    parsec-fbf ?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2019 12:39 AM PST

    parsec-fbf ?

Does anyone know what parsec-fbf does and why it would like to connect to apple.com?

I can't seem to find useful information via https://www.startpage.com/ or google , or duckduckgo.

(Since Mojave there are more weird daemons trying to connect to apple. For instance "helpd" and "touristd").

Below image is from Little Snitch detecting the connection attempt.

    Thanks!

Do we have a Screentime on Mac?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2019 03:06 AM PST

I have read this post https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/8sjyuv/screentime_on_mac/, and many others. But the tools mentioned there only block apps.

I want a tool that limits the usage time of apps. Say, 2 hours per day.

It would be even better if there is a Leechblock on Mac for apps, so I can, for example, limit the usage of an app during night, or even 15 mins per hour.

I also considered Parent Control or scripts, but they are limited and tricky.

How to enable the new voice of Siri to speech books?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 08:01 PM PST

The option inside accessibility only shows the old voices. I can do it in iOS (and the new voice is natural and clear).
How to do it in macOS Mojave?

When will we get subpixel animations in the UI?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 11:00 PM PST

Something that's been bothering me for a while is how jittery the animations are (especially on retina screens).

For example, take a look at the dock with magnification turned on. The jitters look quite poor when slowly moving from icon to icon.

    Dock: https://streamable.com/soj1k

Another example is the elastic/rubberband scrolling. It has hard 1px (or 2px on retina screens) translations which also looks jittery.

    Default elastic scrolling: https://streamable.com/kaw9d

Using a translate3d() polyfill which has subpixel translation: https://streamable.com/f40l4

I have sent this as feedback to Apple on their website but the chance they actually read or cared about it is probably quite low.

Best safari extension to block ads? (uBlock Origin no longer working properly.)

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 01:16 PM PST

I can't seem to block youtube ads anymore. I was using uBlock Origin (it's my preferred Adblock extension) but it doesn't seem to be blocking youtube ads and some other ads on websites. I've tried ghostly lite as well, it doesn't seem to work either. Using chrome with uBlock Origin works fine, and that's all fine and dandy but I honestly prefer Safari.

    Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Simple Apple Script Code to see long you've been actively using your computer?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 01:30 PM PST

Hey, I was wondering if there was a way to check how long you've been actively using your computer using apple script. Similar to the application Aware, but in Apple Script because I want to extend on those features for my needs. I tried looking at the apps source code and I was having a hard time since I'm not a Swift MacOS developer.

Is the Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2012 Non-Retina good?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 12:51 PM PST

I had suffered from GPU failures on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro, but I am not willing to sacrifice all ports to get the new one let alone pay quite an amount of money for any of the new models Apple makes.

Would this be a good choice for a University student like myself? (who just wants convenience, types papers, browses the internet, etc.)

I have read multiple reviews online about this specific model but I just wanted to hear from people who may/may not have experience with this laptop.

Also, i've looked at this laptop because I want to use my set of 16 GB RAM dims as well as my two SSDs.

Thanks so much for all your help :)

Freezes on Mojave when trying to log out or lock screen

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 07:41 AM PST

As title says. This just started happening on 2017 13" MBP non-TB. A hard restart fixes it but it comes back again. I ran First Aid against my macOS drive but no errors were found. Clicking Apple>Lock Screen freezes only Safari. Sleep is disabled as well as my screen saver when lid is closed. Lock screen does not appear immediately as I have set it.

    Trackpad getting locked up

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 06:06 AM PST

Having an issue lately with the new generation MacBook Pro's that have the haptic touch enabled trackpad. Seems like some software issue decides to lock the trackpad when disconnecting it from a Thunderbolt 3 dock. You unplug it and open the laptop lid to continue usage in "laptop mode". Usually the trackpad will work for a couple of seconds still just so you could focus the password area in lockscreen... you enter the password and suddenly it stops working.

The issue will go away usually when I leave the laptop closed and unplugged for a couple of hours... but sometimes I would really love to use it immediately after unplugging...

It looks very much like a software bug so posting it in here in hopes maybe someone has some neat trick to overcome this issue? Maybe some awesome command to paste to CLI?

EDIT: As additional info the laptop is 13" Pro model from 2017 and it's running the latest Mojave.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2019 03:41 AM PST

    Hi all,

is there a way to change the whole native Mail App to "Light mode" if Dark Mode is enabled in Mojave?

I only found articles like this one but not for the whole app unfortunately.

    Thanks

Please I desperately need any new or old version of Microsoft office. Can anyone share with me the setup or any link to it. Don't know how possible that is, I'm a newbie in the Mac world so pardon me if I sound dumb
