Today the battery of my Apple TV remote died. The last time I charged it was in July 2018. Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:36 AM PST I use it like more than 2 hours per day so the duration is very impressive. [link] [comments] |

Apple Music Integration Possibly Coming to Google Home Devices Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:22 PM PST |
Posted: 26 Feb 2019 12:56 AM PST So I love my HomePod, and I don't regret spending the money on it, but there are so many small QoL things that Apple could do to make it so much better. Mine is used daily as an alarm. So many of my things deal with that. For example, I can go buy a $20 clock radio from Walgreens, and it has a separate volume control for the alarm. My $350 HomePod? Nope. I have to chose between blasting my ear drums when I play music, or risk the alarm being too quiet that I might not wake up. How about a setting that makes the alarm gradually get louder the longer it's on? My beta test Echo that I gave up for the HomePod had this. Why not HomePod? About once a month, it will tell me that it's set my alarm for 7am, no matter what time I tell it to set an alarm for. Also occasionally, when I ask what time my alarm is set for, it will just start rattling off every alarm I've ever set in my phone and telling me if it's off or on. How about a button in the Home app that lets you send feedback when it misunderstands you? These are just 3 very simple updates that would make the HomePod much more convenient to use. At least for me. Sadly, maybe due to lack of sales, Apple doesn't seem all that interested in the HomePod. [link] [comments] |

TIL you can drag something from the spotlight and multitask that way Posted: 25 Feb 2019 01:42 PM PST So this was new to me. On iPad Pro, if I was multitasking two apps I would usually pull up the dock and swipe up an app into one of the two sides (or onto the middle bar to have three up if that was what I wanted). Well this worked great as long as the app I wanted was in my recently used or one of the ones I'd put in my dock. If it wasn't there, I'd go home or use spotlight, find my app, open it, and then use this method to put the app I wanted back into multitasking. So if I was running apps 1 and 2 and wanted app 3, I'd close everything down, open up app 3 and then multitask back into app 2. This wasn't a huge thing but it was always a little bit of a PITA. Today I learned that from any screen I can hit CMD+Spacebar to pull up spotlight, and then drag that app into either already active app 1 or 2, or in the middle and have it slide over into the third position. For me and my workflow this is huge! (Sorry if this is common and I'm one of the last to figure it out). I also recently learned about the spotlight search tricktoo so I may be a bit behind the curve on some of this power iOS use. Edit: apparently, apple, in their infinite wisdom, won't let us do it without the keyboard even though spotlight is available from a swipe from the top of the screen. Lame. Needs a keyboard. I will try my Bluetooth keyboard later, but it works with my Smart Keyboard. Edit 2: This also works with a bluetooth keyboard fyi. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 06:48 AM PST As someone who values lightness and battery life for travel, bit of computing power but not on the demand of GPU, I would love to see the non-touchbar MBP 13 to be upgraded. Quad core with touch ID would be perfect for what I need right now - my Macbook Air 2018 is manageable but the computing power sometimes doesn't cut it. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:20 PM PST Apple Music's shuffle algorithm has effectively turned my 300+ song playlist into a ~50 song playlist. Has the company acknowledged this issue at all ,and if so, are there actions being taken in order to solve it. I enjoy listening to my music; more so when I can listen to ALL my music 😠[link] [comments] |
Apple should not require 2FA to book a Genius appointment Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:04 AM PST It is the ultimate nightmare scenario. I have broken my phone. The display is non-functional. Boy wouldn't it be great for some support from Apple? Oh wait, I can't book a genius appointment because Apple requires I have my phone to approve my Apple ID login, what a great design! They let you access other iCloud functions like find my iPhone without 2FA, it makes just as much sense to allow Genius bookings, too. [link] [comments] |
Has anyone recently switched from Chrome to Safari? If so, what are your thoughts? Worth the switch? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:49 PM PST I've gotten pretty fed up with chrome lately and it seems to be working pretty slowly and using a lot of power. Has anyone else felt similarly and made the switch? Any extensions you'd recommend? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:19 AM PST I put a post up a while back asking if people thought it was better to get the XS or XS Max. Some chimed in but other suggested getting the XR. After doing some research and such, I picked up a Red XR, and boy I am happy as all hell. The battery is simply ridiculously good. 4 hours of moderate/high use and I'm only at around 70% The 720p display feels a little off, sure but I got over it after a while plus the difference on a phone display between that and 1080p isn't terribly huge. Overall I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks r/apple. [link] [comments] |
For everyone clamoring over the foldable phones - do you see it as more than a novelty? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 05:08 AM PST I was browsing reddit this morning and found a great comment by /u/TheAppleAesthetic that basically questioned the purpose of the phones in general. There have been tons of people saying that this is some crazy innovative product (which conceptually it is) and that Apple is lacking. /u/TheAppleAesthetic questioned - and I agree - have you ever been in a situation where you're wanting a to device with less capability than both a traditional phone and tablet purely for more screen real estate? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:59 AM PST Apple was a more user oriented system but we have really driven ourselves away from it. It shouldn't be up there for configuration either. The system should just give you local news and weather in detail. Siri practically doesn't even exist. I really wanna switch to google just because of how the user interface is now but man it just doesn't look cool enough it's like yea the new Jordan's are more comfortable but I'd rather still have the 3s on [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:39 PM PST As someone who uses and loves Dynamic Type along with a slew of other accessibility features on iOS, it's nice to see when Apple's own products fully support them! I hope more Apple and third party apps get on board as a focus on health features continues to dominate the iOS ecosystem. TestFlight 2.2.0 was released today with Dynamic Type Support Do you enjoy and use any of these accessibility features? [link] [comments] |

For those who require lots of storage space, what's your game plan? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 02:52 PM PST My Mid-2012 non-Retina 15" MacBook Pro is getting a bit long in the tooth. I've had the beast maxed out with RAM, SSD, and replaced the DVD drive with a large mechanical HDD. It does not perform poorly, especially for its age, but the display is lacklustre with washed out colours and a small resolution. Looking into the cost of a newer model, the cost of storage is insane. 1TB is $720 CAD, 2TB is a hilarious $1680, and 4TB alone outweighs the entire cost of a maxed out 15" Pro. What the hell? For my purposes, 1TB encroaches on being insufficient, leaving me with little free space. I do professional photography and other art projects, but I also keep a lot of music and video tutorials onboard. 2TB is perfect since it leaves me lots of room to grow, although it would take me a very long time to fill that. I can't justify $1680 for 2TB of SSD storage. PC options start at exactly half the cost for NVMe PCIe, and another half of that for SATA3 speeds. It feels like I'm being gouged and I simply can't afford a computer at their price point. I'm definitely leaning towards going back to Windows. [link] [comments] |
Anyone know how I can block phone calls for a specific country on the iPhone? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:03 AM PST I'm tired of getting spammed with phone calls from a certain a firm that resides in a country that apparently has an infinite amount of phone numbers to use as spam in case you block one of them. After blocking about 20, I just want it to end. Pls help [link] [comments] |
