Some thoughts on the new iPad Pro 11 Inch Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:20 AM PST So I bought a 10.5 inch iPad Pro 64GB last December as a Christmas gift to myself. When the new 2018 iPad Pro came out, I mulled over it for a bit, and decided to buy one and use it for a few weeks before selling my 10.5 inch, to make sure I liked it. Boy am I glad I did that, because I returned the 2018 iPad Pro within two weeks and resumed using my 10.5 inch and I am confident I made the right choice. When I bought it a year ago, I firmly believed that the 2017, 10.5 inch iPad Pro was the single best piece of technology apple has ever made, and a year later, having used the newest iteration of iPad Pro, I still believe that. Here are my thoughts: -Design: The iPad Pro 10.5 is the perfect dimensions. By squishing the side bezels to tiny little strips and reducing the forehead and chin of the iPad Pro, apple was able to keep the home button and Touch ID that many of us love without making the device look archaic. I am tired of hearing YouTubers say "all iPads before the 11 inch look ancient". The 10.5 was hailed as an object of glorious beauty when it came out literally last year - are we so quick to change our minds? The 10.5 is sleek, the chamfered curved edges are comfortable to hold and look sleek and luxurious. It is thin and light, the bezels are remarkably small without sacrificing features, the shape is ergonomic and svelte, and the camera is small and stylish. By contrast, I found the 11 inch to feel, well, chunky. It feels like a tool, not a piece of art. It feels sharp on the edges, and annoying to hold. Even though it is technically thinner than the 10.5, it feels thicker. The camera bump is massive (and why?? It has a WORSE camera than the 10.5 inch!) -Bezels and headphone jack. Alright this one is contentious but I do not find that removing the home button has helped the 11 inch iPad Pro any. As a computer-replacement, Face ID is kind of annoying since it is often on my desk or lying on my bed. I like hitting the home button to turn it on, when I have greasy fingers or don't want to touch the screen. Touch ID is the most practical way to sign in. And the headphone jack?? What kind of computer doesn't have a standard 3.5MM jack? If I can't plug it into my computer speakers it ain't a computer. -Accessories. This one is a toss up. I am conflicted about the new folio keyboard - on the one hand, it is more stable on the lap than the old Smart Keyboard, but on the downside it clips on to the whole back, making it harder to remove. I like my Smart Keyboard because of how it snaps on and off my iPad 10.5 inch in like half a second. As for Apple Pencil, no contest, the old one is ridiculous and the new one is way better. The look, lack of buttons, and charging systems for the old pencil are all super dumb and annoying. -Performance. Yeah I get that the iPad 2018 is technically faster. But a Maserati is technically faster than a Honda Civic, but we don't all need Maseratis do we? Trying to keep up with the absolute fastest tech is a hobby that will cost one thousands and thousands of dollars a year. The simple fact is there's something new every year, and it is always technically faster, but that doesn't make previous models obsolete or even ineffective. With its 4GB of Ram and A10X fusion (which lets not forget, just 6 months ago was being touted as an absolute monster and better than most MBP models), the 10.5 inch is not only fast enough, but still blistering fast, and will continue to be that way for at least another year or two. Concluding thoughts: I like the 2018 iPad Pro, its fine, but its a first iteration of something new, and its gonna take apple some time (and at least another generation) to get it right. Meanwhile, the 10.5 inch is, in my opinion, the single most perfectly engineered, overpowered, well designed, beautiful piece of tech apple has ever constructed. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to see a list of all previously purchased/downloaded ‘iPad only’ apps. Posted: 29 Dec 2018 10:35 AM PST I found the list of all previously purchased/downloaded apps, but all the iPhone apps are mixed in. It's especially annoying when there's no way to tell the difference between an iPad app and iPhone app that have the same icon and name. I've just got a new iPad and want to go back and revisit past purchases and apps that I deleted because my previous iPad had such little storage [link] [comments]
Just purchased 11-inch 2018 iPad Pro, seeking advice on keyboard and case options Posted: 29 Dec 2018 10:10 AM PST Hey all, I just purchased the $799 2018 11-inch iPad Pro. I love it! While I will mostly be using it for illustration purposes, it would be real nice to use it as a writing tool, since my old 15-inch mid 2012 MacBook Pro is quite heavy. I've been considering a couple options for keyboards, and I have a few questions I was hoping folks could help me answer.
Thanks everyone! [link] [comments]
How should I go about selling my iPad? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 11:21 AM PST I bought my iPad Air 32gb WiFi in 2014. It's in near perfect condition, never been dropped or anything. Has a tempered glass screen protector on it with no cracks, and a cover (not case, attached to the side and covers the screen, wakes screen up when you open the cover). The battery isn't the best anymore. It's slow to charge and seems to run out fairly quickly. I need to do a software update and maybe that will help a little, but I think the battery probably is just due for replacement.
It's worth noting that I would obviously sell with the screen protector and cover, but I do not have the cord or charging block that originally came with it. I use my phone charger to charge it, so it would be selling without the charger. [link] [comments]
Where are all the Smart Connector accessories? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:31 PM PST Since the first iteration of an iPad with a Smart Connector port there has been what, four devices that use it? Why are manufacturers not using it? [link] [comments]
iPad Pro Power Adapter Fast Charging Posted: 29 Dec 2018 10:54 AM PST Hi Guys, Just bought the 2018 11" iPad Pro. It's been a dream to run and having it integrated with the Ecosystem of my iPhone, MacBook and all my other Apple products is just as impressive. I was just wondering, if I purchased a USB-C to Lighting connector and paired it with the 18W USB-C Power Adapter could I achieve fast charging on my iPhone X? Unsure if 18W makes the cut off or not. Many thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Dec 2018 11:08 AM PST I personally do not like matte screen protectors and like the look of glass and was wondering if anyone who had the same opinion still put on a paperlike screen protector on. Did you like the switch or did you go back to just the glass? I really want to try paperlike but I'm afraid I won't like the matte look. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Which apple pencil for IPad 6 (2018)? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 08:17 AM PST Does the first generation work with the iPad 6? I only find informations about the iPad pro and that it's only working with the 2. Generation. But what about the iPad 6? Do I need to buy the new pen or does the old one work too? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:37 PM PST Based on all the reports of iPads bending, do you think I would be safe buying one. I am interested in the 12.9 inch iPad Pro Wifi only. I am just hesitant because of the whole bend gate issue. I am planning on picking one up in January. [link] [comments]
How to stop autoplay in Safari on iPad Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:33 AM PST Work gives me an iPad and pays for cellular data. They have been yelling at me for using too much data. For some reason, safari has been using around 60 gigs per period. I have a considerable amount of downtime at work, but only look at Yahoo, the pages linked off of Yahoo and a blog for a sports team. I have no idea how I could be using so much data. That seems like someone who is streaming constantly. There have to be videos playing automatically that I don't notice. Does anyone know how to stop autoplay? I have googled it and nothing comes up for safari on an iPad only laptop. Or is there something else going on that is using all this data? As we head into 2019, how is your iPad 2017 (5th gen) holding up? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 09:20 PM PST I'm a college student getting my first tablet ever and was looking into the refurbished 2017 iPad. I have no interest in pencil support, and will only be using it for streaming (Netflix, Twitch, Youtube), web browsing, and Facebook. No games or anything super intensive. Based on this, I don't think I would benefit much from the 2018 version for $50 more, but I am worried about lag and the processor. Anyone's 2017 iPads feeling sluggish or is everything still running smoothly? How many years have your iPads (any model) usually lasted? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Dec 2018 11:14 PM PST For Christmas, my family upgraded my old iPad 2 to a new iPad 6th gen 9.7 inch. Absolutely love the thing, but I'm considering returning the Smart Cover I bought and finding an alternative. The iPad 2 cover was perfect. The four panels folded into that perfect triangular prism that provided remarkable stability in both vertical and horizontal orientations. Now the new one isn't so stable. Honestly it's downright squishy. Additionally, do to the uneven panel sizes, I can no longer fold it in half and around the back of the iPad when I use it. Options are the thick and awkward triple fold or trying to get the magnet to hold it flat on the back. Neither option is really ideal. I know I'm a few years late to this design change, but am I missing something? Seems like sucks a massive step back from the old design. Are there any third party options that might suit my preferences? [link] [comments]

Minecraft or other building apps? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 04:52 PM PST So I was thinking about getting minecraft for my ipad (12.9 inch) but before I spend $7 I wanted to know if anyone here personally likes it. I've seen my little cousin play on his switch so that's what got me interested in the game in the first place. im 17y/o if my age matters. I do enjoy sims to give you an idea of the games i like but I prefer that on desktop. I have 3 consoles (ps4,xboxone,switch) but my mom gave me an iTunes gift card so i want to know if the iPad app is worth it and if anyone recommends it before i buy it on console. update: bought it [link] [comments]
Can the 2018 iPad Pro replace a computer for my needs? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 02:55 PM PST Hello! I joined the Apple clan and got an iPhone XR, Apple Watch and an iPad 9.7 2018. I was planning on buying a i3 Mac Mini as a desktop replacement (sold my desktop to join the apple cult). My question is, for my needs, can the iPad Pro 2018 be a desktop replacement for me? What I do; Schoolwork, almost entirely in Microsoft Office Word and Excel. I don't use any special programs and don't edit any type of video or audio. Watch a lot of movies, sometimes on an ultra wide monitor. Check and reply to emails. Browse a few websites like Reddit, etc. Discord effectively. Those are most of my use cases. Does anyone know how to forward delete? iPP 11” w/ smart folio Posted: 28 Dec 2018 10:46 PM PST Can't for the life of me figure it out and it drives me bananas, I read elsewhere that a combo of 'forward arrow' (right?) and delete will do it, but that doesn't work. Cheers all [link] [comments]
2018 iPad Pro 12.9" - Not feeling it, going to return. Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:18 AM PST I was going to sell my 10.5" and pencil and go all in on this new thing (plus I wanted a bigger display), but honestly my good old 10.5" is just better in almost every way.
Now... are you screaming "get the 11"" at your screen, or should I just stay with the 10.5"? [link] [comments]
The iPad Pro 11" standby battery life. Posted: 28 Dec 2018 02:31 PM PST I was away for the last week and conducted a small experiment with my brand new iPad Pro 11", and my 4 year old iPad Air 2 to see how the standby life was on both devices (I'd noticed that the Pro was dropping quite substantially overnight and wanted to investigate). The Air 2 was fully charged on Wednesday (19th) and left alone, and the Pro was fully charged on Saturday morning (22nd) and left alone. Neither device was connected to wifi since then. As of now (late Friday evening), both devices are at 63% charge, so the Pro is running down its battery at a faster rate than the old Air 2 (and the Pencil is not attached to the Pro). Not a big deal, but I feel with iOS 12 something has happened to substantially to cut down the standby life - I remember leaving my iPad 3 for months, and it still having battery life, back in the day. Next step will be to do a factory reset on my Air 2 and see if that improves the standby, and start adding apps back on to see if that makes a big difference. So I guess this is a long winded way of asking if anyone else has noticed the battery slowly draining away in standby with recent iOSes? [link] [comments] |
