My idea for a better iPad Pro laptop style keyboard case. (I bought the pencil for note taking, not because I can draw)

Does anyone use an iPad with an Android phone?

How do you sync between devices? Files, links, images etc? And is there a way to mirror videos from phone to ipad?

    My iPad setup

I wanted to share my iPad setup that I use for all my computer needs. It's the 2018 iPad (128GB with cellular), Apple Pencil and F180 keyboard case from iEGrow.

I use it mainly for music production and document processing for now, and soon for school work when I enroll. Upgraded from an iPad Air 2 solely for Apple Pencil support since the BF sale price was too good to resist but the processor upgrade is also very welcomed. The air gap between the screen is pretty obvious but not too bothersome, and I instantly noticed the iPad speaker was a bit of a downgrade - softer and 'lesser' quality.

The Apple Pencil is the real deal, there is simply nothing like it. Nothing I can fault with it except the ridiculous way to charge it and if I'm really nitpicking, a space gray color would've been nice. As for the keyboard, it's exactly what I wanted! A laptop style and while looking at the zagg/brydge I came across this. I love that it has the 360 swivel so I practically never have to take it out the case and can work at any angle I need. Keyboard is backlit, 3 brightness settings with 7 different colors; it emulates a laptop feel minus a trackpad. Typing isn't the most comfortable but it's ok, I got used to it fast.

Overall I'm pleased with the upgrade although it doesn't feel too much of one cause there isn't any design chances. I do envy the iPad Pro but I can't justify the hefty price tag and the bending flaw didn't help. Anyways the non pro does everything I need impeccably. The air 2 lasted me a good 4 years so I expect this one would too, and perhaps for the next upgrade I'll go for the pro.

Is there a way to use my iPad like a drawing tablet?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 07:24 AM PST

I'm not an artist but I have/had a few drawing tablets. What you would do is connect them to your computer/monitor and whatever you drew on the tablet would show up on the screen. You didn't really have to look at the tablet and it was more of an advanced stylus/mouse combo.

Can I do that with my iPad and desktop monitor? I don't really want to draw but I'd like to open something like excel, sheets, google dock or Goodnotes and annotate using the pencil and my desktop. Can I write on my iPad while looking at my desktop and not necessarily the iPad itself. I really hope I'm making sense but is there any way to take my iPad screen, put it on my larger desktop machine, and still use the iPads pencil features? I would prefer a wireless method or an app but will definitely use some kind of hardware if needed.

How many of you guys use 10 finger typing when typing with the iPads on-screen keyboard?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 09:36 AM PST

I'm very curious. I can't even though I'm able to use the ten-finger typing method on keyboards, but this may be due to my lack of practice.

Do you use a screen protector for your iPad?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 07:13 AM PST

Do you use a screen protector for your iPad? I just got the 11" Pro with Smart Folio and I'm not sure whether I'll get one. The Apple Store where I bought it still doesn't sell screen protectors for the new iPad Pros.

Is this Dock compatible with the 2018 iPad Pro(s)?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 06:14 AM PST

Hi. I currently own a 10'5 2017 iPad Pro and I was willing to buy this beautiful Logitech dock: https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/base-ipad-pro-stand

However I was thinking about upgrading my iPad to a 11'' by the end of the year and so I was wondering if this is actually compatible with the newer models. I know there's a compatibility board down in the Logitech website page but I wanted to ask you guys anyways if somebody had it/and if it worked, because perhaps the page it's just not updated and besides I find it weird that such a nice dock doesn't have a newer model counterpart.

Let me know if you know! Thanks in advance

PS· if anybody has another good looking dock that is suitable for both models don't hesitate to share. Thanks again

    Apple Pencil 2 cases?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 07:02 AM PST

Just bought a 2018 11" iPad Pro. Interested in getting an Apple Pencil 2, but as far as I can tell, Apple hasn't made a case for it yet? I heard Pencil 2 is shorter than 1, so the existing Pencil cases will be a bit loose

If you’re looking for just a keyboard for your iPad and not a whole case, consider the Logitech K780.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:01 PM PST

I've had the K780 in my drawer for a while, and the purchase of the new 12.9" iPad was the perfect excuse to pull it out and start using it.

    https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/k780-multi-device-wireless-keyboard

The K780 is a great keyboard that has a slot above the keyboard to slide the iPad in, and will even let you pair it to 3 Bluetooth devices and switch on the fly between them. So, you could pair it with your desktop/laptop, iPad and iPhone and switch between them with a key press.

Right now they're going for $58 new on Amazon and $49 refurbished on Amazon

Replacing Adobe desktop suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc.) with iPad Alternatives?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 09:57 PM PST

I tend to work on web development projects every now and then, as well as design projects every now and then. However, there is the thing that there are times that I don't really use Photoshop and Illustrator etc. much despite being my go-tos for anything graphic related. Hence, subscription goes to waste. Adding to the fact that I either use Linux most of the time for work, although I do work on my Macbook as well.

I have an iPad Mini 4, and may be considering getting the new iPad (2018) with Apple Pencil if ever I go to Japan (is cheaper there than where I am). Although I'm sticking with my iPad Mini, where just last month I got a really great stylus for cheap. I honestly didn't know that it is actually possible to draw ok with the iPad sans Apple Pencil, and just last night as I was looking into the design apps, I realized that it may actually be possible to offload the design suite to it.

So I'm dabbling with Vectornator right now, but am considering getting Graphic if it is better. I'm currently looking at the apps' guide books. And then considering replacing Paint Tool Sai/Medibang/Photoshop with Procreate for drawing. And then the other Photoshop usages with other image editing apps that I'm still looking into. I'm not sure if Adobe Indesign can be replaced though. And I'm not even considering video editing on the iPad, as I don't think it's that feasible or practical? But I can't be sure. Adobe XD is also something that I really use when web dev projects come, not sure what to replace this with yet though.

What do you guys think? Is it possible?

A problem I'm seeing is transferring assets in between desktop and the iPad. Also fonts handling. Not sure if there's an FTP or wifi file transferring solution for this though. I even just tend to use the WiFi file transferring feature of Foxit Reader, and then transferring the files from there to the apps that could actually open them.

    Paper like screen protector

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 08:14 AM PST

I am looking for a screen protector for my iPad Pro 11 that feels like writing on paper with Apple Pencil. The protectors on Amazon seems has some issues and complaints. I found this website today (https://paperlike.com) it seems very promising. Has anybody used it? Is there any issue with Face ID and degrading clarity?

    Using the iPad for teaching

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:33 PM PST

    Hello r/ipad!

I'm a filmmaking teacher, and recently purchased an iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil and love the combination!

My question is: I'm aware that I can purchase a connector to go from the lightning port to HDMI and share my screen through a tv screen, etc. I'm wondering though if I can use the Pencil and have those markings show up live as I use it. Theoretically it would seem to work, but before I make the purchase, I thought I'd ask if anyone has done anything similar.

    Thanks so much!

    Keyboard/case recommendations for 2018 iPad?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:44 PM PST

(sorry, i've tried searching but the majority of results i've seen are for ipad pros.)

i just got my ipad + apple pencil a couple days ago and so far am loving it! the semester only just started so i don't have a lot going on yet, but it's going to start ramping up soon. i was wondering if anyone has keyboard and/or case recommendations for the 2018 (9.7 inch) ipad?

if it matters, i'm obviously a college student. i have a desktop computer that will be used for the bulk of any paper-writing, or typing in general, but for the few hours i have in-between, i'd love a keyboard to get some quick writing done, and also if i go to visit family, i can just bring my ipad+keyboard with me! and i'm a very uncoordinated person so a case is definitely needed to provide some protection from the inevitable falls it's going to take.

i don't need a keyboard/case combo honestly; i'm ok with removing a case to use a keyboard if it means a sturdy, safe case lol. especially since i won't be like walking around while using a keyboard lol. tysm in advance! :)

Any iPad Pro apps that take advantage of an external display?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:54 PM PST

Recently got a dongle that has an hdmi port, and while I know some apps like video editors show the program footage on the external display I could not find a definitive list of apps that don't just mirror the display.
