Let’s give Adobe Sketch some love, 10.5 iPad Pro

Just won an iPad 6th Gen in a raffle and it's my first iOS device. How do I make the most out of it?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 10:46 AM PST

Hello r/ipad. Like the title stated, i just won a new iPad and it's my first iOS device. I've exclusively used Android devices in the past, with the exception of a work iPhone. What are some essential apps i should get, besides basic things like Youtube or Netflix? Any must-have games? Are there any tips or tricks you have to improve the experience?

iPad color and “Bendgate 2: Electric Boogaloo”

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 10:50 AM PST

Does anyone think that the color process (silver vs processed space gray) is causing any weakness in the metal frame? Most of the bend pictures I've seen are showing the space gray iPad. I know they are made from the same grade aluminum, but does the additional process of adding the color increase the chance of impurities in the casing. I know anodizing chemically alters the material. Any other opinions?

Introduce 11 yo aspiring artist daughter to Apple Pencil and associated apps?

Introduce 11 yo aspiring artist daughter to Apple Pencil and associated apps?

I have a spare 9.7" iPad (Latest Model) and I'm considering giving it to the aspiring artist in our family along with an Apple Pencil and getting her started in digital media. She has shown a great interest in art, drawing, using colored pencils, along with a multitude of Copic pens to keep her busy most days and recently cleaned up at our last local fair with 6 - 1st place ribbons and one 2nd place ribbon in her age group across multiple categories. I feel I would be doing her a disservice by not introducing her to digital drawing/painting as she continues to progress.

For the digital artists out there, what are your thoughts and do you have any recommendations on apps to get her started?

I've already downloaded Sketches, Sketchbook, and Tayusi Sketches to play around with different products, but it seems like Procreate is also a popular, go to app to use. I much appreciate any and all advice.

Here's an example of some of her work. The flower was done in a class she took, so she had a lot of guidance finishing it. The other two are just her playing around. She kind of has a thing for dragons. . .

iPad Mini 4 On Sale But...

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 11:05 AM PST

Still cannot bring myself to buy it. I want one to compliment my 12.9 iPad Pro and 8 Plus however the $379.99 (CAD) sale price ($529 normally) still feels like too much to pay for a device with tech as old as it is. Even with how portable it is.

Still thinking about it, but am right now 60 no, 40 yes. It's the perfect size and would be awesome for the coffee shop, lounging in the chair etc but in my mind, even when on sale, still priced too high. I know a new Mini 5 is most likely coming in the first half of 2019 however it's price is going to be in $700-750 CAD range, even higher based on higher storage (it will see a price increase like every other product) and I wouldn't spend that on one for what my general uses would be.

Think I'm going to simply use my 12.9 and 8 Plus knowing it's all I "need".

    Popsocket on iPad Pro

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 05:01 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I've searched high and low and cannot find any kind of thread or discussion on the subject.

Has anyone used a popsocket on their iPad? How does it feel? Positioning etc.

I have an iPad Pro 9.7" and have been loading it up with e-books and graphic novels. Whilst the iPad is quite comfortable without a case, I was wondering if a popsocket would drastically help with comfort while reading for long periods of time.

Any opinions would be great before I go out and waste £10 on a bit plastic haha

    Thank you in advance :)

Best app for magazines in PDF format?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 08:04 AM PST

I currently read magazines in PDF format via the native Books app. Is there a better app to read magazines in PDF form? When using Books, they are just horizontal sliding pages, it would be nice to have a page-turn effect (just as like the Readly app). Does anyone know such app?

    2018 11 inch bad sound?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 12:21 PM PST

Just got my new ipad. Anytime I play anything over 70% volume wise - the sound distorts almost like the bass is vibrating the ipad itself. And Im hearing that vibration - not the quality sound im expecting.

Anyone with similar experience? Do I just have a bum unit or are everyones new Ipads "vibrating" in this way when any bass plays?

    Better productive workflow on iPad?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 11:53 AM PST

Hey r/iPad! So I have an iPad 2018 and I've been using it for a few months and it's just not been working out. I'm trying to sell it now but I'm thinking I should give it one last chance before I say goodbye.

Basically, it's my main device for school. I have an apple pencil but I type a lot. All my notes in class are typed and I have a Bluetooth keyboard for the iPad. I go over my notes again but I handwrite because I read my notes from the iPad and like having binders. My problem is that I don't feel productive enough and there are a number of things bugging me with not having a mouse. Microsoft word is a pain to use at times because I can never go back to a specific word or letter easily. I can only ever have one instance open and referencing is hellish. Mobile sites are a pain too. Split screen is sometimes too small. But I'm willing to give it another chance if there's anything I can do to make my experience better.

The first thing I wanted to do was get a proper keyboard case like the Logitech slim folio case, I think that might make typing easier rather than using a separate case and keyboard. I also think deleting my entertainment apps will keep me focused.

I also do a lot of video and photo work and keeping that in check is difficult too. Photos are a bit of a pain and I like to have a copy of my before edit and after edit photos which I have to back up to drive. Video is another story and I was thinking of using Lumafusion for small bits of work, my current laptop is old and dying but it can handle bigger projects just enough until I go off to uni in September and get a new laptop. Basically I just need to get through the next 8/9 months using the iPad as best as I can, otherwise I'll just let it go now.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you!!

    Pen problems while charging?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 09:12 AM PST

Hi everyone, I've had iPads since they first launched, but I just got my first ever iPad Pro (2018, 13" model) and I think this one will finally be used for more than watching Netflix on planes, only to be left to die on some shelf afterward.

Anyway, back to my issue. I got it primarily for taking notes and ditching my paper notebooks, but I've noticed a pretty serious issue - when it's charging, the capacitive screen (or the pen, or both) lose contact, and the pen stutters leaving gaps in lines. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate the issue. As soon as I unplug the charging cable, the problem completely disappears. I googled a bit, and there have been a few similar documented issues, some of which were rectified by turning off the "zoom" function in Accessibility, but I don't have it turned on, so I guess it's static electricity getting in the way of capacitive touchscreen magic?

Has anyone experienced the same issue?

P.S. screenshot is taken in Notability, but it's the same in the Notes app, so it's not app related. Also, both the pen and the iPad are brand new, so it's not due to an old tip either.

See the gaps circled in red. Above line is while charging, whereas the line below is with the charging cable unplugged.
