Smithsonian Channel and Apple TV Posted: 06 Jan 2019 11:27 PM PST Does anyone know of a way to enter your TV provider into the Smithsonian app on Apple TV? Im able to log into the website but not the app. Really trying to enjoy this content without having to pay twice for the channel/content. Any help would be much appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2019 12:02 PM PST Hi all, Quick question and apologies if this has already been asked (I tried searching the sub but couldn't find anything). Can you password protect an Apple TV? I just got one but it sits in the living room where my roommates can access it. One will just use my accounts without really asking me so when I log onto netflix I have a huge random set of suggestions that I'm not interested in. Can I do anything to prevent someone from using the Apple TV without a password? Thanks! EDIT: I've already looked through the 'restrictions' and it doesn't appear to have this feature. An app like Hulu but for Canadians? Posted: 06 Jan 2019 03:07 PM PST Just bought my parents an Apple TV so they can cancel their cable subscription because it's expensive for little content. However I've been signing them up for networks on Apple TV all day and it will soon cost just as much. We live in Canada so Hulu isn't an option and they are too old to be dealing with a VPN. Is there anything like Hulu for Canada or maybe the few best apps with the most content? They want CNN, sports, movies, Murdoch mysteries and stuff like judge Judy. (They're old give them a break on their taste). [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2019 04:09 PM PST Like stated in the title, I want to upgrade from the Apple TV 3 and can't decide which version to buy. Is the better chip a bin advantage? [link] [comments]
Use google home mini to control Apple TV? Posted: 06 Jan 2019 04:01 PM PST Is it possible to use just a google home mini to control an Apple TV? I have been playing around and connect them via Bluetooth, but am missing something if it can actually work. [link] [comments]
Spectrum & Individual Channel Apps Posted: 06 Jan 2019 03:34 PM PST I have Spectrum TV/Internet & a 3rd gen AppleTV. I've never had any problems with streaming shows from individual TV apps (FXNow, Cooking Channel, etc), and in fact just did so on Friday afternoon with no problem. However, today the apps all say that the content is not included with my Charter/Spectrum subscription and won't play anything. I can play things through the Spectrum App, but I want to use the individual apps because they have more shows than Spectrum offers on demand. Has anyone encountered this? Is it something new because of the new Spectrum App, or are other people's apps working? [link] [comments]
Why might my mother get a headache from watching Spectrum TV streamed on Apple TV? Posted: 06 Jan 2019 06:45 PM PST I have a very odd question: can anyone suggest any reason my mother gets a headache soon after starting to watch Spectrum TV streamed on an Apple TV? We hoped to replace a cable box with the Apple TV after Spectrum released the app a few days ago, but it looks like that's not going to be an option, given this odd problem. The unit is an Apple TV 4 (the one before the 4K version). It is connected to a plasma TV whose resolution I don't know. Content coming from a cable box looks fine and can be watched without headaches. I don't know whether this problem happens with iTunes or other video content as well. One other oddity I should mention is the 4K experiment. Last year, I bought a cheap-ish 4K LED TV on sale. I had to return it because, much like the question here, the TV gave my mother a headache. She is unable to explain what it is about the video that is so wrong, and no one else I've asked sees anything off about it at all. That no one else sees the problem is true of the short-lived 4K TV and the Spectrum content I'm asking about here. My hope is that someone here will have an idea of what Spectrum's Apple TV app does that might cause this. Should we adjust something? Might it be that our TV can't properly support the format for some reason? Are there settings we should look at changing? Again, content from a cable box works just fine on this TV, it's only the stream from Spectrum over Apple TV that causes the problem. I know this is a weird question, and might have any number of factors. Given that it only happens to one person, and only on a 4K TV or, now, our regular TV with one streaming source, I'm hoping to be able to narrow down the cause. I will appreciate any suggestions anyone has. Thanks. [link] [comments]
On vacation, apple tv says update direct tv now app Posted: 06 Jan 2019 02:20 PM PST Hey all, this is driving me crazy. Been on vacation for a week (work vacation), staying at a friend's house with an 80" Samsung curve and Apple TV. This afternoon, service stopped and the screen requested a request screen says update your direct TV app. Then an endless loop of update/open app ensues. Can anyone help? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jan 2019 02:13 PM PST Hi all. Not used the Netflix app on the ATV until tonight. But my god it was awful! Was watching Bird Box and it seemed to be continually dropping quality and I had some tiny video pauses every few mins. It was 4K at some points but not often. Seemed worse after I rebooted the ATV. Was it just a bad night (either Netflix end or my internet) or is it always that bad? Also, I got Dolby Atmos but I thought you only got Atmos through iTunes and not 3rd party apps? Not that I'm complaining about that part! [link] [comments]
Troubleshooting for no picture with LG B7 Posted: 06 Jan 2019 09:38 AM PST I recently purchased an Apple TV box almost exclusively for Dolby Atmos use on Netflix. I had been using my LG 4K BluRay player previously, which can output Dolby Vision, but not Dolby Atmos. Anyway, I've been running into some issues. I have the Apple TV box plugged into my LG SJ9 soundbar and then to my tv. However, I have had some major issues. Sometimes (but not often), everything will work perfect. Video is great, audio is great, and zero problems. However, most of the time, the tv will show the menu screen for about 5 seconds and then it turns into a grey screen or shows "no signal". The first thing I made sure of was that all the HDMI cables are 18 Gbps, which they are. Last night, I also tried many combinations of cables and it worked for about 45 minutes using a cable I paid $10 for about 7-8 years ago and definitely isn't 18 Gbps. The 18 Gbps cables I have are not the Belkin cables I've seen recommended in many places. I have tried three different brands of 18 Gbps cables along with the standard cables. If I run the cable directly from the Apple tv box to the tv, it works fine with video, but then I'd need to get sound via ARC and not get Dolby Atmos, which is the reason I got this in the first place. I should also state that I have tried to change the settings to 4k HDR instead of Dolby Vision during some of the times when I actually have the menu showing up on the tv, but when I try to change it, it will alternate between black screen/no signal for 30 seconds and then revert back to Dolby Vision. If you've stuck with me this far and have any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I have already changes the TruMotion to 0 de-judder and 0 de-blur, but that didn't do anything. Thanks for your help. [link] [comments]

Problem refreshing Infuse on aTV with synology NAS Posted: 06 Jan 2019 06:37 AM PST Recently started experiencing a problem where infuse will not refresh unless I manually restart the NAS. It will be stuck on "fetching content" until I restart, then it updates right away. I'm thinking it must be the NAS settings? It's getting annoying. [link] [comments]
