TIL ⇧⌘5 is a much improved screenshot tool vs. Command-Shift-4 (Mojave) Posted: 21 Feb 2019 07:37 PM PST Mojave introduced a new screenshot tool using ⇧⌘5 which lets you crop with an overlaid, movable rectangle instead of trying to draw a rectangle around what you want and then having to crop it to "fix" it. You can also video record a portion of the screen with it and change options (such as showing/hiding the mouse pointer). https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361 Bonus TIL: ⇧⌘6 lets you screenshot the touch bar, if you have one. [FEATURE REQUEST] AirPods automatically switch between devices Posted: 22 Feb 2019 01:33 AM PST You never play something on your AirPods and something on your iPad. So I think that all of your audio from all nearby devices should always play on the AirPods. Example: You come Home from walking the dog with only your AirPods and Apple Watch, get your iPhone and see that your friend sent a video. When you play the video it will automatically play on the AirPods without ever switching manually. When you open your AirPods, it will connect with all your nearby devices. On every device that's connected with the AirPods, will this media player appear on the lockscreen & Control Center. When you want to play simultaneously on the AirPods and another device, you can always open the iPhone bubble that you see here on the second photo. This makes the switching between devices with AirPods way faster and more fluid. [link] [comments] |

MacBook Pro (2016+) owners: how do you like it now that you’ve had it for a while? Posted: 21 Feb 2019 03:01 PM PST As an owner of the 2015 MBP, I'm extremely reluctant to give up aspects of this design because of how much I dislike the new ones. I have to use a standard USB port on a daily basis. On more than one occasion my charge cable has been knocked off, which would have been devastating without the MagSafe port. Mostly everything seems okay - the trackpad on the new one is so huge that I would be afraid of accidental input, but maybe their palm rejection is really good. I've heard bad things about the keyboard keys, though. Beyond that, I'd be okay with upgrading. But I'm truly not ready to lose USB A, and the idea of requiring an adapter at all times seems awful. Owners of 2016+ MacBook Pros, what do you like/dislike about your laptop? [link] [comments] |

Apple Music keeps playing the same tunes from my playlist Posted: 21 Feb 2019 07:27 PM PST I have 50 tracks in my playlist and listen to them while commuting to and from work everyday. The whole playlist is around 2h 30m long and my commute is approx. 40-45 min so I listen to about 17-20 tracks when going to and from work. The issue is that iPhone seems to play the "most popular tracks" from my playlist and on the way back it plays exactly the same 17-20 tracks I already heard on the way to work. Thus, everyday I only listen to the same songs, but just in different order as my commute is never long enough to listen through the full playlist. IOS seems to be prioritizing those songs over others. How to set apple tunes to play my songs in a completely random order? Yes I shuffle them! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Feb 2019 05:56 AM PST Perhaps a little underrated, but I really love the power of transfering from an old iPhone to a new iPhone using a (encrypted) iTunes backup. It's such a breeze this easy process. I had to re-enter 3 passwords on my new iPhone, everything else is exactly the same as my old one. I have a feeling that this process is getting faster and better every year. For me, this is one of the reasons I stick with iPhones. I have used several Android devices over the years, but there is no single Android phone with this powerful super easy(!!) backup solution/service. [link] [comments] |
Make Siri Better Again! Where is the machine learning? Posted: 22 Feb 2019 02:05 AM PST Siri was first and the best for a long time; then it was tied with others; now it's fails (IMHO)... Siri just does understand questions well. Much of the time it understand my words correctly then decides to change some of the words to something else that makes no sense, and then interprets them! Does anyone else feel Apple is loosing ground on being AI "smart"? Being less focused on assistant abilities and machine learning? Edit: It's difficult to give an example that isn't local... I deliver pizza's (the machine learning part of this is it knows I want local routes); if I ask for directions to "Genna Drive in (city) X", don't give me directions to "Jenny St in (city) Y" (400 miles away)! Posted: 22 Feb 2019 01:28 AM PST Hi everyone! I would like to ask for your help and advice regarding my 2-month old iPhone XS. I've been experiencing some "heat" issues at the back of my iPhone when using Twitter, YouTube, etc (no graphics-related apps) when on Wi-Fi or 4G connection. I contacted Apple Support and they run diagnostics to my phone and did not find any problem on my phone. The one I talked to advised me to have my phone factory reset on PC because I've done all the tips for it to not heat up and for the battery to not drain faster (turn off location, turn off background app refresh). I want to have a piece of my mind on my new phone, I'm planning to bring it on a service center here in our country to have it checked personally. Hope someone can help me. Thanks a lot!!! Posted: 21 Feb 2019 07:35 AM PST I get a refund only if the shop worker doesn't try to compare the receipt number with my card but for a while, I was getting turned away and being given shady looks by the staff, as though I'm trying to defraud someone. I've even tried explaining that Apple Pay doesn't give the shop my card number but they just don't understand! Edit: I even show shop staff the wallet screen with the matching 4 digits and they still look at me like I'm pulling a scam. It rarely works out. [link] [comments] |
What do you use tags in MacOs for? Posted: 21 Feb 2019 10:12 AM PST I´ve been trying to use the tags function built in Finder to organize my files, which made me wonder how you guys use it? [link] [comments] |
Searching for old WWDC session videos/slides Posted: 21 Feb 2019 02:51 PM PST Hey there, For those who don't recall, I'm the guy building an Apple Archive from the ground up and I'm looking to expand my archive before launching this Spring. If anyone has old WWDC session videos or slide-decks, I'd really appreciate a DM! Also a lot of my videos are compressed either from YouTube or just old encoding methods, so if anyone has some cool rare videos or somewhat high res old videos, shoot them to me too! Thanks [link] [comments] |
