Just upgraded from an SE to the XS Posted: 04 Oct 2018 01:43 AM PDT I decided it was time to upgrade as Apple do not seem to be coming out with an SE2 (at least this year anyway). I love my SE due to its handy pocket size (there is still a market for small screen phones Apple!) and the fact it can still keep up with IOS12 and is still a solid phone with no lag. The only thing that ever stopped me upgrading to the 8 or X was the phone size (I know). However I decided to take the plunge and although sometimes I hold the XS with both hands (yes my hands are that small) it still feels comfortable (obviously not like the SE). But the screen has completely blown me away with how open it is now that it's edge to edge. I feel like there is so much to explore with this phone and I have only discovered 1% of its capability. I will say I am glad I made the decision to upgrade to the XS (the XS Max would be way too big and I always think what is the point of having such large phones) although I have kept hold of my SE lol - Anybody else upgraded from an SE? I don’t like the new battery features Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:54 AM PDT I want to see how long the battery has lasted on a single charge. You can't do this anymore. On a xs max, the battery lasts me easily 2 full days but I can only see the last 24 hours usage. Sure it's nice to see what's eating your battery, but it won't let you see total usage per charge. Any way around this? [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Oct 2018 06:05 AM PDT I had to get one quick so I got the Spigen Thin Fit. Pros: It is a thin, not bulky and has decent grip. On the inside there is a recessed area to place a magnet plate for mag mounts. The case over all is solid Cons: the only real con for me is when on the mag mount it shimmies down on hard bumps but it's not a deal breaker. If your hands are sweaty or you get water on the case, it can become slick. On the top and bottom the stainless ring is exposed so I wonder how it'll hold up to scratches over time. I would recommend this case to the minimalist but to the person on job sites or industrial areas I'd go with something with all around protection. This is a good weekend case and for those not exposed to phone damaging elements. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to tell when a photo is using “true black” for AMOLED screens? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:12 AM PDT I love the idea of using more photos with 100% black for my iPhone XS wallpapers. I've read that AMOLED essentially "turns off" these pixels, meaning your phone is using slightly less power. Two questions:

Upgraded from a iPhone 8 to a XS and.......................WOW Posted: 03 Oct 2018 02:37 PM PDT All I can say is wow. I was going to wait until next year because I'm trying to be frugal, but my birthday was last week and I didn't get myself anything. My wife caught me looking at the new XS online and said "just get it, you love your gadgets and will get your moneys worth as much as you're going to use it" Well I upgraded to a XS and went from a series 2 AW to a series 3 on Monday and it's been great! I can see differences in everything!! From the quality of the materials to how fast and fluid everything is!! Just wanted to share! [link] [comments]

Running list of iPhone Xs Tips & Tricks... Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:01 AM PDT Decided to start a running list for this subreddit for all new & existing owners to hopefully clean up this thread. Mods please sticky. I have previously posted this in the /r/iPhoneX subreddit and was able to help a handful of people. This is in efforts to do the same for those who upgraded recently. * Swipe down from the upper right "ear" of status bar to invoke Control Center (there is a line on the lockscreen below the battery, cellular signal and Wifi icons of some versions of iOS 11 to indicate the relocation of the control center) * Swipe down from the notch or upper left "ear" of the status bar to invoke Notification Center * Double click the side button (formally known as the sleep/wake button) to invoke Wallet or authorize purchases when prompted * Instead of waiting for the key to visually unlock before swiping up at the lock screen, just swipe up and the phone will unlock itself. It's much faster that way. credit: /u/kuntum * Screenshot: Volume up button + side button (formally sleep/wake button), tapping and holding on the thumbnail activates the share sheet and swiping left will instantly save that screenshot * Volume up (release), then volume down (release), then holding side button give you "Slide to power down". (Continue holding side button until Apple logo appears for force restart) * Hold either volume button + power button to invoke 'slide to power off', Medical ID (if applicable) and Emergency SOS options. Credit: /u/Sniked * Settings, general, accessibility to enable Reachability. Swiping down on the home indicator will enable this. Swipe up or tap in blank area to cancel. You may also invoke Notification Center and Control Center easier this way * Swipe left or right on the home indicator anywhere except the lockscreen to switch from app-to-app * Some people find that swiping up and then right (in an arc) invokes multitasking faster. Takes some getting use to but it is a decent tip. Swiping up with a pause on your screen then releasing also invokes multitasking. * To force kill apps in multitasking simply swipe up on that particular app. Tap and hold no longer required (recommended to only do this if an app isn't acting as it should however your preference) * Force 3D touching on the flashlight or camera icons on the lockscreen activates these features, swiping up on the home indicator takes you back to the home screen from the quick camera * Raise to wake your screen and so does single tapping on your screen * Settings → Camera → Record video allows you to take advantage of different recording formats. (4K at 60 fps is the sharpest however the most heavy in size) * Settings → Camera → Format allows you to take advantage of the new HEIF/HEVC format of your photos * keep True Tone enabled as well as auto brightness and night shift to activate at sunrise/sunset * Enter your passcode everytime FaceID "fails". It registers the failed attempt. * Settings → Control Center → Customize Controls allows you to add more controls to the Control Center such as Screen Recording * When changing the brightness of the flashlight via 3D Touch in the control center, the device remembers that setting and will reflect that setting for the lock screen flashlight. Credit to: /u/TangoHotel04 * Turn off Attention Awareness: To unlock your iPhone X with your eyes closed or without having to stare at it directly, go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode and slide the toggle Require Attention for Face ID to the OFF position. Pro tip: this will also increase your Face ID success rate. * Control which apps use Face ID: Go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Other Apps to see the list of apps installed on your iPhone X which have asked for permission to use Face ID, then enable or disable individual apps. * Show battery percentage: Due to the notch, there's no room to permanently display the battery percentage indicator in the status bar of your iPhone X. However, you can get a numerical readout of the remaining battery power when you connect the phone to power, enter Control Center or ask Siri how much battery you have remaining. * [All 3D touch features on the iPhone X](https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/5p783m/all_3d_force_touch_features_on_iphone/) Battery Life Tips * Darker wallpapers on lockscreen and homescreen can preserve some battery * Even with auto-brightness enabled it is best to adjust your brightness accordingly in the control center * Smart invert can be found in Settings → General → Accessibility for a pseudo Dark Mode * A combination of Apple's [USB-C to Lightning Cable](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0X2AM/A/usb-c-to-lightning-cable-1-m?fnode=144730b2de3fd27c97ad52df5ad846c25013089bc9d8e616bf146daedd0affe142e945dfa7f9a117ffc88f528472866639bcac1acbf6c02a795ab6a79f8636ba0056ffc0d307524a9c40179d30bd0ffb36414c89d4cfb6c347b1d0b0e2f54cbc) and Apple's [29W](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MJ262LL/A/29w-usb%E2%80%91c-power-adapter), [61W](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MNF72LL/A/61w-usb-c-power-adapter) or [87W](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MNF82LL/A/87w-usb-c-power-adapter) USB-C charger enables fast charging * Pro tip: save at least $74 and use your [iPad charger](http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/10/10/74-to-get-iphone-fast-charging-is-a-waste-of-money-keep-using-your-ipad-chargers/) instead. * [Here is a great list of Qi Wireless Chargers for the iPhone under $30](http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/11/17/best-wireless-chargers-under-30/) * [Here is a great list of Qi Wireless Chargers from iKEA](http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/wireless_charging/) *courtesy of /u/HotKoolaidRS* * **YOU CANNOT USE A COMBINATION OF A WIRELESS CHARGER AND USB CHARGER TO CHARGE FASTER** [link] [comments]
Procedure for Switching Over to New Phone Posted: 04 Oct 2018 09:58 AM PDT This sub has been extremely helpful to me this week in choosing a new phone and I now have my new iphone in my possession that I ordered from apple, and not from AT&T (which is my carrier). I'm not tech savvy at all and I now need guidance on the process for switching over my phone. My pictures are already backed up because I use Flickr. What I am most concerned about are my contacts. I do have a cloud but I have no idea what is on it and it's probably been forever since I put anything on it. Is it safe to assume that if I successfully backup all my contacts on the cloud, I will simply be able to just retrieve them all later on my new phone? Can the contacts backup be done off my phone or do I need to do it through itunes? Apart from that, what do I do next? I know I have to move the sim card from my old phone to my new phone... But do I need to do something on the AT&T website first in identifying and moving over to my new phone? Do I have to do all this stuff before plugging the new phone into my computer? This is where it confuses me... I apologize if these are dumb questions. [link] [comments]

Could someone explain how Messages in iCloud handles SMS/MMS? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:52 AM PDT I have an iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Messages in iCloud is turned on for all of them. I had Text Message Forwarding to the Mac and iPad set up on the iPhone. However, I experienced this strange phenomenon where an SMS conversation forwarded from the iPhone to the iPad and Mac would be split into two threads: one displaying my sent messages and one displaying the recipient's replies. Using Messages in iCloud, deleting the original SMS thread on the iPhone would only delete one of the split threads on the iPad and Mac. So I turned off Text Message Forwarding to both the Mac and iPad. However, even with Text Message Forwarding turned off, the iPad and Mac still receive SMS—some of them, not all of them. I take it that Messages in iCloud syncs SMS to other devices even when Text Message Forwarding is off. Is that correct? Is it also correct that I would not be able to respond to those synced SMS messages on the iPad and Mac unless Text Message Forwarding is set up on the iPhone? If someone could test this, that'd be cool. I don't have access to an Android device. [link] [comments]
How will dual sim work in Europe? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:07 AM PDT I currently have the X, and a 6+, because I have two numbers one UK and one Spanish that I have for business calls. I really want to move to one new iPhone and I've tried looking into diverting the numbers in the past but every solution I've found has significant drawbacks like not being able to transfer my number to an IP service, or significant cost of call forwarding and losing txt and WhatsApp. People contact me via phone, txt and WhatsApp on both numbers and I reply. Will Dual sim work with two different international numbers from two providers? Will txt and WhatsApp work? Will I have an option to select which number I dial out from each time? Will I be able to set a default to use XYZ number for contact ABC etc? TIA [link] [comments]
