I love this screen, but damn is it a slap in the face

This is how I think the lock screen should look when there is no music or notifications.

Just a happy post... Got my loved iPhone 8 stolen & then got it back!

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 03:05 AM PST

Guys I'm really lucky, I was walking my dog around noon...everything going normal, then we were crossing an intersection and the cars were waiting for traffic light to change, suddenly I hear a woman screaming and honking her motorcycle's horn very loud, I turn back and she screamed at me that a woman just 3-5 meters further than me stole my phone, I looked for her and she handed it back to me, the woman said something like she picked the phone from the street and thought it belonged to another woman strangely standing close to her... which was impossible because I had it on my parka's (outer) pocket that also was closed...it just couldn't happen, she took it out... well, I didn't even say anything, I couldn't believe my luck, and as I am a small (f) person (I'm pretty sure the woman could have "backup" besides her companion) I took it and simply walked away.

I wish I had seen a police officer or something but nope...

Ok, the end of the happy story, have a happy and lucky day yourselves! 😄

Why is iMessage search so trash?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:22 PM PST

    title.

I was trying to look back through my imessages today for when I'd told my girlfriend I got my eyes checked, cos I need a check up six months from then, and I had to search through a heap of different variations of the word optometrist, glasses etc. just to find the message from that actual day because we were talking about her getting her eyes checked today and that's what reminded me, and that's all that would show up, was the messages from today

the point is when compared to something like facebook messengers search it's complete garbage. it shows exactly one example of the word used per thread. why can't I search within individual threads for words that show up multiple times.

I ended up finding it cos I told her I'd chosen tortoiseshell frames but I shouldn't have to do these sorts of mental gymnastics to find what I want to find.

iPhone 6s keeps asking me to sign into iCloud with correct password

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 07:42 AM PST

I'm hoping someone has had this issue before and can give some insight.

I have 2 phones, one work and one personal. My work phone around 7:30 am, decided to tell me I needed to verify my iCloud password and sign back in. I put in every password I could think of (and considering the two phones used to have the same iCloud passwords, this was annoying & didn't make any sense as to why the old password wasn't working). I remembered having this issue before, so I went ahead and reset the iCloud password on that phone. I was able to log on via Safari and then input the updated password on my phone, but the dialog box for a six digit verification code kept popping up then.

Since I didn't have 2 step authentication enabled, I kept closing out of the boxes that constantly popping up and logged back in online, inputting the verification codes. They continued to pop up, along with asking for my iCloud password again and again. Frustrated, I restarted my phone, reconnected to wifi and was able to get in, but they kept popping up.

At this time, I decided to reset my password online again, thinking I needed to somehow sync them now that 2 step verification was enabled. Dialog boxes continued to come up and now the new password wouldn't even work on the appleID webpage.

Cue to me restarting the phone for a second time & now it's stuck on the authentication page. I took the SIM card out and put it in an old iPhone, after trying to reset the password via Forgot IPhone in my personal phone and I'm now waiting on a text message to come through "within 24 hours" for me to get access to my phone again. Since it's a work phone, I don't have the proof of purchase to go to the Apple Store and get access to my phone that way. I'm attempting to contact the right person in my company to get the proof of purchase, but no clue if it'll be found, I've had the phone since November 2016.

Is there any other way to authenticate the phone? It seems ridiculous that I can't reset the password via email (which is linked). Any hope of getting the text I'm waiting on to reset/had this happened to anyone else? Or any clue as to why the phone decided to sign me out of iCloud and refuse to accept the old/changed passwords?

If I lose everything on the phone, I'll be annoyed but not super upset, I've thankfully saved all super important photos a few months ago, but obviously I'd prefer full access to my phone again. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Facebook Messenger finally, FINALLY supports the XS Max and XR

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:30 PM PST

Just got update 200.0 (Christ almighty with the version numbers) and sure enough things don't look blurry and huge on my XR anymore! It's a late Christmas miracle! At least for those of us who still have to use it to keep in touch with others.

EDIT: to those saying "delete Facebook it's garbage", I wish I could. I tried quitting and trying to keep in contact with people outside of it. Unfortunately, the world just went on without me. So while I'd love to quit and pull my friends off to something better, the reality is that they won't go. That, sadly, is my reality.

Switching to a new Phone in 2019

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 03:41 AM PST

Hello! To Introduce my phone: I've got an iPhone 6s, with 16GB, a cracked line on the screen and my Battery is at 75%, which means my phone can only handle 3 hours of using it. I've got it since release month and yeah. It's unusable I'd say.

I'm just waiting for Apple to do 5G & USB-C (and Touch ID in Display) in one of their phones, but every day I think more about getting a new phone this year. 2020 was my goal to get a new phone, but I think I'm not able to reach that without destroying this phone completely. Everything feels bad and slow. Not talking about the memory capacity of 16 GB. (I'll buy 126-256GB for my new phone for sure) It's a challenge to use the phone in the european Winter with -15 degrees celsius (5 F) and the european summer of 40 degrees celsius (105 F). It's really hard and I can't even be on phone in Public Transport etc, because of the battery.

My phone will be in use until 2024/25 after that, so for a longer Period of time. I'm not that a switcher guy.

Now I wanted to ask you redditors if I should wait for this years iPhone 2019 or the iPhone of 2020, but with a powerbank the whole time.

Just got an iPhone SE and am missing texts

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:21 AM PST

Lifelong Android user, I bought an iPhone SE to have as a distractions-free phone. Thought it was going well, but this morning I clearly missed text messages from two different people. Can anyone share why this would be happening or what setting I need to change? I've never had a phone not receive texts before, and that is surprising considering I thought Apple devices are supposed to just "work". I'm on T-Mobile with iMessage and FaceTime turned off, and just want to be using SMS. Thanks in advance, if anyone can help out.

    Thoughts !

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:07 AM PST

Read a tweet today asking why more US Apple tech reporters haven't mentioned that Face ID doesn't work for a lot of customers in the Far East as lots of people wear face masks. I know that the Chinese economy is underperforming at the moment but it could also be a contributory factor as to why sales are badly down in that region. Taking this into account do you think we will see an underscreen fingerprint on this years iPhone ? Samsung will use one on S10 .

Separating different iPhones of same model in metadata (or other methods)

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 10:00 AM PST

I have photos taken from iPhones that amount to several, several thousand from over the last decade... one of the reasons for this is because I would have my own iPhones taking photographs, but I also helped backup the photos from my family's iPhones as well as they aren't too tech savvy and I know how important backups are, so I wanted to do it for them.

I had a dead external that blessedly was repaired and now I have so re-sort everything. I'm doing a trial of ACDSee and also trying Adobe Bridge — but the metadata is only sorting it by iPhone models, not particular authors or serials. So during the times we had the same model of iPhone, it seems nearly impossible to distinguish with absolute certainty which photos belong to whom, because there's no way I can see that breaks down model into specific device characteristics to clarify the separate phones used, with the same actual model.

I would be so grateful for any assistance — this is already such a daunting project (I've got about 100k photos in my library anyway — thankfully not all are from iPhones or same models). Thank you so much!

    iphone Camera Accessories?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:51 AM PST

I vaguely remember a Casey Neistat (I think it was him?) video where he showed some sort of lens or device that attached to an iphone, making it zoom in or be more clear or something.

If anyone knows what I may be thinking of, please let me know! Thanks.

Itunes Backup - Possible to back up the whole phone?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:10 AM PST

So I'd like to back up my phone, and about 65 GB of it are being used. But when I back up with Itunes, the backup ends up being 1.7 GB.

Is there a way to pick and choose what will be backed up?

Anyone know if it's possible to modify the calendar app formatting?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:10 AM PST

Total frustration with my iPhone calendar app has brought me hear searching for some wizardry.

Basically I am having a lot of trouble getting a quick view of my upcoming appointments ect.

I have two problems, 1- the calendar app starts at midnight and I have to scroll through the entire day to see if I have an appointment in the evening, 2- I accidentally downloaded a countdown calendar which added an event on every day of my calendar, so there are little dots every day of the year when I look at the app and hence can't quickly visualize the events I have entered for any given day.

Is there a way to see the daily or weekly topo within one screen page?

Generally help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
