    Shut down or let it sleep?

    I'm new to macOS. Should I be shutting down regularly or should I simply close the lid and let it sleep? For reference, I'm using the 2018 MBA.

    Random quick black screen in bootcamp

    I have a 2017 MacBook Pro which I hook up to a 4K external display using a USB c to display cable. All works well in macOS. In windows 10 bootcamp I get these random 2 second dark screens about every 30min. Anyone know how to fix this?

    macbook pro 15 inch, which processor, memory and graphic should I opt for?

    So, I'm looking to upgrade my late 2012 pro 13 inch to the newest model in 15 inch. however, i want to know if the upgrade in processor, memory, graphic and storage necessary?

    I plan to use this computer for the next 5 years. I mostly do a lot of editing and post production as I download video footage from sd cards and I extensively do photography.

    MacBook Pro 2011 - Turns bright on automatically, wont boot

    Hi,

    I have a problem with my MacBook Pro (late 2011).

    I forgot to turn off it and it runned out of battery.

    I've just come back from a travel and I've plugged into the charger some hours ago.

    Now when I turn it on, the brightness go down automatically and the computer turns it off.

    Any idea how to solve it ?

    Second Internal HD Questions

    I recently added an new 1TB SSD to my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro by replacing the Optical Drive.

    Now, my issue is, what next? I've considered a few options but they all come with concerns of mine.

    1. Move some of my storage on to the new drive. My issue here is that 500gb of my 750gb on the original drive is "other" and I've got no clue how to en masse move that over... or even truly what any of that is.
    2. Back the system up on to an external, span the two internal hard drives in to one, and reinstall from the external back up. Here I'm afraid of drive instability and maybe unforeseen issue that I don't even ken.
    3. Back the system up on to an external and migrate it to the bigger newer SSD drive, wiping the old drive. This seems like... not the worst idea. I don't know what to store on the other drive though. That's not a deal breaker. More of an existential problem, as I've never had two internal HDs.

    WD Elements HD not connecting to 2014-era MacBook Air - help!

    What's the best notebook for Macs?

    I'm looking for a notebook for studying.

    looking for something that has:

    1. 3 layers to organize. Like: notebook>sections>pages (like OneNote has)
    2. Alphabetical sorting of the pages
    3. Page search field
    4. Syncing between devices
    5. Insert images

    How common is MacBook Pro keyboard issue?

    Looking to get a used 2016 MacBook Pro 13 inch, probably from amazon. I cannot afford a brand new 2018 mac with the newer generation keyboard. But I'm worried that a 2016 keyboard will break. How common is the issue? Is EVERY single mac affected by this? Or is everyone on Reddit just extra dramatic because like 3% of users had the problem?

    Best OS X for 2012 MBP 13” i5 SSD 8GB RAM

    What's the latest OS X I can run on such a machine? This is purely experimental/secondary machine since I'm a PC user of 15 years. I refurbish MacBooks as a hobby so I thought I'd fix one up for personal use to try out the OS . Also what are some good productivity software/apps on OS X for someone in grad school?

    Alternatives to my 2012 macbook pro 15"?

    So I've had this macbook pro 15" for a couple of years now. And dont get me wrong it is working great. It still has power to to some movie-editing work when I do it and I can play at least a few not to demanding games on it.

    But right now I use it mostly for daily browsing the web and for school when writing down lectures and reading pdfs.

    Since the laptop is kind of heavy, it becomes kind of a struggle to carry with you. Especially when u need to bring the charger cause the laptop battery lasts for about 3 hours of web browsing (maybe my battery is old?).

    So I'm thinking of maybe replacing it with something more suitable for easy web browsing, with longer battery life and less weight. Any advice? And then I'll maybe build a PC for gaming to have at home.

    How is my iPhone 7 able to play 4K HEVC movie through VLC but my 2015 Macbook Pro 13' can't?

    Connect to Shared Folder on Local Network

    I just got my first Mac computer. The new Retina MacBook Air. I am really enjoying using it. I'm coming from Linux so I feel mostly right at home. I attempted to set up the Mac's Shared folder, by following the instructions on Apples's website. I went into the System Prefs, and turned on sharing for ~/Public. When I get on my Ubuntu desktop, on the same network, I can see the MacBook under the network tab in my Ubuntu file manager. When I click to open it, it asks for a user and password. I put in my MacBook user name and password, but it does not work. It just does nothing.

    I also tried connecting to it as an SMB share from my Pixel 3 XL, inside solid explorer. It gives an authentication error there. I am putting in my user name and password for the Mac. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?
