Sarah Smith's Mouse" "Sarah Smith's Keyboard". I would like to change the names of the devices to something more generic to be used around the office. How do I manage this? Do I need to use a MAC to change this? Are these devices linked to the persons iTunes? I'm not much of a MAC user myself but have been unable to Google the correct answer. Note: Sarah Smith is not the persons real name. iOS Flagging Contractions as Misspellings? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 09:36 PM PST https://i.imgur.com/q1UobUH.jpg I've been trying to solve this forever. On my iPad Pro 2017 (and notably, not on my iPhone), certain contractions including "doesn't," "wouldn't," and "shouldn't" are flagged as misspellings when typing with the Smart Keyboard. They are not autocorrected, but the red underlining is annoying when I am writing. If I backspace, the red line disappears, but the next time I type the word, it is underlined again. I have reset my keyboard dictionary, as is suggested in the Apple forums, but it didn't (oops, that one is flagged too!) work. My keyboard language is set to English (United States) and I have installed the Apple Dictionary and both British and American Oxford English Dictionaries. Does anyone know what is going on? I expect that this is a simple issue, but I'm reaching my wit's end. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Feb 2019 08:01 PM PST So I bought an MacBook Air a long time ago and just noticed that I had Final Cut Pro on it. Unfortunately when I tried to update it, I didn't have the MAS Receipt, and it wouldn't allow me to run it. I've realized that it came with the computer and so it is not linked to my account and so I don't technically have it...not trying to break any rules or any Apple EULA. I was just wondering if anyone had the same issue and found a solution? [link] [comments] |
Best utility to recover accidentally deleted files? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 07:59 PM PST Best utility to recover accidentally deleted files? Go! A friend accidentally deleted a number of photos from his Photos camera roll. They are not in the recently deleted items folder. He also does not have a Time Machine backup. That will be rectified first thing, but he is hoping I can help him recover the deleted photos. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
How to delete icons on launch pad. Posted: 19 Feb 2019 07:28 PM PST I have a bunch of apps on my launch pad that don't appear in my application folder. So I was wondering how do I get rid of the icons on my launch pad. [link] [comments] |

Opened my macbook pro and there are colored/black stripes on the screen Posted: 19 Feb 2019 04:58 PM PST I have a 2013 15in Macbook Pro Retina. I closed my computer and took it to another room and opened it (it wasn't shut down). When I opened it all these colored & black stripes appeared vertically and horizontally. You can see there's also a weird diagonal/curved one. I shut down twice and it won't go away. I have no idea what happened here...please any help would be appreciated. ETA when I apply pressure to the screen in those areas, the stripes move around. I googled and it said this is a "TAB" error but I have no idea what that means. I recently (September) had the screen replaced on this computer...would that be the issue? [link] [comments] |
Can't enable alarm in AutoWake Apple Watch app; error "No Complication" Posted: 19 Feb 2019 04:48 PM PST I can't enable the alarm in the AutoWake app on my Apple Watch. An error is returned saying "no complication" even though I clearly have the AutoWake complication on my selected watch face. I've tried all the troubleshooting I could think of, even going so far as to reinstall the app on my iPhone, but nothing has solved the problem. [link] [comments] |
How do you change the default email account on 12.1.4? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 10:47 AM PST Before this update I was able to change it from Settings> mail, contacts> Default account. Now they have split Email and Contacts options but when I go to the Mail settings I don't see the option anymore. I've googled this but no luck. [link] [comments] |
Searching for #'s in a Text Document. Posted: 19 Feb 2019 04:32 PM PST TLDR: Can't search for numbers with Command-F, WHY? Hi there, I have a friend who has a list of information in a text style document, the list is for mailboxes. The document is a list of items that are on hand, the numbers beside the list reference which boxes get the line item. Unfortunately, he seems to be unable to search by Numbers (command-F) , only text will search for him. If he types a number into the search bar and hits search, it 'dings' but no results are presented, it appears to just outright reject numbers as a search parameter. Anyone have any insight? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 01:48 AM PST Bear with me because my knowledge on software and hardware is very limited to be generous. I'll try to explain this the best I can. So I have a 2 year old mid-2012 macbook that was running on the latest version of El Capitan. Unfortunately, today I was browsing the internet and got an unresponsive script warning on firefox that froze my computer; chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml:212. I couldn't force quit out of firefox so I shut down my computer and restarted it. When I restarted it, it would just go to a blank white screen. After about 5 minutes of running, an apple logo would pop up and then turn into a crossed out circle indicating there was no valid system folder to start up from. I tried restarting it twice and got nothing but blank white screens, not even an apple logo. Holding Command-R twice for ~10 minutes did nothing. Then I tried pressing alt-command-r which luckily after the third attempt, I was able to go into internet recovery mode. On this screen, I went through and repaired disk (no problems found) and then reinstalled mac os. After an hour, my computer was done updating and started up. I logged back into my account now on Mojave 10.14.3. I'm typing this on the computer now and it seems to be functioning fine and didn't lose any information. Is it likely that I have to worry about this being a reoccurring hardware issue on the computer? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Feb 2019 04:24 PM PST It shows up as "Notes QuickLook Extension (Spotlight)" in activity monitor and is using 800+ mb of RAM and growing. I've searched google and found very little. A few things I've looked at: I only have 2 items in "Macintosh HD/Library/QuickLook/" (iWork.qlgenerator and iBooksAuthor.qlgenerator) I've also checked /System/Library/QuickLook/ and there are a lot of qlgenerator files but none named Notes.qlgenerator My user library did not have a QuickLook folder. I looked at system preferences / extensions but don't see anything there. I'm hoping to at least learn what this is and possibly remove/turn it off if it's going to be using so much memory. Any way to organise iPhone apps on desktop via iTunes like used to be available? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:35 PM PST I know we used to be able to arrange/delete iPhone apps via iTunes but they took it away. Are there any third-party apps or anything that would still allow this functionality? I have a LOT of apps to sort through/arrange into folders and I don't feel like doing it all with my stubby fingers on a tiny screen.... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:33 PM PST After going away on a trip I suddenly got a Cellular update failed alert, and I can't use any carrier services. I also can't access the cellular tab in settings. It's an iPhone 7, and there are no signs of damage to it other than some scratches. I have tried restarting it, resetting network settings and taking my SIM card out and putting it back in again. Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:13 PM PST My issues began around the time I downloaded iOS 11 and my iPad wouldn't even boot! I managed to find a solution, however a few months later it began restarting randomly for no particular reason I updated to iOS 12 and the problem went away for a little bit but then arose again recently. (it happens every few months) I have tried resetting the settings multiple times to no avail and did a clean wipe about 4 months ago when the random restart problem happened for the second time! I don't know if I just got a bad unit or if this is a common issue. Any solutions will be appreciated thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Backlight going out after water damage? Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:11 PM PST Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have a 2015 13" MBP that had some water damage. I assume it is the backlighting going out every so often. It will display a picture like normal, then after anywhere between 2-80 minutes it will start flashing to black then go all black. Shining a light in from the rear shows the picture which makes me believe its a backlight issue. Popping the bottom off doesn't show any blown capacitors or corrosion. It is running the latest version of macOS. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Feb 2019 11:18 AM PST This is the first time it happened. I was playing Civ5 for like 3 hours and all of a sudden, the iMac just stopped running and I was like holy shit! Do I need to replace something? Then I held my breath, turned on the switch again and it started running. I was like super relieved. The iMac was bought new June of 2016 and it's pretty much the base model without any upgrades. It's around 2.5 years old but it does get a lot of mileage so I don't know if I should be looking out for potential problems in the near future or things I need to be aware of when these computers ultimately need to be fixed. My question is, when mac computers do this, is it a bad sign or did the game itself cause something funky? I know Civ5 constantly nags me that it's not optimal anymore for my computer or maybe steam keeps nagging me. I don't really play video games all that much on the iMac so it wouldn't matter if I stopped playing Civ5 or just stopped using steam all together. [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro not letting me sign in Posted: 19 Feb 2019 03:02 PM PST My Macbook did an OS update last night and since the restart, it won't accept my usual password. I've gone into Recovery Mode to perform a reset, but it won't list any users. Any ideas before I bear the pain of going to the Genius Bar? [link] [comments] |
